Rangers destroyed by SFA

503

Huge result from the SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal tonight, absolutely enormous, perhaps the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history.  Rangers have been banned from signing players over 18-years-old, for a period of 12 months and fined £160k.

For months Scottish football has lived under some huge moral questions; would the combined forces of TV contracts, the Bank of Scotland and the formidable Rangers lobby combine to subvert the meritocratic spirit of sport and see rules written to see Rangers kept afloat.

The SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal made these questions moot.  In the event that Rangers fail to agree a CVA with creditors and emerge as a Newco, and IF that Newco is allowed to inherit the SPL share given up by Rangers, the Newco will be unable to sign any players of 18 years or older.

Although the SPL and SFA are able to transfer Rangers league share to a Newco, player employment contracts are with the current company, so players would not be contracted to any new company.  An SPL Newco would need to compete with 16 and 17-year-olds.

Conversely, there is nothing to stop a new football club, Rangers United, for example, sharing Firhill and applying to the Scottish Football League, from signing players of any age.  A new football club like this would inherit no financial or football punishment from Rangers FC.  Anyone aspiring to fill the gap left by Rangers would do well to navigate their plans in this direction.

In fact, scrub that first sentence, this is the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history, no perhaps about it.

    (a) there wont be a rangers next year

    (b) our hero will still hold the keys to asbestosville so they cant even use it for one of their historic church parades….unless they hire it of course

Great to hear that, thanks. Good Luck to Kevin in his new important job.

  3. Just heard Graham Spiers on BBC Radio Scotland news saying that if Craig Whyte values his life and the quality of his life he should never set foot in Glasgow or Govan again.

I am surprised that some on here claim Spiers is some sort of top journalist when he spouts this sort of Sun pish.

Surely a good journalist would be cutting through the keech and pointing out the facts about Murray instead of his scapegoat?

I’ve seen a suggestion that he is an Airdrie fan, which would make a lot of sense.

On RTC the other day it was said.that the entire squad that won the league in 2005 were on EBTs.

I looked back at that squad and there was Marvin. It struck me that given his religious background that he maybe the one to confess to this.

We all knew you wouldn’t do walking away, Declan. Great to see you are still around. I was just cogitating on the deliberations of the omnipotent and august body which is the SFA, and was reflecting that this decision exudes equanimity, supports interpersonal values of integrity and elucidates a future for Scottish football which will be liberational in terms of malevolant influence and sullied competition.

    What do you think, Declan?

  7. What really gets my bloood boiling was AWE NAWS comment last night that the SFA fined Celtic £100,000 for tapping up Tommy Burns all those years ago ,that was an enormous sum back then in comparison to what has been dished out to Craigy boy the,Farry/Walker axis must have reallly hated us

I would say there are a few worried agents out there. If they let their clients sign for a club breaking the law they may get struck off. This tax case could open a can of worms that affects hundreds of people.

Well done to the young Hoops last night for their Cup success, I look forward to seeing some of them in the big team in the next few seasons.

It was a pity that a very young Q of S side could not contribute more to the 8-goal thriller, but they did well to reach the final.

  13. WHY?

That is the question the bares are asking this morning.

Why is the SFA punishing them and not helping them as God decreed.

Never mind they had hidden contracts and dodged tax for years to fund their trophy wins.

Never mind they gave Davis, Whittaker, McGregor, etc HUGE pay increases and 5 year contracts and then dodged Tax and National Insurance to pay it.

WHY is the SFA not doing everything it can for ‘The People’.

    Bloody disgrace so it is…

The penalties were for actions this year. The financial hits are maximums. The SPL will take a pop probably after HMRC. I think the SPL are looking further back with the option to take points off or void past results.

No chance. Support Celtic and have the green and white colours of the club on display. Craig Whyte never played for Celtic and does not deserve our interest when the club is playing a match.

The under 19’s will get some reception. Lets concentrate on Celtic on Sunday.

I am sorry to labor this but have a look at the following names:

    Bailey Sarwa aged 12

    Leighton Cook aged 4

    Jack Morton aged 4

    Adam Bird aged 8

    Fae Spearman aged 4

    Robyn Higgins aged 9

    Emily Hubbel aged 4

    Braden Hoffen aged 8

    Niamh Curry aged 5

    Vanessa Riddle aged 10

All of these kids suffer from Neuroblastoma.

In Bailey Sarwa’s case the dreaded disease came back after 7– yes SEVEN– years.

This is a living nightnmare for families especially in the realisation that if the disease comes back there is just no protocol for treating the disease in this country, and so you get bozo’s like me boring everyone to death with it and asking for people’s hard earned cash when that money could be doing something else.!

This is a national disgrace. Treatments are available which would avoid all this fundraising and which would give these kids and their parents some surety that there is a life saving treatment without having to raise phenominal sums of money to save an innocents life.

Everyone knows that cancer of any kind is aggravated by stress and distress. The cost to the NHS in ancillary treatments for family and friends must amount to fair sum.

So please sign the petition below and bring as much pressure as possible to bear on Government who seem to be oblivious to the fact that the treatment needs licensed here in the UK– or even Europe which is much closer than Philadelphia.

Please Raise awareness of Neuroblastoma by Government funded high profile national campaign – Sign the Petition http://www.gopetition.com/petition/42787.html

In march of this year, 18 month old Sophie Atay lost her battle with Neuroblastoma and sadly died. Not every story has a happy ending but it is down to us to try and do something so that there is never thy need to print a list like that above on CQN again!

God forbid that Oscar’s treatment does not deal with his condition successfully. If not then we will all be out running 10k’s, going to bake sales, selling jerseys and whatever else for Oscar.

Let’s not wait till that is necessary. Please sign the petition and remember Niamh– and all the others.

  18. All this news is a bit concerning, Im honestly worried that non thems supporters will be able to take much more of this, the strain on the laughter muscles will eventually take its toll, perhaps D&P and the SFA should take advice from NHS Scotland and restrict the news releases or updates to twice daily.

  19. Regarding the Celtic fine for tapping up Tommy Burns … Does anyone know how much Zombie FC were fined for tapping up the Scotland manager?

  22. Rangers have confirmed that they have suspended Kyle Lafferty for two weeks after the forward failed to report for duty at the weekend.

The 24-year-old did not make himself available for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Northern Ireland star has been dogged by a hernia problem but has been used as a substitute in recent weeks.

Along with the administration-hit club’s other top earners, Lafferty agreed a 75% wage cut last month.

In return for agreeing the temporary salary drop, Ibrox deals were renegotiated, allowing players to leave for reduced transfer fees.

Lafferty moved to Ibrox from Burnley for £3.25m in June 2008 and has one year remaining on his contract.

I’ve said for the past year that Spiers has lost any integrity that he ever had. He is an admitted RFC supporter and has simply reverted to type. Does anyone remember his rant on Radio Clyde “Rangers are a huge Scottish institution. I simply don’t believe that they can be allowed to die. The Scottish Government will not allow this to happen. I firmly believe that the Government will step in and save this massive institution.”

and (in reponse to a Tim who wanted RFC stripped of their tainted titles and trophies)

“That may well happen but I have no stomach for it.”

Well Graham, where is the Scottish Government now. Will they still step in and save your beloved Teddies?
