Resurrection of defensive bedrock, work done in your name

980

The bedrock Celtic built their record-breaking league win on last was the defence; we went months without conceding, serious chances for opponents were written up lustily.  A large part of the summer shambles was the contrasting nature of our defensive play; Legia Warsaw scored six but they also missed a hatful.

While our results have improved in recent weeks it’s the defensive record which has shown the most marked up-lift.  We’ve conceded only twice in seven games, a ricochet against Astra and that goal against Hamilton.  By contrast, we kept only a solitary clean sheet in the seven games prior to this run.

On the surface, we looked shaky in defence for the latter parts of the game against Inverness on Saturday, but while there is still work to do, the defence can be encouraged that they are able to withstand sustained pressure – and that they can rely on their keeper, when necessary.

A couple of action points for you:

Magners are donating £18,300 to the Celtic Foundation.  The money will go to the four areas the Foundation work: Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, in proportion to how fans nominate those areas.  To participate, tweet @MagnersUK with one of the following hashtags: #Health, #Equality, #Learning or #Poverty.

Magners have been a great help to our campaign to build a fourth CQN school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in recent weeks, so I’m keen we support and encourage this initiative.  £18,300 is a huge bonus for the Foundation, they will do great work with it.

The Foundation are full on with their Christmas strategy at the moment.  This year money will be split between those who look after the homeless and vulnerable, and individual families – identified by grassroots organisations, to help them buy gifts for kids and put a Christmas meal on the table.

This work is being done in your name, so make sure you’re aware of it.

The inaugural Foundation ladies’ lunch event, Ghirls for Good, takes place on Saturday 13 December, proceeds towards the Christmas Appeal.  If you qualify……. Book here.

    That guy who knew Fergus, was he quoting him or voicing an opinion?

    And if what he said is quantifiably true, then God alone help the game because it is truly no longer a sport as opposed a moneymaking machine for a few.

    ==============

    It had to be opinion based on Fergus’s attitude back then but it was backed by another recognisable name in more recent times who dealt with Fergus back then .

    Yup God help us.

    Previous blog last page or two.

  5. Did Jimmy Johnstone not go to Sheffield United and Chris Sutton went to either Villa or Birmingham. I think Birmingham, but probably wrong

  6. Afternoon Timland from a wet and stormy hun free mountain valley.

    Great to see CQN getting back to it’s best, some top quality posts today.

    The problem the suits have is they should have spoken out a couple of years ago, sadly they didn’t, too late now.

    I just don’t hold sway that they are concerned about the support, they didn’t do, or say feck all when Lenny was getting sent bombs and bullits, bar a couple of soundbites.

    Res 12

    Auldheid told the blog a while ago that it wasn’t a priority of the board and it was on the back burner, he qualified that at a later date, but sorry mi amigo, it didny wash.

    Res 12 should be the number 1 priority for the club.

    They have failed in their duty to the shareholders, they should be shouting about the theft and corruption from the rooftops.

    What are they doing ?

    They have submitted some documents to the sfa and are waiting for them to get back to them, dearie me.

    Nothing has been done about the referees committies, the same peepil are still in control,still weilding their influence, we are still being cheated with total impunity, I bet they all have a good laugh down the ludge about it every week.

    The latest attack on the club, the Tonev thing, Boyd Not Proven, Tonev Guilty, how in your face is that, feck you Celtic, we will take the piss, laugh at you, cos we know we can, and you will just bend over and ask for more.

    As I said last night before our latest round of power cuts, we should be thankfull we are at the back of the bus and not pushing it for them.

    At last nights meeting was it just all happy clappy types or are the meetings including a decent representation from those who attended the independent meetings setup over last few years. If you know what I mean?

    MWD said AYE

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    There was a big mixture at the meeting, I would say there was a wide variation of fans with different wants and needs and different opinions, but none like you.
  8. GlassTwoThirdsFull on
    So, the super one says he wants to cancel a game against Alloa (so they can pretend they are a big team), but needs to have three players on international duty. Then – out of the blue – Lewis MacLeod gets called up. Hmmmm……..
    If only it was just Ronny an excuse could be made that he is just in the door.
    However, Tony Stokes???
    “I think it will be different to any other Old Firm game because we have gone so long without it.”
    Stokes’ excitement at the return of the old fixture was matched by his manager Ronny Deila, who has never experienced an Old Firm match before.
  10. Right, seem to have baffled the experts with this one.
    Clue time: Wee Jinky went stateside and before embarking on a no-holds-barred columnist/TV pundit/Celtic slaying career, Chris Sutton went dan saff
    Anthony is either one of those bhoys in a bubble they were talking about yesterday, or that or he was trying to repair his much earlier tweet which was much less complementary to the new club.
  12. IGC I’m saying Chris Sutton went to Birmingham and Jimmy Johnstone went to San Jose Earthquakes, then Sheffield United.
  13. So in case you missed it, Bognorbhoy correctly hinted at Jinky moving to San Jose (Earthquakes) and mrob tentatively suggested Birmingham for Sutton.
    For the avoidance of doubt, our greatest ever player, 2nd only to Du Wei in my eyes, moved to San Jose, Sheffield Utd, Dundee, Shelbourne and Elgin playing a total of 51 games in the five years after departing his beloved Bhoys.
    The point is that refusing to use the term Old Firm on the club website or newspaper has little impact if the football employees routinely use it in their dealings with the more influential Scottish media.
    Nobody would be aware of our dislike or disapproval of the term because we keep using it.
    I’m aff oot for a bit ( I’m sure I spotted one of KevJ’s alter egos posting this morning)
  15. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on
    Herik Larsson – Barcelona
    Stan Petrov – Aston Villa
    Vic Wanyama – Southampton
    Georgious Sammaras – West Brom
    Tommy Gemmil – Nottingham Forrest
    I know these were not the questions asked but can I have 5 points anyway
  16. Doctor Whatfor on
    I don’t remember Jinky being at Dundee. However I just googled at and what dae ye know? I’m keech at this.
  17. Celtic could hire the world’s best PR minds and Celtic would still be undermined by scoddland’s best wee minds in the scoddish press.
    However, if it is policy that we quite rightly no longer use the inaccurate phrase “O@@ F@@@”, then starting with Ronny someone needs to sit down and explain this clearly to everyone at Celtic Park.
    Former Celts in the meeja, taking the coin from those outlets who have supported the huns are of course beyond saving and doubtless they’ll sing the tune that keeps their lunch money coming in.
    Same here.
    It’s been posted before but worth repeating Celtic had dropped ‘Old Firm’ at least three or fours years before the demise of Rangers.
    This applied to digital online media, programmes and The Official Celtic View.
  19. On doing some prep for tonight’s coupon, read the match report from the past weekend tie between Norwich and Bolton and couldn’t help notice that Gary Hooper is now being kept out of a starting slot by Kyle-flamin’ Lafferty.
    I kid you not.
    How bad must Gary be feeling these days … ?
    Res 12 should be the number 1 priority for the club.
    By back burner (as I explained I meant other business, like learning Norwegian contract law to sign RD took precedence.)
    It was not the Board we dealt with but the Company Secretary. He has other duties with higher priority.
    But delays were not all down to Celtic either.
    However I do wish it was a number one priorty. I could bloody retire properly.
