I can’t argue with John Hughes winning the Manager of the Year award. Without glossing over the obvious semi-final issue, he’s taken Inverness to stick-on favourites for the Scottish Cup and, for a while, stuck with Aberdeen in the Best of the Rest fight. The second half of the season have seen fortunes fade, but this reflects the resource paucity he has, compared to Dundee United or Aberdeen.
What’s just as clear is that Ronny Deila would have been a contender for the award. Appointing a manager is always a risk. Gordon Strachan was as safe a pair of hands as you could hope for in 2005, but it took nerves of steel for him to cope with some early reversals. Tony Mowbray was also a known quantity, who should have done better, but rookie Neil Lennon pitted against experienced Walter Smith was highly risky. Neil could have sunk without a trace, instead of winning all those trophies.
At least Neil knew the club and the club knew Neil. Appointing a guy from one of the smallest professional clubs in Europe, totally unknown in the Scottish game until Celtic scouted Stefan Johansen, was an almighty risk.
What we recruited was a philosophy. Celtic knew how a football team should be prepared, how to recruit, what tactical intelligence was required in a manager, and they travelled to Strømsgodset to find their man.
Had he qualified for the Champions League group stage, I reckon Ronny would have won Manager of the Year, but as this is the standard Celtic managers are judged by, he missed out. There are no guarantees in football, so qualifying next season cannot be taken for granted, but he should be better prepared. As should the players. This is the target, Ronny.

Just renewed my Season Ticket by phone. Very annoyed. Tried to renew it online but it would only let me go so far so I decided to renew by phone. Gave the guy my details and the sale was processed. I told him I wanted to remain a member of the Home Cup Ticket Scheme but he had no information on this and told me I would have to phone Celtic Park to do so.
I told him that I wanted to cancel today’s transaction and that I would just send in my form via snail mail. He told me that the transaction had been processed and that he couldn’t cancel it but my money was now with Celtic. Very poor show as far as I’m concerned. Celtic have contracted this out to TicketMaster but haven’t given them all the information they need to answer supporters’ queries.
They need to get their act together and sort out the online renewal process.

Correct, Ticketmaster are a disgrace. I stopped using them for anything, better to ring CP direct. The staff are a lot more pleasant too. :-)

Reception centre for unaccompanied migrants under the age of 16 in Caltanissetta gives them 5 euros a day pocket money..Not cash but tokens which can only be used in vending machines inside the Reception Centre.Cue entrepreneurial types using the tokens to get fags from the machine and then selling them at a good price through the fence to locals looking to save money.

I smoke.
20 of the lowest nicotine and tar brand per day.
It costs me £9.30 a packet, or £3500 each year.
That’s pretty typical, although there are brands that are considerably cheaper.
I find smoking keeps my self esteem in check. I stopped once, for three years, and found I had become insufferably smug.
Having gone back on the fags after a 3 year hiatus, I now know I am a complete tosser.
And I’m three and a half grand lighter every year.
Keeps me grounded.
I comfort myself though my knowing that I contribute an additional £2500 per year to support vital national services such as health and education.
Additionally, the actuaries tell me that I’ll die 10 years earlier than the average non smoker, thus saving the country an additional whack in unused pensions.
I mind I wrote something about the economy of being a smoker a while back. Some folk thought it was quite humorous. I can only assume I wrote it after I started smoking again because for 3 years humour and me were distant friends at best.
I don’t like to get involved in politics on this blog but I have to say I’m very concerned that on Friday morning we’ll have a coalition of the Conservatives,UKIP and the DUP(sic).

In Livingston where I reside my choices at the GE are pretty thin.
Labour – No chance I am voting for Graham Morrice. As LB mentioned on previous thread there is a picture – being widely circulated – of him at some Orange Order celebration complete with a dodgy handshake! Besides that, he is not that the sharpest by any means and represents a party that I have only voted for once which was in 1997 when I was at University in Sunderland.
Liberal Democrat – nope not a chance I would vote for a party went into government with the Tories and helped impose austerity as well as reneging on tuition fees.
Conservative – seriously don’t make me laugh, not now and not ever would they get my vote.
UKIP – see Conservative
SNP – Although I was a yes voter I have never been an SNP supporter. Does Hannah Bardell get my vote? I’m not sure, still thinking long and hard on this one.
and that’s it, no party that truly represents my beliefs and my political outlook. So much about the SNP is bad, their opportunistic opposition to Trident while happily signing up to NATO is just one example of their approach. Add to that their 8 years in government and it’s hard to see how they are an anti austerity party when one considers their record. To top it off we have the MET of the north they have created and the Offensive Behaviour Act, an obscene piece of legislation that targets Celtic Fans, Irish Republicans and the Irish community in general.
Truly feeling disenfranchised and it may be the first time I exercise my right to abstain.
Anyway just my ramblings, hopefully no one is offended or upset by them :)
