Robbing Billy to pay Laxey

860

30% interest!  Nice one, Newco Rangers, you’ve got yourself a deal there.  Suggestions that your business plan has been, and remains, unsustainable and extravagant are patently absurd when you can borrow at the kind of rates a Zimbabwean pimp would get at the height of the ZWD’s recent hyper-inflation episode, although it’s probably worth noting that Zimbabwean businesses are currently borrowing at slightly less than half of what Laxey are charging Newco, solvent ones, anyway.

An administration would be a severe embarrassment to the Newco, less than two years after its incorporation, but in many ways it would be a boon, allowing the club to offload all the high earners and establish a breakeven trading platform.

It is utterly incomprehensible why they have not called in the admins, which itself shines a light on management processes inside the club.  No one seems to be asking, “What next?”  Getting deeper into hock with a hedge fund is ruinous.  Notions that if the loan is turned into shares would be a soft landing for the club are absurd.  This is a hedge fund.  A HEDGE FUND!!  The more shares they have, the more exposure they have, the higher return they will demand.

Need some new players, tough, pay my money.  Ticket sales down, that’s disappointing, cut back and pay my money.  Got some maintenance work to do, I don’t care, pay my money then see what’s left.

Keep your eye on the sale and leaseback plan, although not until September.  They should commission a brass statue of a Newco season ticket holder, touching his toes, with the motto ‘Brace yourself’ below.

The only question left is who will be the complicit front man for season ticket sales this year?

Most people are only beginning to realise the consequences of the events of 2012, or what it means to be a zombie club, walking around, not quite the same as before, with various groups randomly gorging on you.  Nothing will ever be as it was.  Ever.  They should’ve listened, before high-fiving Sir David Murray, then Craig Whyte, then Charles Green.  It’s not like we didn’t tell them.

If you’re in the football business, rule number 1 is: Pay your bills.  Every other rule, value and aspiration cannot be met without this rule.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted questions for last week’s Celtic Forum.  The minutes have been published, and are available here.

Do you really think someone has sat down and worked all that out as a plan?

There are easier ways for Sevco to reach the top flight and be in a position to mount a fairly quick challenge for the title but that ship has sailed.

The people who are in charge at Ibroke don’t give a damn about challenging for titles. Their only interest is milking the toxic cow. And those are just the people we know about.

Remember, most of the Sevco shareholders don’t even know who the people pulling the strings are.

    ——

Mo Chara; I believe that the spivs are intent on fleecing the oh so gullible (loyal in their parlance) Zombie foot solider each and every opportunity they can if it were any other club (corpse) than Rangers it would have been festering in a grave years past. However we are not talking about a football team we are talking about the Scottish ‘establishments’ team the fabric of the nation, “a protestant team for a protestant people”, to paraphrase Lord Craigavon if I may. The simple fact that ‘The Rangers’ exists and is treated as one and the same as the old club by the establishment and the media is testament to that. Every feasible effort will be made by the Scots establishment to ensure that the entity know as Rangers is be back competing with Celtic in the near future.

Pop quiz which well know Scottish politician said the following

“Obviously HMRC have got to pursue in the public interest, taxation. Equally, they’ve got to have cognisance of the fact that we’re talking about a huge institution, part of the fabric of the Scottish nation as well as Scottish football, and everybody realises that.

The most diehard Celtic supporter understands that Celtic can’t prosper unless Rangers are there”

  6. Crazed hun on SSB (on in mate’s car) practically foaming at the mouth about Scotland v ROI being played at CP. I think the whole MON, Roy Keane, WGS, Mark McGhee, ROI AND Celtic Park is timmy overload for the demented bam. Hilarious.

  7. Thindimebhoy- the local Greenock newspaper is running with a cover of stories from 1992 tonight- front page is around the increasing number of Nazi type banners appearing at Cappielow at that time-so he maybe is a “Morton fan”. http://news.stv.tv/west-central/265261-hmrc-argue-error-of-law-made-as-rangers-oldco-tax-appeal-begins/

A tax tribunal ruling that payments made to some Rangers players and staff were loans contained “errors in law”, an appeal hearing has heard.

The claim by HM Revenue and Customs came as it opened its appeal against the decision in the so-called “Big Tax Case” on Monday.

The case was one of the key developments which led to the financial collapse of Rangers oldco.

Facing a potential bill of £36.6m from the HMRC over its use of employee benefit trusts (EBTs), RFC 2012 plc failed to reach a deal with its creditors and went into administration and then into liquidation.

However, a tribunal eventually ruled in November 2012 that the payments to the trusts could be treated as loans and the tax bill should be “significantly reduced”.

On Monday, HMRC’s counsel, Roderick Thomson QC, argued that several determinations made by the majority in the initial ruling failed to consider all points of evidence and their cumulative effect.

He stated amounts of evidence had been written off as irrelevant by the majority decision, which found in favour of Rangers oldco by two to one.

Mr Thomson also argued that, in certain parts, the majority decision failed to show the “slightest hint” of understanding HMRC’s initial case.

The beneficiaries of EBTs, including high-profile players and management staff, were not named in the original tribunal hearings.

However, this will change for the majority as the appeal case is being held in public. No witnesses will be called during the appeal hearing.

It emerged at Monday’s hearing that in addition to receiving cash via an EBT from Rangers, former manager Alex McLeish – referred to as Mr Violet in the initial determination – also had a flat bought for him by the trust.

Four weeks have been set aside for the case at the upper tax tribunal, which unlike the first tribunal is being held in public. No date has been set for the final outcome to be delivered.

HMRC had sought £36.6m from the Rangers oldco for PAYE and national insurance for its use of EBTs from 2001 and 2010.

It also alleged that four companies related to Sir David – Murray Group Holdings Ltd, Murray Group Management Ltd, the Premier Property Group Ltd and GM Mining Ltd – owed a further £10m in unpaid taxes on the EBT payments.

The companies had successfully argued that the loans paid via EBTs were recoverable and, as such, did not amount to remuneration for employment.

The Rangers oldco is currently in liquidation, having failed to secure a company voluntary arrangement with its creditors in June 2012.

The company’s assets were subsequently sold to a new company, allowing the club to continue as a functioning member of the Scottish Football Association.

  18. I am a massive fan of the Scandinavian crime series, Borgen, The Bridge and of course The Killing and in my opinion they are a breath of fresh air. Add to that Wallander, then you have the cream on the coffee so to speak.

This brings me on to the Belgain effort Salamander, again on BBC 4 Sat and is indeed brilliant. The story line is a cop, who is trying to get to grips with a very secretive and very very powerful group of people. Are you with me so far?? Well is it spooky or is it just spooky the similarities between Salamander and our masonic pals in Scotland, is so evident. Paranoid, well maybe but just ‘cos I;m paranoid does not mean they are not out to get me!!
