Russia and Ukraine on track for 2015 Joint Championship

950

The organising committee of the proposed Joint Russian and Ukrainian championship have confirmed that the Russian Premier League have voted in favour of the proposal.  The matter will now go to the Russian Association and the corresponding authorities in Ukraine.

Valery Gazzaev, president of Russian club, Alania Vladikavkaz, told reporters, “Innovation is never easy, even the World Cup and European Championships had doubters in the game.  The English, who founded the game, were sceptical about such championships.

“We have had the same doubts about our project but in football, a policy of integration is now necessary.  Look at the European Championship in 2020, which will be held across 13 countries.

“Given the economic crisis in Europe few territories can afford to maintain a competitive team.  If we draw a combined championship with Russia and Ukraine we will improve entertainment, as well as football and financial stability.

“Half of Russian clubs are unprofitable (a considerably lower portion than UK clubs), 70% are subsidised by governmental budgets, this is wrong.  A Joint League will enable teams to earn money to pay their own way.

“We want to create a strong league which will compete with the best in Europe.

“The plan is to hold the first joint championship in 2015-16.  Teams will compete in European competitions under their national flags.  The national quotas for participation in the tournament will remain the same, so if ranking does not change, Russia and Ukraine will be represented in the Champions League by six teams.

“Our proposal is fully consistent with Uefa strategy.  Uefa understand that, under the current league structures, Financial Fair Plan will weaken our clubs.  A combined championship gives us a solution.

“Part of the budget for the new league will come from the sale of media rights.  The remaining amount will be generated from sponsors.  It’s not just about Gazprom, other major Russian, Ukrainian and international companies will be involved (no mention of Flamingo Land yet).”

Make no mistake, this project’s viability is underwritten by political and financial muscle.  Gazprom are a huge player in world energy markets, as well as European football sponsorship, while politicians in Moscow and Kiev see football as a ‘political football’.

They have the money and backers to ensure this slips through Uefa, creating an important blueprint in the process.  Note specifically that Champions League spots will be retained by each nation, a hugely important point for integration elsewhere.

  3. BOJO, always has a plan, don’t you know, easy, play 10 at the back, nobody up front,

    and hope for a penalty!

    What’s wrong with that plan?

Think I’ll leave it to Neil.

    H.H.

  4. Two things

I left school and went for a job as a YTS for a local company in Ayrshire, wee TV outfit.

I didn’t want the job and went with my big one inch gold crucifix hanging out. I got the job, the wee company was owned by a couple of guys, non Catholic, neither gave a toss.. lol

Two, it exists without a doubt in my current job, hence MickTT….!

To pinch a phrase… “off oot” wi ma blonde burd, God Bless all.

  5. Not one of you wind up eejits would have the cojones to speak to Neil the way that you talk about him on here.

Nobody wants to stifle constructive criticism, in fact we need it to thrive but self indulgent waffle that involves farting the first fleeting thought that escapes a tiny mind…

Maybe we need to move the whole blog into a pub as the only way to escape trolls. TSD would be doing a first class impression of a Trappist Monk if he ever went to the Supporters Club.

  6. Any Dubs on the Blog. Will be in Dublin tomorrow for All Ireland Final. Planning to go up early and watch the Celtic Game, prior to the match. Any recommended Pubs, City Centre or Croke Park environs.

I don’t believe there is much discrimination against Catholics these days. i think there will be little pockets in working environments where there may be, but tbh i think there will be as much against asians, blacks, chinese etc, as well as women, gays, old people etc.

Anyone could quote isolated incidences and build up a picture, but it wouldn’t reflect scottish society properly.

Two examples i could give are Glasgow council, where being a celtic season ticket holder can be seen as an advantage, and the fact that Rangers employ some celtic season ticket holders as key operational staff on matchdays. As i say, isolated anecdotes can build a misleading picture.

Overall, i think it is healthier to observe that believe it or not, Scotland is much more liberal in it’s dealings with ‘minorities’ than England, France, Italy to name a few.

I’ve never encountered anti catholic bias in a workplace (I’m not saying it doesn’t happen) – though I would be very annoyed if it was my son was being discriminated against by some cretin. Tin hat on.

Is this your subjective opinion or is it based on data of some sort?

As an aside, I’ve never knowingly been the subject of discrimination – though clearly that doesn’t mean it never happened. However, I went for an interview about 9 months ago at a bank in Edinburgh. Was just me and the woman who was interviewing. We covered all the usual stuff around experience (25 years), etc. etc. Seemed I was “ideal for the role” as she said. Final question was “I notice you have a West coast accent. Do you support Rangers? It would be really good if you supported Rangers because the guy you would report to is a big Rangers fan. In fact, if they’ve not done well at the weekend then he comes in on a Monday in a very bad mood.” I pointed out (with a big smile) that Rangers were no longer in existence and he therefore must come in pretty cut up every Monday.

    They didn’t call back…

  8. Right – here’s amazing statistics

    Appearances 663 goals 7

I suppose subjective / my experience. though is there any data to support a contrary view?

  11. Contrary to popular CQN mythology the huns are not deid. Ok a company is deid but that is meaningless as Jim Spence discovered. The huns will have no problem being promoted all the way to the SPL the Scottish Protestant league or whatever it will be called in 2015-16. As security in galaxy quest said:

I’m no Dub but I’ll be watching the Celtic game in Mullet’s 45 Amiens St just a few doors up from the North Star Hotel. We have been there before the hurling and football semis and finals. It’s a great wee pub. There’s a fantastic picture of Michael Collins and Harry Boland with the Kilkenny hurlers in Croker in September 1921.

You would feel at home there!

  15. I watched Danny many a time and, from these stats, it would seem like he was wild and hopeless at shooting.

My memory is that his shots often fizzed by the post or over the bar by inches. It’s almost as if Danny thought that scoring was an unfair demonstration of his talents.

Now that I cast my mind back, I struggle to recall any of his actual goals. I see that his stats show him as scoring 3 in the LC and only 4 in the league, two of them in the same season.

Am I wrong in thinking that some of his goals were penalties??
