The organising committee of the proposed Joint Russian and Ukrainian championship have confirmed that the Russian Premier League have voted in favour of the proposal. The matter will now go to the Russian Association and the corresponding authorities in Ukraine.
Valery Gazzaev, president of Russian club, Alania Vladikavkaz, told reporters, “Innovation is never easy, even the World Cup and European Championships had doubters in the game. The English, who founded the game, were sceptical about such championships.
“We have had the same doubts about our project but in football, a policy of integration is now necessary. Look at the European Championship in 2020, which will be held across 13 countries.
“Given the economic crisis in Europe few territories can afford to maintain a competitive team. If we draw a combined championship with Russia and Ukraine we will improve entertainment, as well as football and financial stability.
“Half of Russian clubs are unprofitable (a considerably lower portion than UK clubs), 70% are subsidised by governmental budgets, this is wrong. A Joint League will enable teams to earn money to pay their own way.
“We want to create a strong league which will compete with the best in Europe.
“The plan is to hold the first joint championship in 2015-16. Teams will compete in European competitions under their national flags. The national quotas for participation in the tournament will remain the same, so if ranking does not change, Russia and Ukraine will be represented in the Champions League by six teams.
“Our proposal is fully consistent with Uefa strategy. Uefa understand that, under the current league structures, Financial Fair Plan will weaken our clubs. A combined championship gives us a solution.
“Part of the budget for the new league will come from the sale of media rights. The remaining amount will be generated from sponsors. It’s not just about Gazprom, other major Russian, Ukrainian and international companies will be involved (no mention of Flamingo Land yet).”
Make no mistake, this project’s viability is underwritten by political and financial muscle. Gazprom are a huge player in world energy markets, as well as European football sponsorship, while politicians in Moscow and Kiev see football as a ‘political football’.
They have the money and backers to ensure this slips through Uefa, creating an important blueprint in the process. Note specifically that Champions League spots will be retained by each nation, a hugely important point for integration elsewhere.

Definitely didn’t get one. I wouldn’t know if others did or didn’t without actually asking them. Nothing has come via my clerk. Just wondered if there was some problem with the system (it’s notorious for such) and maybe your emails hadn’t got through. DC must have got it though. I can’t find any advocate’s personal email on the website though – just the stable e-mail.

Monaghan1900 I went to a lot of trouble to make sure the e-mails were all addressed to individuals and not as batches to the clerks.
In the few instances that there were not details of advocates (usually juniors) I used the format first name dot surname At advocates dot org.
About fifteen bounced back as undelivered and in each instance they were from Ampersound stable and when I looked at them they had been copied from that stables website but there was a flaw in that a double forward slash prefixed the normal address thus//.
I deleted this // and resent them and did not get one returned. I only got a few automated messages. Micheal Upton was out and Scott Blair was at court. Catherine Devaney’s message said she is on maternity leave.
There were one or two advocates I couldn’t get addresses for and surprisingly my old friend John Campbell was one.
I did a similar exercise to this in about 2000 when I wrote to all the members by letter and enclosed a SAE and a Y/N questionaire which I mention in this mailing.
Please get in touch but if clerks are censoring/diverting mail that is marked as it was, then it is a sad state of affairs.
I don’t expect my old adversary Donald Martin Findlay to support my petition, but I did ask!

A relative of mine whose son was leaving school last year was speaking to a fairly senior HR staff member (who I know as well) at Fife Council and relative was told to tell her son to put in a school other than St Columba’s as many of the line managers who the HR person passed the forms on to would bin if they saw the St!

Rememember Fergus when he approached the old board to renovate the stadium and take charge of increasing season ticket sales.

I don’t believe there is much discrimination against Catholics these days. i think there will be little pockets in working environments where there may be, but tbh i think there will be as much against asians, blacks, chinese etc, as well as women, gays, old people etc.
Anyone could quote isolated incidences and build up a picture, but it wouldn’t reflect scottish society properly.
Two examples i could give are Glasgow council, where being a celtic season ticket holder can be seen as an advantage, and the fact that Rangers employ some celtic season ticket holders as key operational staff on matchdays. As i say, isolated anecdotes can build a misleading picture.
Overall, i think it is healthier to observe that believe it or not, Scotland is much more liberal in it’s dealings with ‘minorities’ than England, France, Italy to name a few.
I’ve never encountered anti catholic bias in a workplace (I’m not saying it doesn’t happen) – though I would be very annoyed if it was my son was being discriminated against by some cretin. Tin hat on.
