Russia and Ukraine on track for 2015 Joint Championship

950

The organising committee of the proposed Joint Russian and Ukrainian championship have confirmed that the Russian Premier League have voted in favour of the proposal.  The matter will now go to the Russian Association and the corresponding authorities in Ukraine.

Valery Gazzaev, president of Russian club, Alania Vladikavkaz, told reporters, “Innovation is never easy, even the World Cup and European Championships had doubters in the game.  The English, who founded the game, were sceptical about such championships.

“We have had the same doubts about our project but in football, a policy of integration is now necessary.  Look at the European Championship in 2020, which will be held across 13 countries.

“Given the economic crisis in Europe few territories can afford to maintain a competitive team.  If we draw a combined championship with Russia and Ukraine we will improve entertainment, as well as football and financial stability.

“Half of Russian clubs are unprofitable (a considerably lower portion than UK clubs), 70% are subsidised by governmental budgets, this is wrong.  A Joint League will enable teams to earn money to pay their own way.

“We want to create a strong league which will compete with the best in Europe.

“The plan is to hold the first joint championship in 2015-16.  Teams will compete in European competitions under their national flags.  The national quotas for participation in the tournament will remain the same, so if ranking does not change, Russia and Ukraine will be represented in the Champions League by six teams.

“Our proposal is fully consistent with Uefa strategy.  Uefa understand that, under the current league structures, Financial Fair Plan will weaken our clubs.  A combined championship gives us a solution.

“Part of the budget for the new league will come from the sale of media rights.  The remaining amount will be generated from sponsors.  It’s not just about Gazprom, other major Russian, Ukrainian and international companies will be involved (no mention of Flamingo Land yet).”

Make no mistake, this project’s viability is underwritten by political and financial muscle.  Gazprom are a huge player in world energy markets, as well as European football sponsorship, while politicians in Moscow and Kiev see football as a ‘political football’.

They have the money and backers to ensure this slips through Uefa, creating an important blueprint in the process.  Note specifically that Champions League spots will be retained by each nation, a hugely important point for integration elsewhere.

    Good Evening.

Almost fifty years ago, a young skinny nervous dark haired girl, stood in front of a microphone with a little known band called the Stone Poneys. At the start of some songs, she took a little wobble– or maybe a warble– just feeling her way gently into the song before unleashing a voice that could variously be described as an instrument, a siren or even a weapon!

She went on to become the world’s first female stadium act, was nominated for numerous Grammy’s. Tony’s, Golden Globes, Emmys and just about any other kind of award going.

She eventually sold over 100 Million records covering all sorts of styles from Rock, to folk, to country, to world music including Opera and Punk influenced songs– singing anything and everything, collaborating with many other stars of different genres along the way.

She has appeared on the cover of every major magazine at some point in her career

( making the cover of Rolling Stone no less than 6 times ) and has featured regularly on both Time and Newsweek.

She has been politically active all her life, and in 1978 was the highest paid woman in popular music when in that one year her album sales grossed $60 Million.

Regrettably, however, time waits for no man and no woman, and last month she announced that the onset of Parkinsons disease had stolen her voice leaving her such that she could no longer sing a solitary note!

So, here along with another two female singing legends, is the fabulous Ms Linda Maria Rondstadt from 2008.

Clearly, she is no longer the skinny teenage girl, or the skinny young woman who knocked seven bells out of Blue Bayou.

However, despite the passage of years and the tell-tale signs of age just listen to this for a voice ( and indeed a set of harmonies from her two sidekicks ) — sadly it is a voice we will not hear again.

  6. Does HT have a three match ban before his nuptials. Incase he gets scudded with a loose ball and his fizzog is no good for the wedding pictures.

  7. This air commemorates the long march – of 1000 followers of Donal Cam O’Sullivan Beare, only 35 arrived at the O-Rourke in Leitrim

Interestingly, this same air is played every year at Linlithgow Marches, where it is know as “The Roke and The Row”… how that happened, I dunno

  16. Scotland, a land where if you are of the right persuasion, you can act with total impunity.

A country where you can buy a football club with tax payers money, a land where you can chase a dream, again with tax payers money,a land where you can dup a debt of hundreds of millions and nobody seems to give a shit, a land where you can cheat your biggest rivals, a land where the football powers allow you to cheat with their backing, a land where you can defraud the tax man and they will turn a blind eye to you dealings.

A land that allows you to intimidate your rivals knowing you can do so with the full backing of the police, a land where the police openly discriminate against the minority in the land.

A country where the leader of the political power openly states that, the corrupt club are the fabric of the nation, a land where sectarian songs, that have been deemed illegal, are lauded by a senior minister of the land when sung at a game when they beat their biggest rivals.

A land where the judiciary can not convict a man who openly states in court that he is guilty of an assault.

A land where a man doing his job of work is sent bombs and bullets in the mail, a land where the same man and his family have to be taken to a safe house in the middle of the night on quite a few occasions cos they can not guarantee his safety.

A land where the media are scared to report the truth as they are fear of their lifes, and the lifes of their familys.

A land where the court system is under the influence of the masonic order…….

Jeez, I could go on all night.

  18. I know its a regular thing on here, people saying how much they love their fellow Tims, but HT & Minx have just brought it to a new level altogether. Even though I don’t really know either of them, I am genuinely delighted for them. Its amazing how Celtic & CQN just draws you in and makes you feel part of a family.

Oh Ghod, having said that, kinda makes me feel like my brother and my sister are planning to marry each other.

Just back on and saw your post.

We first met through CQN so Mr Paul67 has much to be responsible for!

I was still a monk and Minx was still at convent then so sadly a liaison wasn’t possible.

However, we both then met up through the Wee Oscar For Life Campaign, which came about as a result of Knoxy posting on CQN.

So aye and naw really :-)
