Sanctimonious nonsense about Celtic fans from ex-Ranger

493

I’ve read sanctimonious nonsense about how Celtic fans are enjoying these times, on how they should feel instead, and on how they will feel, one day.  I’ve also read what utterings our chief executive and manager should limit themselves to.

Our manager and directors have so far said very little on the subject of Rangers, only responding to direct questions or when you, the Celtic fans, were brought into the debate, without reference to any of us, by the First Minister.  Their response to Mr Salmond brought a swift and appropriate retraction.

It concerns me greatly that Scottish Premier League championships could have been won by a team playing improperly registered football players.  It would concern me even more if my concerns, your concerns, were not shared by the people charged with speaking on our behalf.  It is the responsibility of Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell to leave no Celtic supporter in any doubt that they will vigorously pursue our supporters’ historical and future interests.

Mark Hateley’s piece on today’s Daily Record betrays a lot of hurt.  He concedes this season’s title to Celtic, which he regards as “tainted”.

As someone suggested in the CQN comments section this week, “We don’t need your stinkin’ 10 point penalty”….. we have another 10 point lead in reserve.

Hately suggests you should have the “good grace” to move on as his club “attempts to battle for its very existence”, adding, “There is no need for the likes of Lennon and Peter Lawwell to continue to sink the boot in”.

We will move on once justice has been done and is seen to be done.  Anyone who suggests otherwise, that somehow justice, the maintenance of ethical standards in the game, or even legality, are not things football fans, managers or directors should concern themselves with, has perhaps headed too many footballs in his time.

The coup-de-grace from Hateley was “So let Celtic get on with celebrating their title – a title they somehow failed to win throughout the last three years of financial troubles”.  Does anyone believe Rangers would have won three leagues had they paid their tax instead of singing Jelavic, Lafferty, Davis, Edu, Naismith or Bougherra?

I think this guy is missing the point. If the First Tier Tribunal report confirms already-made allegations that Rangers improperly registered football players, this bling that Hateley is flashing in your face is ill-gotten.

The Celtic manager, directors and support, together with most others in Scottish football, have to ensure that Fifa rules on the registration of football players is not subverted.

robertressel – it is a bit sad trynig to call me a hun because i gave somebody his proper name. sir david is the guys name. do you not know that. the man earned his title in my book. he took the rangers from nobody to the very top of the bush. even as celtic fans we have to respect that. we are talking about a man with a vat empire. he has a wine yard in spain aswell. how many dumplings do you know with a wine yard and a vat empire. none i bet. yes he may have to carry a small bit of blame for the debackel at the rangers just now but it must have been some poor advice he was given as that man has not put a leg wrong since he took over the rangers. it was sad to see how that ended with him walking out of the club he loves with his head held low. i am a loyal celtic fan but i have passion for other men and even i could see how much sir david was hurting that day. i dont laff at those less lucky than myself as you never know when the shoe will be on the other foot.

RobertTressell – How narrow minded of you, Robert.

You are entitled to your opinion on the honours system, etc. but Sir David is a Sir.

It is his title, bestowed by our much beloved Head of State (God bless her), and it is churlish to disrespect Her Majesty by pretending that he is not a knight of her realm.

Just as Paul McBride QC is a Queen’s Counsel and our esteemed former chairman Baron Reid of Cardowan is a peer.

Interestingly, John Reid once held opinions similar to you own, but he outgrew them and look where he is today! Being a communist got him nowhere. That’s something you should consider, maybe one day you too can become part of the British establishment.

One might harbour negative opinions about the medical profession, or academia in general, but it would be bad manners to refuse to address someone who is a doctor as “doctor”. Similarly whatever one’s views on religion, refusing to address a priest, a minister, or a rabbi by his proper title would be improper.

    Civilisation is founded on civility.

    ———————————————–

‘Knowing ones place’, ‘doffing the cap’, ‘deferring to those who know better’, ‘good manners (when those manners are decided by those who lord it over you)’, titles – including those of Father, Lord, Doctor whatever – are not there to ‘civilise’ but to cow, to ensure a bended knee and a crooked back.

7 years in medical school or a seminary, arbitrary awards to people who have served themselves more than they have served others with the occasional gong to hard working charity workers and such like to give a gloss of meritocracy to it does not make anyone more deserving of a title than me or anyone else.

We were all given names by our parents. Many of us were Christened/ Baptised and had our names sanctified. I place more value on the name given by a parent than a title bestowed by some institution, government, monarch or tin pot dictator.

You are, if you are not just having a laugh, becoming a parody and a charicature of the things you claim to believe in.

It occurs to me that Hately and the hun horde have a misplaced paranoia.

It’s not the unseen hand of Timmy that’s done them in – it’s the unseen hand of Billy.

Don’t think they have the collective intellect to absorb that one…

  6. Anyone calling into Shortbread or Snyde this evening should highlight that Hately is a muppet of the 1st order. As many have already pointed out no mention of the league being tainted when they were 15 point clear.

It seems Brimmers right – Broonie a doubt for Motherwell and Slovenia – poor Kojo must be gutted.

  10. From the “Save Rangers” Facebook page :

“Craig Whyte has underestimated the situation and just because he has conned his way in business through pheonixing and immoral ways; he thinks that he can do this to his “fellow” Rangers’ supporters. As the famous quote goes “you can full some of the people all of the time but you can full all the people all the time”. I hope Mr whyte gets his cumuppance and maybe a stretch at the instance of Her Majesty. This situation will allow Rangers to come back stronger in time and we will have our day with our friends in the east end. We have to be patient and really get behind the club in these dark days.”

Declan – you’ve been masquerading as a hurting bear there, haven’t you? You can’t full me………..

    —————————————

Never tried to call you a ‘hun’. Said you are not a Tim.

And his name is not ‘Sir’. His name is David Murray. ‘Sir’ is a title that I refuse to use for reasons outlined above. How Murray and his ilk come to be in possession of ‘vast empires’, ‘vineyards’ and the rest…. ach why bother.

Are you really Awe Naw and I’m just wasting my time? I suspect so………………. More fool me for answering!

  12. It seems clear that Whyte is now the scapegoat for everything bad that has happened to the huns. But is this a concerted campaign to exonerate Murray of any blame? If so, it will surely all come to an end when the Big Tax Case hits.

It seems that the ground is being laid already for the Newco argument. You never hear “Rangers did …” or “Rangers didn’t pay…”. It’s always Whyte’s fault.

Will we see a scenario where poor wee Rangers are actually the victims in all of this? That it’s not the club’s fault what its unscrupulous owner(s) did in the name of the dignified institution. And the extension of that – it wouldbe unfair for the club to be punished too much for what others have done to it. It would be unfair to the fans. And (as we are already told) Scottish football would suffer.

So, lets get rid of the tarnished oldco and put the shiny, clean Newco into the SPL. Everything can then go on as it should.

But we mustn’t let them forget that it was Rangers who didn’t pay tax. Rangers who employed players on EBTs. Rangers who gained all the advantages of their own cheating and fraudulent behaviour.

And, as a result, it is Rangers FC PLC (in administration). Not Craig Whyte (in administration).

Thanks very much for posting that. Wonderful insight into a young manager and I agree 100% with him. Looking after young players is paramount to their development. Look at the change in Petrov after he got himself sorted out.

    Mort

  14. indulge me a wee minute, if you please…

    let’s look at a what-if scenario.

best case, for them, they get wound up and rebranded as newco. they get their stadium back, ticketus get shafted, and they get voted into the spl.

    who owns them?

first off, the suggestion is a conglomerate of rangers fans. now i dunno how far a DHSS crisis loan stretches nowadays, but it’s fair to assume they’d need to operate in terms of tens of thousands of contributors, and even at £100 each, that’s only a million quid per 10,000. this is the same fans who couldn’t organise a buttock at the top of their leg. is it true every rangers supporter has their own rangers supporter associiation?

so they’d need a financial big hitter. dave king has his own taxing issues and i’d guess would fall foul of any sort of fit and proper test. joe lewis is (i think) doing quite nicely at spurs, and has already been stung for forty very large. paul murray doesn’t have the finances. michael carroll, well… ahem…

so at best they can anticipate a relatively obscure local businessman’s investment. pretty much like partick thistle, or saint johnstone or whoever…

does this not mean that’s the calibre of player they can expect? can’t see the teds showing up in full houses to see a team of players who’d struggle to get a game for motherwell…

and in much the same way that (ill gotten) success breeds success… so too mediocrity breeds the same.

when other clubs are building on european income denied to them, so too their problems will compound.

some have advocated quick termination, others slow and painful extinction. i believe there is a third option…

abort them immediately, then let their reincarnation suffer to perpetuity as it roasts on the flames of spl mid-table mediocrity hell.

does anybody really think a mid table rangers side would attract more paying punters than, say, hearts, aberdeen, dundee united, even hibs? so why, without stealing and massive personal investment should they be any better than clubs?

With the dark side once again orchestrating affairs within the SFA and Media on his behalf, it really does provide more proof that things are weighted heavily in the huns’ favour, when an ex-employee, guilty of bigoted remarks, is syrupticiously (pun intended) re-instated into another high profle position.

Don’t wish to spoil Chas (POTY) Mulgrew’s 1st full international cap but the Scots national team can GTF IMO as can Norway as Tommy Rogne was called up also. We need all our players fit and healthy for the SPL and maximum points. We do not need them exposed to injury playing meaningless games. Big Dan to get a game for Sweden :-)
