SFA giving lectures on accountability

1464

Fifa is unfit for purpose, investigations abound but we’ve not seen convictions yet.  The president has not been arrested, but, well, he has president over this enormous shambles, yet he refuses to resign.  His resignation is needed to relieve the reputation of Fifa, the reputation of football itself.  We all know this, but SFA chef exec, Stewart Regan said as much.

The SFA is Blatter’s role model.  Regan conceded SFA president Campbell Ogilvie was horribly conflicted, as the Association dealt with the consequences of the biggest directorial negation of duty in Scottish football history – by Ogilvie, who was director and company secretary of the dysfunctional board.

Ogilvie never resigned.  Ogilvie has still not resigned.  Regan said nothing.  Ogilvie’s supporters in the game rallied round, just as Blatter’s have today.

This is how human nature works.  Ogilvie has been in enough committee meetings, pressed enough flesh, to ensure that despite the slaying he took at the hands of Lord Nimmo Smith’s SPL inquiry, he could brass it out.  Accountability at the SFA does not exist.  I get it.  But, the SFA cannot have the audacity to make moralistic statements about the corporate accountability of others.

It is a depressing feature of Scottish life that we don’t have a culture of accountability, that the media are not sufficiently plural that such hypocrisy is exposed for what it is, that there isn’t a single elected representative prepared to disengage with the Scottish establishment on this today.

The new media are not there yet.  We don’t have the authority of a broadcaster or politician to demand, and get, accountability.  That’ll change in time.

You can apply to extradite anyone to face criminal charges but it is more compelling if it is one of your own citizens. Some countries will not extradite their own citizens so we may a dash for their own countries by some of the gang of seven (or is it nine) if they get bail.

The USA could of course just bundle you onto an unmarked plane and that would be an extraordinary rendition or illegal extradition :o)

Been aff oot so just catching up.

ruggygman-i would have started Sutton, huns weak from high balls, specially their GK.

  6. Geordie, didn’t even gogle it. Read it somewhere earlier today. Is that cheating?

  7. OK, confession time.

My name is Jobo…….and I’m excited about tonight’s game.

For all the wrong reasons probably, but no point in trying to hide just how absolutely deliriously happy I could be 3 hours from now if I’ve just watched the generally useless Motherwell come away with a victory.

I couldn’t put it better myself, mate. Yes,I agree with anyone who is p’d off at the huns still being around, but hurting Celtic will only help the huns.

I know there are principles involved for those not renewing, but I vowed never to return after one particular episode, and bit the bullet by returning first chance I got. Quite open about it too.

Voice your opposition from Celtic Park, you’ll be in good company!

    It was a polite request.

The focus on tonight’s game, along with JVOH’s resurfacing, brought back memories of April 16, 2008.

The chest-down from Sammi, a lofted ball by Caldwell, Skippy’s looping header, Vengoor of Hesslink’s crashing finish, and the loudest noise I’ve ever experienced at Celtic Park.

More than 7 years ago. I hate time.

  11. Craigellachie10 on

Even as Brother Madden dons the apron in preparation for the evenings ritual, something tells me that Skippy and Co may just edge it tonight. That of course will leave Brother Thomson with a task to do.

I’ve always believed we would have the hun back

    next season,but I live in hope,anyways who’s watching?

  13. Craigellachie10 on

To be honest if Sevco do come through the tie and survive the summer I am now resigned to the fact that they will have earned their way to the top league. We will then face them 3-4 times in league matches and I will attend Celtic Park to support our team against them.

They will remain a new club in my eyes and I will treat games against them as such. If they do source funding and begin to mount a challenge then they may in time rival Abrdeen as best of the rest adding spice to our fixtures.

At the time of Rangers demise it was being widely reported as such in the press.

Why would Celtic want to add anything to what was being widely reported AND accepted by everyone.

The holding company snash did not occur on RFC entering liquidation when CV rejected, it started to appear as hunguffery in the weeks following.

It is guffery of such unthinking hunnishness that only a clairvoyant in the Nostradamus class could have anticipated it taking hold to the degree that it has, all for commercial reasons.

Remember too that hard as it is to accept, for Ranger supporters the death of their club was a deep deep wound, so deep they continue to deny it, but for Celtic to throw salt on it by declaring what you suggest would have been dangerous for Celtic supporters and viewed as unthinking crassness by the footballing world.

Apart from which it would have made no difference at all to what TRFC supporters think and continue to claim.

Embdae speak Emmerdale? Can maybe translate when the Mullet gets interviewed…..

  17. Isn’t it amazing that Hugh Keevins gets the opportunity to interview Kris Commons, and all he wants to do, is pose questions on the two most negative agenda’s concerned.

Sammi in full flow was a joy to behold – pity he didn’t get the chance too often against the sardine formation of so many SPL sides.

Hope he gets the chance at West Brom to prove himself, although his form had taken a slight descent in his last year with us.

  23. Look can we try to get this right…

  25. While I am well aware of Motherwell’s dreadful record in the 21st century against clubs playing out of Ibrox, and while I don’t hold out much hope of that record changing any time soon, anyone who believes that Motherwell as a team or any of their individual players would lie down to or not try against another team in a play-off final that determines whether they stay up in the top division or drop down to the second tier, has lost all grip of reality and knows sod all about football.

  26. up_over_goal: Aye. :-)

West Brom farmed him out to Al-Hilal back in January. He started well — that’s most of the highlights — but got injured, and has become unsettled. Rumor is he might be headed to Sporting Lisbon, which would be awesome asthey also wear Green Hoops, plus, on account of that wee trophy back in ’67 … ;-)

You are spot on. They will give it all and in Barraclough have a manager with no establishment links who is putting out a team to fight for his reputation and possibly his job.
