SFA must charge those responsible for bringing the game into disrepute

956

Let’s be clear from the off, Craig Whyte is not your friend. He was not the man who “murdered” Rangers any more than Alasdair Johnston, his accuser, who was paid to ensure the club was run in an appropriate manner in the years prior to its crash into liquidation.

If Whyte has your job, your pension or your wellbeing in his hands, you would likely fair no better than those who have had the misfortune to be vulnerable to his exploitative nature before. He is the worst manifestation of our corporate system.

As yesterday’s verdict at Glasgow High Court established, he was merely a collaborative player in the drama which saw Murray Group shed its liabilities to Rangers fans into an all-too certain, and limited, future.

The SFA were right to quickly fine and sine die Whyte, despite the fact that he has no inclination to become involved in football again. What the Association must now do is examine the role of those who had explicit and executive oversight responsibility of managing Rangers through the process of its decline and sale to a character with a lengthy corporate irresponsibility charge sheet.

Whyte was not in any way a bad choice for the job required at Rangers. For those with most to gain, he was the perfect choice. He was, in fact, the only choice, if the desired result was to be delivered – and it was.

No one else would have had the stomach to pick up a corporate basket case, manoeuvring bank debt, securitising years of ticket sales, brazingly stiffing public service funding, and in doing so, freeing Murray Group from a disabling liability.

What do I care? I predicted, then watched, Rangers inevitable crash into administration and liquidation. Patience and thick skin was all that was required through the years of bravado from Ibrox. Those who shouted down the glaringly obvious in support of these charlatans have been shown up as malleable accomplices.

There is one outstanding matter I do care about. In my opinion, Sir David Murray did not discharge his duties as the ultimate controlling director of Rangers FC in a responsible manner. If there is one issue which every Scottish football fan can unite on, it is surely this.

The deplorable sequence of events at that club, from it’s exploitation of the Employee Benefit Trust scheme to pay millionaires tax free sums through a system which was designed to allow employers to aid staff through periods of hardship.

To its submissions to the SFA on taxable overdue. To the shredding of correspondence, and failure to disclose other correspondence.

Rangers were a huge influence on our game; on the SFA, the SPL, the media, and more. The executives concerned had placemen who protected them. The SFA must now charge those responsible for bringing the game into disrepute.

More sine die punishments would mean little to men who are already finished with the game, but it would be a hugely significant act of faith towards the paying public, of all colours.  It is time for us all to unite against the men who really did sell the jerseys.

    Congratulations to Corbyn.

One in the eye for the doubters .

    Including me.

  3. Well, well, well. The sun is shining here in the Cotswolds. Cannot believe that result! Regret that it does not mean a lot at the moment. As I spotted last night, the DUP are so happy even more so than Ruth Davidson I think, they hold the aces. If , Indy 2 is off the agenda then Davidsons trump card is gone in the next election. The DUP will take advantage of this, when was that ever a good thing?

Oh, and there is the small matter of Brexit, I see utter chaos and more financial uncertainty. That means more profits for the financial speculators, when is that a good thing?

Not surprised at the Tory swing in the farming communities, even less surprised at the unionist/ orange card being played in other areas. Not a good thing either.

I wish I could enjoy seeing the silly May woman getting her just rewards however there are not too many reasons to gloat this morning. I don’t like floating anyway.

Take care everyone, a long day ahead. HH

Well said MACJAY. If he can unite the party and the PLP get behind him as they should do; and the BBC rein in that bitch Keunssberg; then maybe we will see the Labour Party back challenging properly in the election in September/October! Not that you’d be too enamoured with that right enough!

Imagine what Corbyn might have done with a fair press and actual party unity instead of many within the parliamentary party openly trying to get rid of him.

If you look at the result as it stands, had every seat in Scotland gone to Labour it would still be a hung parliament with the prospect of the Tories getting help from Northern Ireland.

  9. I don’t think the orange vote is relevant in Scotland,s rural areas. It’s just Torres reverting to voting Tory again.

The Tories have never really gone away you know , they just borrowed yellow and black rosettes.

There is a world of difference in the SNP voter demographics in the rural areas and in the industrial regions which will prove impossible to reconcile.

The bottom line: vote SNP and what do you get ? Well it depends on your postcode.

Hopefully in the future, the people of Scotland will reject division and vote for equality. And equally important, reject the Rags that advocate it.

    Hail, Hail.

Scotland won the election for the Tories 11 MP’s . Is this for real. Feck sake. Hang your head in shame Scotland.

  12. An election result were there are no real winners party wise, DUP/DOBs apart.

Jeremy Corbyn has proven his critics within and Outwith his party wrong. Well done for bringing true Labour values back to the populace. Unfortunately Scottish Labour is still stuck in Blairite love in. Take a look at yourself Dugtailess and GTF.

Ironic that the two main leave nations have just about helped keep the Tories in power.

SNP on the ropes but no knockout still winning on all refs score cards.

If you ever hear the phrase ‘Poor or hard done by farmer’ again in a Scottish context poke whoever says it in the eye with a red hot poker. Scotland voting in 12 haters of the poor and working class is unbelievable! Shameful from a nation that has proven itself more blue than ever since the days of Ding Dong the witch is dead.

Once again Scottish Labour proves itself utterly hopeless but doesn’t surprise when the party up here struggles to support a genuine Labour man in Jerremy Corbyn. Kez Dugtailless couldn’t even manage to stand side by side with Corbyn on the last day of canvassing when he visited Scotland.

Some strangely weird results doon South with a seat that has been Tory since 1918 going to Labour.

Brexit and Independence have certainly plopped the political classes into crisis of thought and understanding.

Hopefully, somehow this will go to another costly GE (+100m) and Corbyn can now be seen as PM material with a wee Tory leadership battle. And Scottish Labour can get it’s act together to battle the hateful blues and the SNP up here a bit better backing Jeremy fully.

I voted Labour yesterday. It was a vote for Corbyn and not a vote for any of the useless labour muppets up here, in my mind. It was the only way I could bring myself to vote Labour again.

Amber Rudd was 100 votes behind at the first count, two recounts later she won by 300 votes. Hmm.

  18. Overnight, I remain pleased that Labour recovered, to the extent that it has, but disappointed that the miracle did not happen and they could not actually form a government.

Labour has recovered its strength. The SNP still remains strong and significant but is now fully aware that Indy Ref 2, after so short a time, did not play well with even its own party members.

And greenpinata is right, whatever return there has been of the WASP vote to the Tories, it has not been in the OO hearlands of central Scotland, The people voting Tory across the Border constituencies and in Perth, Moray and the North East are not a solid bloc of OO Sevcoites- they are farming folk, fishing folk, whose parents and grandparents voted for the tories too. They are as likely to be rugby fans, St. Johnstone fans, Aberdeen fans and QOTS fans as they are to be OO fans. They are also likely to float between SNP and Tory, in the NE, and between LD and Tory in the Borders.

There is a solid mess around this vote, the reasons for it and the outcomes. We cannot explain it away with the wishful thinking that this is all the OO’s fault.

There will be an attempt to form a struggling Tory coalition now. It is highly unlikely that Boris or Gove can win a Tory leadership contest, as they helped cause this mess. Much more likely they will reach for a Blair/ Cameron type of candidate.

And, you know what? If there is mass bloodletting in the Labour Party as a triumphalist group looks to expel all Blairites, then we will hand the next election straight back to the Tories and SNP.

I can disagree all I like with Hilary Benn, Chuka Umuna and Tom Watson (another decent guy) but they remained loyal to the Party, as opposed to the leader, and they have earned the right to remain in the party to which they belong. However, a period of reflection and apology from them would be welcomed.

We need, still, to unite and find common ground in our differences now because the probability of one, and the possibility of two, expensive divorce(s) lie(s) ahead of us. Austerity will flow naturally from both of those actions. More than ever, we are going to need policies to protect the poor from the forces that conspire against them.

The SNP can, quite rightly, campaign for Independence but will need to revise that into a more long term aim.

Labour must NOT fall into fraternal in-fighting and remain a broad coalition (not a version of the SWP) or it will fail again and, next time, may not be allowed to recover.

The Tories are in turmoil, largely because of their own internal arguments about foreign influence (European and Scottish). I have no advice for them but, God help us, it will still be them negotiating with a well prepared and sceptical coalition of 27 countries, most of whom have little interest in giving a Brexit nation exactly what it wants, no matter how loudly it shouts in English- which has been the main Tory negotiating tactic till now.

Off to work now- while I still have a job.

I don’t think May will risk another election this side of Brexit negotiations being completed. I also don’t think the tories will try to get rid of her,for much the same reason.

This means that a lot of Labour MPs have some real hard thinking to do. They either toe the line, and are SEEN to do so,or their local party will use that time to deselect them and choose another candidate.

Last night, hopefully, was the last throw of the Blairites. They judged everything wrongly.

Mind,if they do get deselected, they can always defect to that mythical new party their hero spoke of forming. I wonder how that’s working out,eh?

As I said earlier, everyone lost last night. But the Blairites possibly more than most. Which is,at least, one minor bonus.

So May needs to do a deal with the DUP who oppose abortion, same sex marriage and reject climate change. All for a majority of a handful. It’s a non starter. May will be gone sooner rather than later and another election held before the end of the year. The big problem is the EU want to stick to the Brexit timetable with talks due to begin in a couple of weeks.
