SFA not caring enough. Morton, ooft.

658

What exactly went wrong at yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw? Plastic balls can break open, that wasn’t the problem. The rule which insists that when a ball breaks open the draw must be started again isn’t the problem either. It’s a perfectly reasonable rule, but the event still can the SFA in a dreadful light.

Imagine for a moment that you had a Cup draw to arrange live on international television. You would surely acquire the materials necessary (8 balls and a bowl), and test their effectiveness (mix the balls, pull them out, open), until you were satisfied the process was robust and not likely to embarrass the organisation.

Appropriate preparations were evidently not followed for the Scottish Cup quarter final draw.

Having got to the stage that the draw went wrong, the TV masses were then treated to the most cringe-worthy pregnant pause, as SFA president, Alan McRae completely failed to communicate, either to the watching TV audience, or to the event broadcaster SKY, why he pulled a ball out of the bowl and instead of announcing the tie, declared the draw invalid.

McRae knew the ball was opened before it was drawn, and that this invalidated the draw, but clearly the glaikit-looking TV presenter had no idea what was going on when McRae halted mid-process, neither did the TV audience. A simple explanation:

“This ball is open. Rules state the draw is invalid. We will need to start again.”

….was surely what any person possessing even remote people-awareness or communication skills would have said?

No explanation was given. We were treated instead to the site of a TV presenter trying in vain to figure out why a cup draw was scratched halfway through.

The role of SFA president requires a degree of communication skills, which Mr McRae was hugely bereft of yesterday.

As for the SFA itself, I went to their official site this morning to check the spelling of McRae’s name, only to find they still list Campbell Ogilvie as president, despite McRae’s appointment 8 months ago.

It beggars belief. They just don’t care enough to get the easy things right.

As for getting Morton at Celtic Park! Ooft.  After Ross County repeating their Hampden trick on us, Morton will fancy the same.

I know many of you have previously supported the fantastic efforts of Bundoran Bhoy. This year he is doing four runs for Solving Kids’ Cancer, in memory of Oscar Knox. His first is the Great Edinburgh (misnomer?) Run in April, the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Glasgow Men’s 10k in June and the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October.

He has just launched his 2016 fundraising efforts, so you can nip in here and encourage him along.

HT – Islam isn’t a race – whether it’s an ideology, a system of governance, or indeed a religion, that is open to interpretation.

If Tommy Robinson is guilty of anything, then it is sectarianism that he is guilty of – and yes, sectarianism is a much more dangerous condition than racism.

Some of his jack boot thugs and followers of the EDL were most definitely racists.

T Boyd and D Hay appointed as club ambassadors. At press conference called to announce this both appear to have been asked to comment on the current manager. TB played enquirer wirh dead bat and basically told press he is our man and entitled to support.

Whether you believe that is the case is irrelevant. That’s what should be told to the scumbag MSM, especially in a Celtic convened press conference.

His hatred of Islam does indeed come under the umbrella of sectarianism. However, I wonder what loveable Tommy’s honest views on black people, Pakistanis, Indians, Poles etc would be. I’m talking honest opinions here J.

I’ve been reading Irish history since I was 15 and did eventually get to a stage where I thought it both necessary and worthwhile to expand my reading material to develop an understanding of the Loyalist/Unionist perspective on the war in Ireland. I’ve now read dozens of books and hundreds of articles to give me greater depth and balance to my knowledge.

Personally, I can see nothing valuable in reading anything written by Robinson.

He’s a divisive, hate filled ned and I’d struggle to believe a word of it.

Anyway my friend, I’m sure, like me, you’d rather be talking about the Celtic. So, let’s leave this for now and we can discuss it at greater length over a dram outside McHuills.

  15. Ronny Deila – not Delia incidentally – knows he has to win the league. The players know it too.

He also has the right to expect our support starting on Saturday. Just as Tom Boyd said today.

Ronny’s first season mirrored Wim Jansen’s. He won the league and league cup with a former midfielder as his assistant.

    Wim walked, Ronny won’t.

Davie Hay outlined what is required from a Celtic manager. We can say it on here until we are blue in the face but when Davie Hay says it, the message gets through. To Ronny and to the players.

Lose the league and you lose your job. It’s that simple.

Ross County are in for a tough afternoon on Saturday. Please be there if you can to support Celtic. It’s going to be exciting.

If anyone has any specific questions for Davie Hay let me know and I will get you an answer.

Islamic jihad is an extremely serious problem which will not go away by ignoring that fact.

Frankly,I don`t care who agrees that it is a fact.

  17. David Hay is an honest forthright man.

His experience of the game is invaluable and his expertise has been ignored by management and board.

    Poor judgement IMHO

  18. Squire Danaher – Thanks gor that!

DD – I am not negative about Celtic, otherwise why would have I actively supported for over forty years.

Let’s say that I am totally perplexed that we don’t get a ‘bigger bang for our £38 million wages buck’

If we had taken our winnable CL oportunities, Ronny would have signed a new 10 year contract by now – as for domestically – of course we won’t win every game but is the way we are playing that niggles me that something is wrong in the football department.

If we could see real progress then the odd defeat, here and there, is of no consequence.

However in tactics, selection and the 23 recruits within Ronny’s tenure, I see no real progress – I desperately want to see us ‘kick-on’ – where is the high-tempo, pressing football that we were promised – if it was there, then even in defeat, I would be relatively content.

  19. WC

What’s the difference between RD having it posted out throughout the entire MSM over the last 10 days that his coat is supposedly on a shaky peg, and Davie Hay telling the world the same at a Celtic-initiated press conference – called to announce him as a Celtic club ambassador (!!!)

Regardless of one’s opinion of RD, there is a time and place for his record to be examined.

I don’t think that time or place is a Celtic press conference and I most certainly don’t think it is appropriate for the manager of OUR CLUB to not only join in with the lynch mob, but to insist on his right to do so in future.

Say what you like about the Huns. We slag them for being thick and blinkered. BThey don’t attack their own and fill the mouths of the MSM.

    Agree completely about TB comments.

However I think TB is a bit more streetwise and cute in how to play the MSM. There are many instances in the past of DH trying to be open and honest with the MSM and, frankly, it biting him on the behind.

Remember the 1986-7 LCF after which he’d willingly join the English League the next day. He was being honest – they had a field day.

A club ambassador is surely paid to back the club. It’s ludicrous for him to openly vent misgivings or speculate in a hostile media on the security of the manager.

If Celtic employees can’t bring themselves to back the manager in a public forum, then they should say nothing at all on the subject.

    Goodnight all.
