SFA not caring enough. Morton, ooft.

658

What exactly went wrong at yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw? Plastic balls can break open, that wasn’t the problem. The rule which insists that when a ball breaks open the draw must be started again isn’t the problem either. It’s a perfectly reasonable rule, but the event still can the SFA in a dreadful light.

Imagine for a moment that you had a Cup draw to arrange live on international television. You would surely acquire the materials necessary (8 balls and a bowl), and test their effectiveness (mix the balls, pull them out, open), until you were satisfied the process was robust and not likely to embarrass the organisation.

Appropriate preparations were evidently not followed for the Scottish Cup quarter final draw.

Having got to the stage that the draw went wrong, the TV masses were then treated to the most cringe-worthy pregnant pause, as SFA president, Alan McRae completely failed to communicate, either to the watching TV audience, or to the event broadcaster SKY, why he pulled a ball out of the bowl and instead of announcing the tie, declared the draw invalid.

McRae knew the ball was opened before it was drawn, and that this invalidated the draw, but clearly the glaikit-looking TV presenter had no idea what was going on when McRae halted mid-process, neither did the TV audience. A simple explanation:

“This ball is open. Rules state the draw is invalid. We will need to start again.”

….was surely what any person possessing even remote people-awareness or communication skills would have said?

No explanation was given. We were treated instead to the site of a TV presenter trying in vain to figure out why a cup draw was scratched halfway through.

The role of SFA president requires a degree of communication skills, which Mr McRae was hugely bereft of yesterday.

As for the SFA itself, I went to their official site this morning to check the spelling of McRae’s name, only to find they still list Campbell Ogilvie as president, despite McRae’s appointment 8 months ago.

It beggars belief. They just don’t care enough to get the easy things right.

As for getting Morton at Celtic Park! Ooft.  After Ross County repeating their Hampden trick on us, Morton will fancy the same.

I know many of you have previously supported the fantastic efforts of Bundoran Bhoy. This year he is doing four runs for Solving Kids’ Cancer, in memory of Oscar Knox. His first is the Great Edinburgh (misnomer?) Run in April, the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Glasgow Men’s 10k in June and the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October.

He has just launched his 2016 fundraising efforts, so you can nip in here and encourage him along.

Completely off topic stream of consciousness thought to share by way of straw poll around the country…..

Was at my local Indian restaurant take away last week. Guy tells me he shutting the business but will re open as a takeaway only nearby.

He then tells me 5000 Indian restaurants closed down in UK over the last 3 years. He reckons Indian restaurants will be a rarity in a few years.

    Personally this is devastating news.

He explained to me that Indian restaurants tend to be family businesses. He said Children in these families now achieving highly in education and are not attracted to the notion of hard work in a kitchen or front of house.. So there is a major skills deficit.

Any other areas seeing a down turn in Indian restaurants ?

As I say this is a disaster in my opinion. Love a curry!

You should be grateful you have a choice of Indian curry houses, the nearest one to me is an hours drive, and it’s no the may west, I have to go another 20 mins for a decent one.

  6. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I read James Forrest’s Celtic blog earlier about the crowd at our game this Saturday, standing up in the ninth minute in support of Griff in relation the twitter comments about his children.

It would be great if most of us do this for Leigh on Saturday.

Well done Tom Boyd on his earlier comments supporting Ronny and sticking up for our team. He will have even less oppurtunity of media work now but he will still have his integrity. The media are going into overdrive, as if they need an invitation to do it, about our team.

For years we have had the stories of our top players and managers leaving to satisfy the unwritten rule in SMSM, bad stories about us and good news about the two clubs that have played out of Ibrox, sells more. Some of them hide behind this unwritten rule to satisfy their contempt for our team.

Lennybhoy, wonderful post about the late St John Doyle.

  7. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

    RIP St John Doyle.

On football matters, whilst I could never join the Masons (Mother Lodge in home town ) or the Conservative club ( home town pre marriage ) I have no problems with Masons or Tories who follow the Celtic even onto the board. We are a club open to ALL. On EPL footie on tv , I watch a lot of games in my local in Spain and I am astounded at how English supporters ONLY watch their own team and walk out or come as appropriate. Funny folk the English!!

The big question is will the new Indian retain the history of the old Indian and if so I would take a table and chair and demand to eat your takeaway inside :-)

Take on board your comments, but Davie is giving his honest view on the manager. I would hate him to be not given the freedom of speech although from what you say he could perhaps have framed his answer better. I do not however see this any different from the board removing Ronnie in the next two weeks or indeed at the end of the season after us winning the league.

We are at stick or twist, IMO as I am not convinced Ronnie will learn and progress for many reasons, in Europe.

If secret organisations are above board.

    Why all the secrecy then?

There’s having an opinion and there’s emptying your bowel on your host’s carpet.

IMO Davie Hay can say and think what he likes, in his own time.

I am disappointed he filled the mouths of the enemies of the club whilst on club business and I would compare and contrast his comments with those of Tommy Boyd.

The feelings of many on RD’s failings or shortcomings are well known. FWIW I agree with DH on the limitations of the manager.

I would not have filled the mouths of the enemies of the club by giving them publicity, he must be an idiot if he didn’t realise that’s how his comments would be spun.

Moreover I would not have done so whilst in club business and as a paid employee of the club.

    Hope this clarifies my position.

Not the lottery numbers, nothing to do with Lost but rather the squad numbers of the 10 outfield Liverpool players this evening.

Not sure that the FA Cup is their prime priority. Although they’re doing pretty well so far away to West Ham. Goalless after 35.

  22. Always wondered why the blazers never used the lotto machine system for the draws .surely if it was secure and fair enough for making a 66 MILLION POUND DRAW it could be used to draw football games , but then again that way they cant get their grubby paws on it . With regards the media they get away with it because celtic fc let them get away with it . It should have been dealt with long long ago .

I think Davie Hay loves our club ,sees what he considers to be a significant problem and considers it to be his duty to raise his concerns about that issue.

As do many on this blog and as do a number of high profile Celtic supporters and former players.

I would make no comment about the venue he chose, however if you can`t raise your concerns amongst friends, where can you raise them?

Jobo, two of our German opponents in the last thirty years, Stuttgat and Dortmund , are on BT Europe the now, in a German cup tie.

Very good atmosphere inside the ground and the game getting played in conditions similar to your weather report this morning.

I have seen supporters of each of the above teams at our games in the past plus about fifty Stuttgart fans outside Bairds the last time they ever played the now defunct club .

  25. Dallas Dallas…

My time on the TV is almost up as Mrs Baldie’s about to take control.

  26. Hello out there, the is is Mardi Gras , Fat Tuesday or Pancake/ Shrove Tuesday. As Lent starts tomorrow I am having a nice drop of cider and some Lindt chocolate. No more of that for six and a half weeks.

I will also be doing a two day per week skip lunch during Lent and the £5 will go to Mary’s Meals, any body want to join in? I cannot be bothered doing the Just Giving stuff but understand that if we say on here we will do it, then the punishment for failing to comply will be eternal shame.

Go on, £10 per week during Lent for a good cause..

Hopefully, you don’t go from watching a game in London’s east end to watching the most depressing place in the above area.
