SFA not caring enough. Morton, ooft.

658

What exactly went wrong at yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw? Plastic balls can break open, that wasn’t the problem. The rule which insists that when a ball breaks open the draw must be started again isn’t the problem either. It’s a perfectly reasonable rule, but the event still can the SFA in a dreadful light.

Imagine for a moment that you had a Cup draw to arrange live on international television. You would surely acquire the materials necessary (8 balls and a bowl), and test their effectiveness (mix the balls, pull them out, open), until you were satisfied the process was robust and not likely to embarrass the organisation.

Appropriate preparations were evidently not followed for the Scottish Cup quarter final draw.

Having got to the stage that the draw went wrong, the TV masses were then treated to the most cringe-worthy pregnant pause, as SFA president, Alan McRae completely failed to communicate, either to the watching TV audience, or to the event broadcaster SKY, why he pulled a ball out of the bowl and instead of announcing the tie, declared the draw invalid.

McRae knew the ball was opened before it was drawn, and that this invalidated the draw, but clearly the glaikit-looking TV presenter had no idea what was going on when McRae halted mid-process, neither did the TV audience. A simple explanation:

“This ball is open. Rules state the draw is invalid. We will need to start again.”

….was surely what any person possessing even remote people-awareness or communication skills would have said?

No explanation was given. We were treated instead to the site of a TV presenter trying in vain to figure out why a cup draw was scratched halfway through.

The role of SFA president requires a degree of communication skills, which Mr McRae was hugely bereft of yesterday.

As for the SFA itself, I went to their official site this morning to check the spelling of McRae’s name, only to find they still list Campbell Ogilvie as president, despite McRae’s appointment 8 months ago.

It beggars belief. They just don’t care enough to get the easy things right.

As for getting Morton at Celtic Park! Ooft.  After Ross County repeating their Hampden trick on us, Morton will fancy the same.

I know many of you have previously supported the fantastic efforts of Bundoran Bhoy. This year he is doing four runs for Solving Kids’ Cancer, in memory of Oscar Knox. His first is the Great Edinburgh (misnomer?) Run in April, the Edinburgh Marathon in May, Glasgow Men’s 10k in June and the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October.

He has just launched his 2016 fundraising efforts, so you can nip in here and encourage him along.

  1. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

I’d nominate Auld Bertie to be a fan rep on the Board- he could buy and sell Dermott Desmondo…

    He’d stratify the stadium..

Corporate boxes only to be occupied by Oil and Gas personnel.. Top tiers for incomes of sub £20k.. Main stand incomes of £100k+ ( excluding bonuses)…

Special section for public sector workers ( restricted views) and a standing area for any voluntary/ 3 RD sector workers..and so on….

End of Season Half time executions for any Board dissenters – carried out by TD67…that would fill the stadium

Yes, DH was always too frank for his own good. However I would’ve thought he’d have had more sense at his age stuck in front of a camera asked about an under fire manager.

The notion of a former club manager, who is again a current employee, slagging off the current manager at a club-organised press conference and demanding the right to continue to do so in future is breathtaking as much for its effrontery as its stupidity.

A wise ould diehard Celtic fan named Jimmy Reilly once admonished a company I was part of in the Grove Bar Kelvingrove St, one night back in the dark days of the early 1990s.

He told us NEVER criticise the club in front of THEMs, because they love it.

CFC have invested very well for the club, all you have to do is have a look at the place when you walk in from London RD. It’s a fantastic site to behold, as good an arena as any in Europe without a doubt, but that just appeared no work was put into that, it was as expected? Talk about ungrateful

Talk about ungrateful? It was the Celtic support that paid for the stadium Tony. So the person you accuse of being ungrateful actually shares responsibility for it being build, and for it being maintained.

I realise this doesn’t fit with your narrative, but it’s the case. It is you who should be grateful to your fellow Celtic fans Tony.

On a more general point – I’d like to once again challenge this ‘Celtic are a club open to all’ hippy dippy nonsense. Open to all are we? Nick Griffin? Jim Torbett? Tommy Robinson? Seriously? We, as a club, stand for so little that the gate to entry is set at zero?

Not for me it isn’t. Celtic were set up with the express intention of helping the poor. Celtic wasn’t set up as a tax dodge for a venture capitalist dog. Nor was it set up as a haven for oppressors of the people like “Lord” Livingston – The Earl of Lithgow. Celtic was set up to protect and stand up the poorest, most vulnerable in society. So whilst all of the ‘Everyone should loves us! Please love us!’ brigade bang on about business acumen and millionaires like their positive traits in psychopaths, it’s not for me. The club I love has standards. And values. If you know your history – You’ll know that Celtic is the antithesis of a ‘club for all’. We’re more than club. More than a set of strips. Or at least we used to be, before we recognised our ‘betters’.

Rod might sell the jerseys, but socialism is the heart of the club. Whichever oppressive charlatan owns the shares. If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.
