The SFA surprised many by refusing Mike Ashley permission to buy up to 29.9% of a second club. As I said earlier in the week, don’t get too hung up on this one. Ashley could play The Offshore Game, like the anonymised Blue Pitch or Margarita, or he could just do what he’s already done, ignore the SFA and underwrite the share issue anyway. What would the SFA do?
Well, they could impose the ultimate sanction, but that’s unlikely. They could impose a heavy point penalty, enough to ensure the club are not promoted this season, and refuse to register signings of players older than 21-years.
It’s perhaps more likely that Ashley will loan the money required in return for whatever assets are left. Oldco went out of business a few months after they were sold to a liquidation expert. The path newco will follow down the lavvy will be different. Like any other squeezed business, they will redeem assets, sell the training fields, and the stadium, before putting themselves into the hands of a liquidator.
As for long-term financial viability, does anyone think this looks likely?

There will be a share issue for existing shareholders,Mike is not taking part and neither will his dwindling minions,the share issue will take place and Mike will automatically lose control of the Board and Rangers, there is absolutely nothing he can do about it this time.
A consortium of Rangers shareholders will invest 8 million and replace most if not all of the Board,and will have no need of Mike’s loans,they have their own money.
The SD contract will be renegotiated or terminated,and Mike will sell his shares and leave not giving a monkeys,water off a duck’s back.
Why you may ask am i so certain,and the answer is he has no option,there is no alternative and this week has been an unmitigated disaster in every way,it began with Ally,moved onto a terrible AGM,burst into flames with a leaked email and ended with the SFA giving him the thumbs down.
Mike’s tanks are surrounded by angry shareholders,supporters and SFA officials,not even he can win this battle,and billionaires don’t chase lost causes,he is now in damage limitation mode.
Mike doesn’t have the votes to do anything even if he wanted to,and has lost the support of wavering shareholders and supporters,it really really is all over,there is no point in taking on the SFA without any support and after the share issue Rangers won’t need his money.
I announced the takeover of Rangers by Mike as great news,it is better news now he is gone,Rangers will be owned and run by Rangers men just as the fans had hoped,they got there eventually,hats off the chap who risked legal action in leaking the email,it was the final straw.
No one needs reminded football is not life and death,and neither is internet blogging,hope everyone enjoys Christmas and stays healthy.

As Paul says it’s all so much more than just supporting the hoops.
I speak from personal experience of this spirit in action. I don’t know if anyone remembers but last xmas I was at a really low ebb. A lonely wreck,in despair and in a bottle. I posted on this wonderful blog and my celtic family rallied round as only they can. They dragged me through with their compassion and encouragement. I say to anyone out there in the same place,try it,post on here they’re your family after all
I thank ghod that I found this special place.
