SFA, The Offshore Game, flogging assets

616

The SFA surprised many by refusing Mike Ashley permission to buy up to 29.9% of a second club.  As I said earlier in the week, don’t get too hung up on this one.  Ashley could play The Offshore Game, like the anonymised Blue Pitch or Margarita, or he could just do what he’s already done, ignore the SFA and underwrite the share issue anyway.  What would the SFA do?

Well, they could impose the ultimate sanction, but that’s unlikely.  They could impose a heavy point penalty, enough to ensure the club are not promoted this season, and refuse to register signings of players older than 21-years.

It’s perhaps more likely that Ashley will loan the money required in return for whatever assets are left.  Oldco went out of business a few months after they were sold to a liquidation expert.  The path newco will follow down the lavvy will be different.  Like any other squeezed business, they will redeem assets, sell the training fields, and the stadium, before putting themselves into the hands of a liquidator.

As for long-term financial viability, does anyone think this looks likely?

Sheil Yerbouti, Kelvin Wilson wasn’t at his best in his first season but was very good in his second season. He was great in the Barca game at Celtic Park.

One of his last games was the second leg of the Cliftonville game at Celtic Park. The players must have known he was going as they kept on trying to set him up for a goal and at points, played as an extra forward such was his enthusiasm to score.

  5. Pf -re Denayer his foot got stamped on at game at park head and went straight off -must have been worse than initially thought -I would have expected him back sooner also hh

I see Kelvin Wilson is yet another one who has improved tremendously in his absence.

And don`t quote me Derk as proof that this is not always the case. He is the equivalent of

` these things even themselves out`.

  13. Kelvin Wilson was poor in his first season but good in his second.

At the time that he left I’d much preferred for him to have stayed but it was clear he wanted the move.

Jungle Jim, I wanted shot of Kelvin Wilson after the Hearts semi final in 2012 when he needlessly gave away possession in the lead up to their first goal.

He was no world beater but was a hell of a lot better in his second season than in his first.

As Jimmy Greaves would say its a funny old game, we all watch the same games but have different opinions on how individual players have played.

Celtic are 1/6 against an SPFL Premier League team tomorrow but only 1/2 in the League Cup against a team 12 points behind the leaders in the second tier. Does playing at Hampden really have such an adverse effect on our ability?

I’m sure that was the case. I did hear that Lenny wanted to keep him but that Wilson himself was keen to be back closer to his roots.

  17. Neil Lennon was another that was viewed as not good enough for us at times.

Nice to see him doing well with Bolton…..

    Played 12

    Won 7

    Drew 3

    Lost 2

Going to be interesting to see if he gets to sign anyone in the next few weeks and if he can keep that form going, because he could take them from a relegation spot into the promotion battle.

  18. Jungle jim.

The odds on that game are tremendous.

    2/1 on.
