SFL is over but still busy times

921

The Scottish Football League programme is now finished with only play-offs still to complete but there is still a great deal of business to complete.  The remarkable persistence of First Division clubs to find a financial model which will allow them to retain full time football shows no sign of ending, despite the difficulties presented from a couple of quarters.

Meanwhile the Third Division champions have even more pressing matters.  They have now finished their league programme and can now officially be told what they have perhaps unofficially suspected for some weeks.  Charles Green has agreed to remain a director until the end of this month.  Before he goes the ownership of Ibrox, as well as the appropriateness of the club’s IPO in December, will need to be established.  They have a three week window but nothing happens until the lawyers report, which I expect this week.

It was two years ago today Sir David Murray took a £1 payment and relieved himself of outstanding commitments to Lloyds Banking Group, the legacy of his time at Rangers.  The support Craig Whyte received at critical times in the months which followed was breath-taking.  Every hack, side-kick, and numpty ‘fan’ who told the rest to set aside all common sense deserve a medal for what they did to that club.

They don’t even understand the mock-worship Celtic fans offer Whyte is a parody on where they were 2011-12.

  1. Stories of Willie Wallace

66/67 I was member of British Merchant Navy, (old timers will remember we had a merchant fleet). Sailing around South America for 5 months getting results on BBC world service. Storeman on board was a jam tart and for months every Saturday we got results “Aye another goal for Wullie Wallace.

Scottish Cup final was first game we got full commentary! Wullie Wallace had been playing for us for 5 months!!.

Only saw Lisbon on TV but by that time was only Scotsman on board had great time telling the English “We are CHAMPIONS of Europe” Happy days

  2. Tricoloured Ribbon, A gang of us from Clonmel have close connections with a bunch from the Ardoyne, we have been up there and they have been down here. Last time up we had a mighty session in the Kickhams Club. They organised a special visit to the H Blocks for us, everywhere we went cars & drivers appeared as of out of nowhere and ferried us to different places, no one would accept any payment. We were taken to the Roddy McCorley Club, as I said to The Maze, to some crazy pubs, The Kickhams, next day we were brought cross-Country, to Antrim stopped in about 5 different pubs with a session in each at various villages between there and Maghera in Derry. Great guys, the Barney lad I refer too would only be about 5ft tall but he is some character, a lot of the other lads would be fairly high profile names that you would know but don’t want to mention them online.

    The Rhythm Of Time

There’s an inner thing in every man,

Do you know this thing my friend?

It has withstood the blows of a million years,

And will do so to the end.

It was born when time did not exist,

And it grew up out of life,

It cut down evil’s strangling vines,

    Like a slashing searing knife.

It lit fires when fires were not,

And burnt the mind of man,

    Tempering leandened hearts to steel,

From the time that time began.

It wept by the waters of Babylon,

And when all men were a loss,

    It screeched in writhing agony,

And it hung bleeding from the Cross.

It died in Rome by lion and sword,

    And in defiant cruel array,

When the deathly word was ‘Spartacus’

    Along with Appian Way.

It marched with Wat the Tyler’s poor,

    And frightened lord and king,

And it was emblazoned in their deathly stare,

    As e’er a living thing.

    It smiled in holy innocence,

    Before conquistadors of old,

So meek and tame and unaware,

Of the deathly power of gold.

It burst forth through pitiful Paris streets,

    And stormed the old Bastille,

And marched upon the serpent’s head,

And crushed it ‘neath its heel.

It died in blood on Buffalo Plains,

And starved by moons of rain,

Its heart was buried in Wounded Knee,

But it will come to rise again.

It screamed aloud by Kerry lakes,

As it was knelt upon the ground,

And it died in great defiance,

As they coldly shot it down.

It is found in every light of hope,

It knows no bounds nor space

It has risen in red and black and white,

It is there in every race.

It lies in the hearts of heroes dead,

    It screams in tyrants’ eyes,

It has reached the peak of mountains high,

It comes searing ‘cross the skies.

It lights the dark of this prison cell,

    It thunders forth its might,

It is ‘the undauntable thought’, my friend,

That thought that says ‘I’m right! ‘

    Happy birthday Paul 67,

You will soon be old enough not to be asked for proof of age in the pub, but in the interim you should market that anti wrinkle cream you presumably use!

On Wispy, a brief mention of Quizball in the book but also mention of other trophies won and a big section on Dukla Prague.

Also the odd mention of escapes from Seamill, golf bandits, and the incredible eyesight of Jimmy Johnstone who could spot a blonde in the crowd in the middle of the game!

  8. Freddiebhoy on

    Happy Birthday Paul67!

Hopefully more revelations concerning the tribute act in Govan coming out later this week.

  9. Help please

With an acute shortage of priests in our rural diocese the laity have been asked for our thoughts regarding a possible solution. Does anyone know if it is possible to do a closed TV broadcast simultaneously to three or four other churches?

  10. macanbheatha, The Barney I was on about is a different man, did you spend some time in the H Blocks yourself. Must say the visit made the hair stand on the back of my neck. In particular the visit to the Prison “Hospital”.

  11. Give us a waaave, give us a waaave, Peter Latchford, Peter Latchford, give us a waaave , give us a waaave , Peter Latchford.

    Hooray.

As a small bhoy , I loved that.

Swear I could feel the ground thunder as big Peter swapped ends before the game started.

Loved his 1 hand up , big smile and nod of the head at the final whistle when we beat the Orcs in the 80 final.
