SFL is over but still busy times

921

The Scottish Football League programme is now finished with only play-offs still to complete but there is still a great deal of business to complete.  The remarkable persistence of First Division clubs to find a financial model which will allow them to retain full time football shows no sign of ending, despite the difficulties presented from a couple of quarters.

Meanwhile the Third Division champions have even more pressing matters.  They have now finished their league programme and can now officially be told what they have perhaps unofficially suspected for some weeks.  Charles Green has agreed to remain a director until the end of this month.  Before he goes the ownership of Ibrox, as well as the appropriateness of the club’s IPO in December, will need to be established.  They have a three week window but nothing happens until the lawyers report, which I expect this week.

It was two years ago today Sir David Murray took a £1 payment and relieved himself of outstanding commitments to Lloyds Banking Group, the legacy of his time at Rangers.  The support Craig Whyte received at critical times in the months which followed was breath-taking.  Every hack, side-kick, and numpty ‘fan’ who told the rest to set aside all common sense deserve a medal for what they did to that club.

They don’t even understand the mock-worship Celtic fans offer Whyte is a parody on where they were 2011-12.

BMCUW – rumour has it, he was so spaced out on opiates that he was letting all sorts of vagrants into his house! A real cause for concern….! :-)

Very glad, but not surprised, to hear your sesh went well. I was gutted to miss it, but looking forward to the CSA Rally, where a few “esteemed posters” will be in attendance.

Was it on a celtic tv interview that WW said when he spun away to celebrate scoring against the dead club just as he turned he looked up and seen his family in RW&B none to pleased :)).

Then when asked about celtic he said it doesn,t matter what you are when you come here once here you soon become a member of the celtic family.

I may be mixing interview up with someone else or it may have been against hearts but think im right, not often but can remember watching and saying “well said sir”.

  5. Tricoloured Ribbon,

funny that i was actually born in ardoyne but lived in ballymurphy most of my life, that’s were my dad came from ardoyne.

  6. Happy Birthday Paul,

  7. BRTH,

Don’t know if it’s in the book, but do you remember the other trophy Celtic won in 1967? Or rather Jim Craig won it!

It was the TV team quiz. Can’t remember the name.

Willie Wallace was asked ‘What is a garryowen in sport?

Willie answered a ‘racing tipster.’ The DR has such a tipster called Garry Owen.

Hope you enjoyed lunch. Prior to John Carrigan buying the pub it was called The Barley Bree and was a proper haunt of the orcs. Carrigan has done some missionary work there. ;-)

    Happy birthday.

  12. How Big Jock outwitted the Huns (would not have been hard!) and signed ‘Wispy’.

Willie was keen to move away from Hearts, and Rangers were known to be interested. Then, on December 6, with Rangers in Germany in the ECWC, Jock Stein struck and Willie signed for Celtic for a club record £30,000. Stein was delighted and stated that Celtic had signed a one man forward line who could play in any of the five forward positions and also, on occasions, at right half.

William Dalrymple’s book “From the Holy Mountain” possibly a bit dated now but interesting read on how traces of Christianity are disappearing throughout the Middle East, indigenous Christian populations have been persecuted, ignored and many of them are emigrating.

Think it was quiz ball and presented by stuart hall – the contestant would choose route 1,2,3 or 4 to score a goal. Route 1 was a difficult question (Jim Craig special) route 4was 4 easy questions.

  23. Auldheid

I vividly remember the other Wispy goal v Dukla . It was right in front of me. A free-kick at the right of the box .Bertie Auld ran up as if to chip it to the far post but at the last second he stopped and bent down as if to reposition the ball and in one movement he deftly tapped it sideways to an on-rushing Willie Wallace who blootered it into the net.

  25. Twitter.

1/6 Completely forgot to update RFFF news…Glasgow Council admit they’ve never been asked nor given licence for street collections by RFFF.

2/6 That licence is mandatory and to collect without is breach of law.

OSCR & Glasgow Council have both washed their hands, stating its…

3/6 …not their responsibility to enforce law even tho OSCR regulates charities & GCC regulates street collections…

4/6 Instead they refer me to Police Scotland. Not a bad idea except PS have so far not even acknowledged any communication on the matter.

5/6 Not only that but, even tho they are legally responsible for licencing,…

6/6 …and have had the matter drawn to their attention for over 8 months, GCC have not contacted Police Scotland. Strange, eh?

  26. I gather from the previous page it’s Paul’s birthday.

Happy Birthday host and many more to follow.

I was at the 90th birthday of a great old Celt on Saturday. I hope you pass his landmark.

  27. some interesting tweets from @corsica1968 re.the rfff collection and non licence..the council and OSCR seemed to have washed their hands of the matter as it is unlawfull to collect moneys in public without permission from relevant authorities..they’ve refered him to police scotland who so far have not had it reported by city council…8months ago..mmmmm
