Georgios, “I’ll have two goals in the first half”.

No matter what Celtic’s objectives for tonight are, to keep things decent, or to overcome an enormous deficit, priority no. 1 will be to protect Fraser Forster’s goal as much as possible.  Juventus scored three goals at Celtic Park while making sure Celtic players were denied daylight in front of goal.

We also have to keep 11 men on the park.  Manchester United went out of Europe last night in part because they went down to 10 men, but also because Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t produce an effective way to protect his lead with 1 men until it was too late.  If anyone is red carded, let’s make sure he is wearing black and white.  Indiscipline from the home team offers our only opportunity of making a contest of the tie.

Charlie Mulgew is lacking match fitness and would be an enormous risk, no matter how key to our European game-plan he is.  Georgios Samaras is the player European scouts all go home talking about after watching Celtic.  He is the archetypal European player and could extend his already-record-breaking scoring run away from home in Europe tonight.  Don’t bet against him.

Our full backs will be key.  Emilio Izaguirre played his best game for Celtic in the first leg but has been far less convincing since.  It is time for the Honduran to demonstrate his full potential on the big stage.  Adam Matthews has impressed since arriving at the club and I fully expect he will mature before your eyes tonight.

One or two Celtic players have declined new contracts in the hope of attracting some of the silly money available elsewhere.  Producing at the Juventus Stadium might convince some they are worth the trouble. This is no reference to Photogenic Georgio, b.t.w., he’s here for keeps!

The Twists & Turns Celtic Supporters Club is holding a charity night at the Supporters’ Association Club on London Road, this Friday, 8 March, at 7.30pm.  There will be Question and Answer session with me, John Fallon, Dixie Deans, Archie MacPherson, compared by Phil Agnew.  Afterwards you can enjoy music from Foggy Dew.

Tickets are £10 and you can get them from Phil by calling 07811 178764, or email me your numer and I’ll pass it on (celticquicknews@gmail.com).  Profits are going to the Tommy Burns charity.

I’ve been to a few nights with John, Dixie, Archie and Phil and they are always fantastic Celtic occasions, so get yourself a ticket.  See you there.

  3. infact i would be delighted just to give juve a moment of uncertainty tonight….take the lead at any point in the first 75 mins…just give them a mere moment of doubt….that would do me

  6. Think it would be a bad move for him. Coventry on the brink of administration.

Falkirk have confirmed that boss Steven Pressley has been given permission to hold talks with Coventry City over the vacant manager’s job at the Ricoh Arena.

  7. Anyway leaving aside all negativity connected with Sevco, Nimmo-Smith, Campbell Ogilvie, Sandy Bryson, Challs etc let us hope that we can rise to new heights tonight and register a victory in Turin.

Just getting to the last 16 has been a surprise and an adventure so tonight I hope we play football the ‘Glasgow Celtic Way’ Good luck Celts. HH.

  12. I am always optimistic but cannot see us going through tonight. Give us a performance Bhoys and an away goal or two.

Do not think Juve will press for anymore goals and it could be a poor game. Hope we come away with at least a draw and can hold our heads up high.

………… thought it was a ‘Holy Picture’ – will be if he scores a hat-trick tonight!

  14. This is March and still in the Champs league – well some are champs anyway – who would have believed it when the team set out on a 12 game odyssey way back in sunny July. Some wondrous results and entertainment and the team deserves all the plaudits and let’s hope for another great performance to-night in Turin. I almost forgot to mention the club has made a nice pile of money in this competition. Come on the HOOPS.

Is a High Court Judge qualified to say whether or not a team gained a “sporting advantage” ? He might not know one end of a ball from another.

Doesn’t look like Turin a dry area for fans going by Rumour Bagwash’s report.

  17. Good evening all.

In the unlikely event, where are we all heading at 10.00?

  18. Move on……..what does that mean ? And who is supposed to move on ?

Does it mean ……give in and allow RFC to be fast tracked into a higher league

Does it mean…..accept the propaganda version that Rangers did nothing wrong and were victims

Does it mean …… HMRC should give up with their appeal

Does it mean……The rest of us should go back to sitting at the back of the bus, and allow the old ways of doing this to be reinstated

Does it mean……Staying silent whilst Rangers supporters fill all key positions in Scottish Football. SFA presidents and CEO’s, SPL Chairmen, Heads of referee’s and National Team Managers

Does it mean …… Meek acquiescence of National broadcasters and newspapers bias

We have moved on in some of these area’s. It’s not a given in some area’s that being a Rangers supporter is a prerequisite to influence and authority.

However the role played by Ogilvie and Bryson undermines any chance to move on. The apparent lack of desire to take action against the most toxic individual in Scottish Football history, David Murray, also throws a huge shadow over our national game.

The lack of any kind of will to tackle the divisive and walter mitty like outpourings of Charles Green, allied to the cowardice in tackling large scale outbreaks of sectarian and offensive singing , also suggests little has changed in these area’s. This doesn’t just apply to Rangers, however they are clearly the club with by far the biggest problem

So to those who say move on…..lets see some action on all of the above , and then come back and ask about moving on. In the meantime we’ll just keep on doing what we’ve been doing these last few years. Because if we stop, then based on past history we go back cover up and deals in the back rooms at Hampden, all aimed at supplementing one clubs sense of entitlement
