  1. Correct GG.

However they are in a hiatus, a vacuum, like the rest of us., wondering what the future holds.

Btw IMO, the Sun interview was the SSM denouement. I suspect he is in the departure lounge. I may be wrong, but it is the only sense I could make of a nonsensical situation….

    Canamalar,

Appreciate your input earlier. I am no Zionist but I try to have some balance about a complicated debate. Unfortunately there have been some racist comments made about people from Israel. Nir Bitton and the rest of the people from there deserve better. Cheers.

    Beefy..,

You’ll have no problem providing evidence of the racist comments you claim were made ?

  4. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Keeping in mind that there are many different races inhabiting “Israel” and that not all Jewish people are of a single race.

  5. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Beefy..,

No need to scroll back, there was no racism for the simple reason I stated.

    Canamalar,

Lets be honest, there are a lot of b*stards from the extreme left and right who hate Jews. Contrary to what you suggested earlier, I would read some books which you suggested but I won’t read books from Jew haters. All the best anyway.

I am ambivalent about all of the Scottish media.

I assume the Record was being punished for their story re safe standing.

The Sun was chosen probably because of its circulation numbers.

How many on London Road read the Herald or the Scotsman.

It was a PR own goal and the message we have seen wasn’t worth the loss of respect.

I would have preferred a prepared statement, it wasn’t an interview, to alternative media with representatives from CQN, Huddleboard, Phil and some other chosen bampots from Celtic cyberspace.

But I suppose it wouldn’t get the same audience?

How many Celtic fans frequent places like this?

What proportion are familiar with Res12 or the work of James Forrest?

Some savvy media types need to whisper in the CEO’s shell like lug holes.

I did not recommend any books, either from the left or right, I don’t even know why right or left are even being introduced to the discussion.

    Spot on.

Spent many’s a year in the Middle East. There will be no peace until the Arabs/Palestinians appreciate the horrors of the holocaust and the psyche of the Jews thereafter likewise until the Jews understand the cause of the ethnically cleansed and homeless Palestinian Arabs .

  11. Captain Beefheart on

Canamalar, apologies if I misrepresented you (long day at work for me) but I thought you mentioned books to me in a previous reply.

The Middle East doesn’t particularly interest me so I cannot suggest any books but I welcome any suggestions from other people here.

  12. Canamalar

    Keep it lit.

When I first arrived in NYC I attended Israel day parades. The vitriol against a minority of Jewish women expressing support for Palestinians was violent, physically so. As is the vitriol against hassidic Jews who gather in their thousands to protest the legitimacy of the Israeli state.

It was strange to me, uneducated as I was when I first arrived here… Many Jews in NYC are not supportive of The state of Israel. But US politicians and media are.

Look at the number of politicians in the US who hold high office who have dual citizenship with US and Israel. Look at the influence of AIPAC. This feeds anti semitism, erroneously and unfortunately. A perplexing issue for Jews and Gentiles alike. We are forced into a machine.

The reality is many, if not most NYC Jews are ‘liberals’ who disagree with the actions of Israel, and are just as frustrated with the Media and politicians who are in full support. Weird but true. True, Republican Jews support Israeli actions, but Jewish democrats, generally do not.

It is a conundrum as perplexing as we find the small matter of Fitba and media in Scotland.

The media feeds the divide and rule, and sets the agenda. Same as it ever was.

    Off to bed…

  13. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Beefy..,

Knowing exactly what you are talking about and the potential for offence and how easily some take and look for offence on this subject I would only ever recommend books written by Jewish writers, it would be pointless to suggest writers of any other religion.

  14. A book on the Middle East I would recommend to anyone is

From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman.

It covers his years as NY Times foreign correspondent in Beirut and then In Jerusalem.

It will not provide solutions to the complex issues of all the factions involved but may help any reader to better understand the reasons for the intransigence on both sides.

It’s a well written and always fascinating account of his time in Beirut during the civil war and subsequent posting in Jerusalem.

For anyone who wants to know the background to the present day impasse, this book provides a knowledgeable first hand insight into both the multiple Arab factions and Israeli physche and will ultimately leave you bewildered, confused and in despair of any future resolution.

  15. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Not making excuses for the manager, players or anyone else, but credit to St.Johnstone – they were a well-organised defensive unit.

Absolute nightmare to try to break down.

At one stage well into the game, Celtic had 87% of the possession fs.

One of two decent performances, Erik as usual, also Janko if he can stay clear of injury is going to be a good addition to the team.

Well done to LG, he deserved to hit that milestone – Brilliant achievement.

God bless wee Emilio, and good luck for the future to the wee legend and his family.

  16. Before I go to bed….

Friedman is a NY Times neocon in parallel with Keith Jackson. He is a liberal ‘wolf’ in sheeps clothing who advocated not only the overthrow of Sadda Hussein, but that free market global capitalism was the way to go…. Before the so called credit crisis of 2008.

His book The World is Flat illustrates , restrospectively, how wrong he was.

Sorry GG but that needed to be said…

    IMO of course.

John Pilger is far more substantive. Or

Robert Frisk (who admittedly can be a tad full of himself) who has lived and breathed the region for decades.

Friedman? A corporate sell out. And he sells very well to a certain demographic… As his publishers will agree.

  17. 16 Roads

A book on the Middle East I would recommend to anyone is

From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman.

    ==================================================================

    Ca` canny , `GG .

Friedman is Jewish.[3] He attended Hebrew school five days a week until his Bar Mitzvah,[4] then St. Louis Park High School, where he wrote articles for his school’s newspaper.[5] He became enamored of Israel after a visit there in December 1968, and he spent all three of his high school summers living on Kibbutz HaHotrim, near Haifa.[6] He has characterized his high school years as “one big celebration of Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War.”[6]

  19. PJB

    Before I go to bed.

The book was first published I believe in 1989/90.

I first read it in 94,

Whatever Freidman’s present day philosophies are, the book does provide on the ground details of day to day dealings with the various warring factions in Beirut and the tragedies he experienced.

On the Jerusalem assignment he has little or no aympathy with the Israeli government. I can’t remember who was in power at that times.

His personal insights and experiences provide good perspectives on the differing disruptive forces at work in this ancient conflict, and as such should be viewed as an insightful account of the mindsets involved.

After reading some of the posts on here I may go back for a refresher look.

  20. Macjay

I care not a jot for Friedman’s religion or for his perceived leanings.

The book is not a whitewash of Israeli policies.

For me, and remember I had spent the best part of a decade in and traveling the Arab world, the biggest takeaway was the complexity of relations in the Arab world, and the impossibility of finding an equitable resolution, which confirmed some of my personal experiences.

  21. Football quotes, misquotes and bloopers

    Did they really say that!

“Barcelona… a club with a stadium that seats 120,000 people. And they’re all here in Newcastle tonight!”

“Ronaldo is always very close to being either onside or offside.”

“We were a little bit outnumbered there, it was two against two.”

“Julian Dicks is everywhere, it’s like they’ve got eleven Dicks on the field.”

“If England are going to win this match, they’re going to have to score a goal.”

“You weigh up the pros and cons and try to put them into chronological order.”

“Robert Lee was able to do some running on his groin for the first time.”

“I never comment on referees and I’m not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat.

“I’m not a believer in luck but I do believe you need it.”

“What will you do when you leave football, Jack… will you stay in football?”

“Unfortunately, we keep kicking ourselves in the foot.”

“Celtic were at one time nine points ahead, but somewhere along the road, their ship went off the rails.”

“I’ve got a gut feeling in my stomach…”

“The new West Stand casts a giant shadow over the entire pitch, even on a sunny day”

“I would not say he [David Ginola] is the best left-winger in the Premiership, but there are none better.”

“Johnson has revelled in the ‘hole’ behind Dwight Yorke…”

“An inch or two either side of the post and that would have been a goal.”

“Both sides have scored a couple of goals, and both sides have conceded a couple of goals.”

“You don’t score 64 goals in 86 games at the highest level without being able to score goals.”

“What’s it like being in Bethlehem, the place where Christmas began? I suppose it’s like seeing Ian
Wright at Arsenal…”

“And we all know that in football if you stand still you go backwards…”

“I was saying the other day, how often the most vulnerable area for goalies isbetween their
legs …

“The lad got over-excited when he saw the whites of the goal post’s eyes.”

“If you can’t stand the heat in the dressing-room, get out of the kitchen.”

“The lads really ran their socks into the ground.”

“He [Brian liaudrup] wasn’t just facing one defender – he was facing one at the front and one at the back as well.”

“It’s now 1-1, an exact reversal of the score on Saturday.”

“…but Arsenal are quick to credit Bergkamp with laying on 75% of their nine goals.”

“an excellent player, but he [Ian Wright] does have a black side.”

“We say ‘educated left foot’, of course, there are many players with educated right foots.”

“That’s twice now he [Terry Phelan] has got between himself and the goal.”

“Mark Hughes at his very best: he loves to feel people right behind him…

“Gary “Gary always weighed up his options, especially when he had no choice.”

“We threw our dice into the ring and turned up trumps.”

“And I suppose they [Spurs] are nearer to being out of the FA Cup now than any other tine since the first half of this season, when they weren’t ever in it anyway.”

“…and he crosses the line with the ball almost mesmerically tied to his foot with a ball of string…” d v`

“I never make predictions and I never will.”

“And there’s Ray Clemence looking as cool as ever out in the cold.”

“…and the news from Guadalajara, where the temperature is % degrees, is that Falcao is warming up.”

“If history is going to repeat itself I should think we can expect the same thing again.”

“The Uruguayans are losing no time in making a meal around the referee.”

“I think that was a moment of cool panic there.”

“Beckenbauer really has gambled all his eggs.”

“Celtic manager Davie Hay still has a fresh pair of legs up his sleeve.”

Someone posted that The Scottish Football Monitor site (sorry, I tried scrolling back to be able to attribute the poster’s moniker, but unsuccessful) was experiencing financial difficulties due to exposing EBT etc scandal at deidco.

Fiduciary responsibility of all things Celtic rest with our CEO, why look elsewhere for justice in this crooked world than CQN for answers?

TSFM suggests a less than bigoted “anyone but Celtic” Scotland than is the reality.

Can’t wait for Sunday. Close season can’t come quick enough for me.

  29. Off to work to explain how an organised and physical St J side were too good for our directionless soulless corpse of a team.

They’ll all be talking about the sun though. :-j

As someone mentioned it’s not how much money we spend it’s how we spend it, how we plan and our game management when our recruits take to the field.

All has been lacking in 2 years.

  30. I should add that I will of course be there on Sunday (if God spares me) to cheer wildly when we are presented with our 5-in-a-row trophy. But I’m concerned at the likelihood of a sparse crowd to witness that and a feeling that those of us going there will be akin to ‘paying our respects’, hoping the event is over quickly and we can start to move on…..
