As I said at half-time. That was typical of our performances at St Mirren Park over the past four years or so.

We’ve had to rely on a few late winners to see them off in the past. Celtic were never in any danger today after restoring the lead.

Grinding out a win is acceptable for me anytime. Hopefully we start to show signs of improvement, but today was all about the three points.

  2. eddieinkirkmichael on

3 points away from home against a team that parked the bus and used some questionable tatics that were used to full effect with the turning of a blind eye by the ref.

Performance, again, wasn’t great and the football at times was dire but what do you expect in the SPFL? Teams set up to stop us playing, it was noticable that the only time we saw us with any fluid movement was in the last 5-10mins when St M were chasing the game.

Still major question marks about Ronnie and his tatics, even more questions about the commitment of some of the players. It’s going to be a long hard season that will test our support. Pity so many are choosing to be so negative so early in the season but hey you are all entitled to your opinions. Couldn’t believe some of the posters on here predicting a defeat after we conceeded the equaliser with still over 30 mins to go.

See you all on thurs at CQN corner if I get there early enough.

Scattergun team selections and haphazard substitutions

Only changes from our previous match which was a 3-0 win-

Denayer injured so replaced by O’Connell…..who done well btw.

Commons injured so replaced by Wakaso……who done well btw.

Do you think Ronny Delia’s decision to move Wakaso wide left and Stokes up and in beside Guidette worked?

As for the haphazard substitutions……2 subs…..Guidette injured to be replaced by another striker-Scepovic…..and Wakaso…..knackered after working his ass off and on a booking…..replaced by a holding midfield player while we are 2-1 up with about 5 minutes left……crazy stuff eh?

    Well done Celtic.

  5. Just a wee look in to see if I should waste my time skimming through the 90 minutes of what appears to be from the comments posted..utter drudgery……appears my choice of early afternoon entertainment wasn’t wasted

I really am beginning to wonder now if Mr Lawell will buy out the remaining term of my season ticket and sell it on at half price, with the offer of a free one to go along with it,to a “proper” celtic supporter

And what is it about going to mass that qualifys you as a better supporter of Celtic than one who doesn’t

Anyway back to Gleneagles where people are actually playing for the love of their sport and some pride in the team they are representing

I understand your thinking, however I completely disagree.

This celtic team, management structure is a direct result of poor short sighted decisions by our board of directors….

They have “directed” the club in the wrong way by selling assets for short term financial gain.

Unfortunately the celtic support cannot sit idly by and remain compliant otherwise we will continue on a downwards spiral.

We must continue to be critical we’re it is deserved

  7. Broonie to me is having to cover everything in midfield, a great engine but sorely needs help.

If he picks up an injury, we will struggle badly…

At least you were in the comfort of a caravan when you fell asleep. I know a certain CQNer who actually fell asleep at the game last Saturday! :-)

Izzy did really well again today and Guidetti deserves plaudits for his goals.

That aside it was poor and for me worryingly so.

I was talking to quite a few guys outside the ground prior to kick off. None are convinced by Ronny.

You put the golf first, so no need to get alarmed about Celtic’s win.

Spanner: “Celtic up against the vastly experienced Tommy Craig.”

    * That’s not me having a go at wee Tommy by the way.

Anto was man of the match by a distance. Guidetti and van Dijk both played really well too boot.

Was up in the capital yesterday for a wee day out with mrs j. tram / shops and that. Finally stopped off in a pub on Rose St. Lovely pint of the Pure!! Place was mobbed mostly English and cockney. One was a scot who had lived in Crawley for 27 years but was born in Perth. He asked me where I came from I said Coatbridge. He scratched his chin as I could see his brain hit 3mph as he told his wife. People from Coatbridge support Celtic. I told him well done good to see you havnt lost IT!!!

  14. EddieinkirkMichael: agreed. Thunder road: fair comment I’d say. Happy to be corrected on some tactical calls however as certainly I’m no expert.

  15. Kojo,

Agree with a lot of what you say but regarding broonie, yer way off the mark.

He’s a lonesome cowboy in the midfield and needs a couple gunslingers to assist.

    High noon, cfc.

  16. For those of you worried about Thursday. Remember, we will not have Scottish Officials. For those of you who will not be at the game, I would recommend you switch off the Commentary…unless you have the mindset to laugh at their desperation. When I watch a game/ part of on TV, I invariably think we are poor and will struggle to score. When I am at the games, I am nearly always confident and not as unimpressed as quite a few on here seem to be. I don`t know if that is because I am influenced by the negative TV commentary or because I appreciate the speed of the game when I am actually there .

One final point. If I ever reach the stage of dismay at Celtic performances as many on here have reached, I will simply stop going. I certainly won`t come on here and help spread the bad message.

  17. Afternoon all. Bit overcast here now. Still, any victory raises the spirits. Am I right in thinking there was something not right about the pitch today? Players couldn’t run with the ball and whenever the ball was passed a long the ground, it stopped very quickly.

  18. Jungle Jim,

Just read you contribution. I was down in England for a few days this past week. A friend of mine down there told me he always turns down the sound when a football match is on the TV. I concurred. I never listen to their nonsense, if I can help it.

  19. Parkheadcumsalford-i thought the same mate, pitch very dry, guys getting the ball caught under their feet all the time.

  20. pfayr……btw what you said was not what bugged me most……there were a lot of other things that other posters were saying and just so happens yours is the 1st 1 i scrolled back to.

Fair enough…..it is all about opinions.

There just seems to be sooooo much criticism of us when today would have been a day that would have been appreciated in years gone by.

As much as i understand us all wanting Celtic to win and do so by playing amazing football and scoring loads of goals……these victories count as much and in their own way……sometimes they should be savoured because we are struggling.

Hopefully it is something for us to build on and once so much settles down perhaps we will get a lot better and more consistent.

Perhaps we are now….just getting started.

  22. Grinding out a win is very important. I wish we didn’t have to do it but you could easily look at Ronny and think he’ll not be able to grind out ugly victories. And in Scotland that’s one of the most important things you have to be able to do.

  23. Pleased with the result but not too impressed with our play. Plenty of players working hard but not much flair or guile.

Left side with Virgil, Izzy and Wakaso was more f a unit than the right side of Ambrose, O’Connell and McGregor (and this was not all Efe’s fault).

St. Mirren are a weak outfit with a park the bus strategy but they played like it was a cup final today. Thankfully our effort and fitness was better than theirs but I feel we will need more creativity on Thursday.
