Standing up for your views, San Siro

658

Another day another Uefa fine for crowd-related transgressions, the umpteenth in recent years.  When we went to Seville we knew you could take tens of thousands of Celtic fans anywhere, secure in the knowledge they would make friends with police and locals alike.  That reputation’s gone, the Fifa and Uefa awards, relics.

The world appears to have its share of Pussy Rebels.  Someone who will tarnish another’s reputation (in this case Celtic) but not have sufficient courage in their convictions (in this case their right to break Uefa rules) that they will do so in their own name, accepting consequences accordingly.

The internet is full of them too, keyboard hard men who will carry a campaign to the ends of the earth, as long as it doesn’t leave a trace of identifying information.  If their name gets out, they will run 100m in the opposite direction of their declared stance, faster than Usain Bolt at am Olympic final.  Pussy Rebels, every one of them.  Lots of people have crazy/offensive/just plain wrong views, but manage to put their names to them – nutcases, but Tiger Rebels.

If you have a view, or way you like to enjoy a game of football, stand up for it.

The incidents in Zagreb pale into insignificance compared to the mini-bus attack which left a child injured before the League Cup semi-final.  That wasn’t a rule transgression, it was proper violence.

A few days after the incident I wrote I was concerned there had been no arrest.  Despite the overwhelming outrage among Celtic fans and others, and the damage done to the victim, the reward money is still unclaimed.  Do the proper thing, report the crime and claim your reward.  We have a reputation worth putting your name to.

Not sure how things will go (on the field) tomorrow night.  Celtic have an incredible record in the San Siro over 90 minutes, four draws and I think only a couple of defeats?  A win would see us into the last 16, it’s a huge ask, but don’t bet against Ronny.

Farewell James Easdale, we’ve loved your work.

My thanks to Andy Coyle.  Don’t know him from Adam, but he called me out of the blue, met outside Celtic Park, and put £100 in my hand for our Mary’s Meals appeal.  God bless the Celtic support.

On the subject of which, you know you’re dealing with someone special when you learn Lisa Hague, Kris Commons partner, bought a ticket for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner.  She’ll be helping out too, more on that later.  After the dinner we have Packy Bonnar, Joe Miller, Tommy Coyne and the one-and-only Tom Boyd, with Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein and Patricia Ferns on song.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

We can take heart from our last visit to the San Siro where we came so close to getting a result and outplayed Milan for long spells, and passed the ball superbly.

I think Ronnys team may be even better suited to playing away from home, certainly domestically with the high pressing game, the smaller pitches make it easier to win the ball back quicker.

Interesting to see how it translates to the San Siro.

I think if we wear the green and white hoops we will win 3-1. :)

Big day for Celtic – first and foremost we put in a good performance – then whatever the outcome, we will be emboldened for our relentless progress towards the treble – I am sure we would all be happy with that out come in Ronny’s first season.

Let’s also put Aberdeen back in their place – I expect a resounding victory on Sunday – they will not be able to live with us now.

Perhaps all the chances we are making will be converted into a decent goal tally.

There will be a 50,000 attendance and we will go to CP confidently expecting a victory – HH

I think you will have no arguments with those senarios :-))

If it’s going to be 4-4 can we be winning 4-0 until the 93rd minute and they score the equaliser at the same time the ref blows the final whistle.

  10. I’m also looking forward to the Aberdeen game too, but not the bile from there fans, they have a fixation on child abuse that is second to none, rather worrying actually.

No place for that at a football game, or anywhere for that matter, strange way of grabbing the moral high ground if you ask me.

Looking forward to tonight first and foremost. The nerves are beginning to jangle but that’s what comes with big games.

I wouldn’t be averse to a wee wild card of someone like wakasso on to man mark shaqiri (sp?) who drifted into spaces that our back 4 couldn’t cover or wouldn’t venture into.

Not sure if he would physically be up to that task and by the time we find out it might be to late imo

I’d be tempted for Ronny to leave the team unchanged to show them he has confidence in them , having Wakaso on the bench if needed

but then I never did know much about tactics ……..just love watching the HOOPS

    Guys,

I’m looking for a bar to watch the game in Edinburgh near Lothian Road.

I’ve tried CelticBars.com and can’t see any likely places.

    Any suggestions or recommendations?

    Hail Hail

    ===============================================================

Head up to the top of Lothian Road, then go towards the Meadows, via Brougham Place; just before the traffic lights, on the right-hand side, you’ll find “The International” bar, which is the base of one of the Edinburgh CSCs.

Bit easier for you, if you are in Lothian Road, rather than going through the Grassmarket.

Have you got a pub in Brum yet for the match? Try the Dubliner top of dig beth. If not there they’ll tell you where to go (in a nice way)

  16. Tony Donnelly –

    Well said.

Why do our enemies insist on linking is with Jimmy Saville, just because he was a Catholic?

It’s not like he was a regular visitor to Celtic Park and as far as I know, he never showed any interest in football, far less Celtic.

Their logic is a bit like us taunting them on the basis that Peter Manual, Peter Sutcliffe, Fred West and Bible John were Protestants.

Sitting in and hoping inter don’t score is not for me, if it dosen’t work and inter score we need to change our game plan during the game, why not have a go from the off and see how we go, we’re not a bad side inter IMO are a wee bit better than us but I don’t think there’s much in it, might as well go out having a bash than go out on a 0-0 HH

  18. Gutted i wont see game tonight… its not on live here.. bloody liverpool game on. Thought they would have learnt their lesson last week…tubes.

Celtic game is on after at 7am.. i’ll be at work with a shovek in me hand for 8 hrs in 35degree heat. No dream this ozzy thing folks. Read the small print

  19. Good luck to Ronny’s bhoys tonight.

Let’s hope for a great performance, no subsequent fines from UEFA and a happy and smiling McManamanamanaman.

The International Bar is no longer a Celtic friendly establishment. Best to head r to Malones Irish Bar in Forrest Road. Not too far from Lothian Road.

    Seconded.

The IB used to be a good ‘Tic pub but not last time I was in. Malones on Forest Road is good for Celtic games, has lots of tellys, a big BIG screen, plenty of space etc. And probably more than a few Tims for company…

  24. North Cyprus (formerly Baku) Bhoy on

Shame about “The International”; I used to live across the road from it, back in the days when it was called “The Butt Inn”, in the late 70s, when I was a student in the city.

  25. North Cyprus (formerly Baku) Bhoy

I was in the IB after the semi. Plenty Tims in. It’s not a Celtic bar so to speak.

They do not have BT or Sky they have a dodgy link or foreign Sky box.

I wouldn;t reccomend watching a game up there.

Malone’s is the best bet but it is fairly mobbed and £3.75 a pint.

Loads of bars around Lothian Road like you say but if Dancing Bhoy wants to be with fellow Tims in a good atmosphere Malone’s is the best bet. There will be about 500 in there tonight.

  26. Really can’t see Ronny ‘tinkering’ too much with the line-up and/or the style of play.

If he does, and we get ‘stuffed’ he will get slaughtered and asked why did he change a successful formula.

I can see a place for Wakaso from the bench, possibly ahead of the youngsters Henderson and McGregor – also I think Biton will sit a little deeper than usual – just in front of VVD and Jason.
