Very pleased we appear to be on the verge of signing a central defender, especially one who at 24 (Erik Sviatchenko), should be very much in his prime. The previous two seasons each brought excellent defensive performance records but things fell apart from the very start of this season – way before Virgil van Dijk left.
The reasons for the are varied. Jason Denayer left to be replaced by Dedryck Boyata. Dedryck is more settled now but he was well short of Jason’s standards early on. Still is. We have also regressed in the full back positions. Emilio Izaguirre’s decline has been gradual but clear. 18-year-old Kieran Tierney makes fewer mistakes and (I think) poses a greater physical challenge.
Then we have Mikael Lustig. Mikael has always been a favourite of mine; as recently as September I regarded him as our best defender, but I think he’s been well off his best for most of the season. He has been regularly caught in the wrong position and his distribution is often a possession-losing lump upfield.
Craig Gordon would be first to admit his form is nowhere near where it was last season, when he almost single-handedly was responsible for us reaching the Europa League knockout stage. The questions for Craig are what’s going wrong and can it be fixed?
Think back to the latter days of Artur Boruc’s time at Celtic. Artur has gone from having Bayern Munich scouts at Celtic Park to watch him to a guy we sold without fuss as a backup for Fiorentina for £1.2m. Whatever it was he had, had gone. I thought he was finished. Six years later he’s at something approaching his best at Bournemouth.
Craig Gordon has the best part of 4 years on Artur. He has time to get back on form.

I’ve never had Sciatica but know some who have. It can be a crippling condition and come and go anytime. No actual cure. I wouldn’t wish it on a h**
Not before time.
BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on 18TH JANUARY 2016 10:00 AM
At the end of the day “the list” is made up of players who meet the coaches criteria. Ronny will be telling John Park exactly what he is looking for.
Like I said before, I believe Ronny was happy with the squad inherited and mainly looked to add numbers through loan deals etc.
There aint nothing like a Dane, nothing in this world…..
For me wee Jamsie is just to inconsistant one good game now and then is not enough when you are playing for Celtic.I would let him go as I dont think he would be missed. H.H.
Id say the jury is out on JF.
He is a good player…but his decision making isnt the best, tends to get in a tangle more often than not.
How often he plays is a problem as well.
If he is constantly injured or out the team, then he isnt improving.
Who knows what will happen, but imo, he needs to step up to the plate, and soon.
HH
Reading Bhoys comments on Forrest,he does have some qualities, that have been noted.,but he is inconsistent, injury prone, and his game intelligence is lacking for a guy of 24 years old. We don’t miss him when he’s not playing IMO,time to move on for all concerned.
We all want to see the best of Efe and JF but they must still be consistant. For me we are still carrying too many passengers in the MD area. Jo and KC (goal aside) are two men down just now. Mcgregor also in flashes goes missing leaving us with 1 man in MD, 1 pass and we open up.
Looking forward to Scott coming back and lets see who hides then. I know people can’t fathom Ronnie and the one striker thing but for me I often wonder how many games he will give to an off form player before he drops them.
Let’s see if we can kick on from Friday, Bringing in some new players always lifts the dressing room.
Bodes well for the second half of the season.

I am sorry to see P67 had to become involved in the spat between TD67 and others on the blog.I think as Celtic supporters and adults we should be able to disagree with each other without resorting to personal attacks on the poster. H.H.

I hope the PLC take this opportunity to strengthen for next season.
I hope the penny has dropped.
We need to be doing reasonably well in European competition to generate funds.
There are good players out there.
Loads of good Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians…most have a good solid attitude.
I think we should be taking advantage.

Isnt there a court case today involving the glib one?
Hope so:)

While we’re listing the things about JF that annoy us I’ll add his ‘job done’ thing where once he’s made his pass or shot, he just seems to stand still.
Means he’s unavailable for a give and go. or not anticipating nay rebounds etc.
When he’s good, he’s great. When he’s not so much of our play can break down with him.
The above sentence applies equally to Kris Commons.

Sciatica is a living nightmare when it flares up, Slipped a disc 3 months ago and never been right since. Seven weeks in constant pain and unable to walk was a wake up call for me. I hope JF doesn’t have it that bad, Shame and to be honest I found it hard to make a cup of tea never mind play football so I feel for JF that said.
I think like Aiden and Shaun, James is going to end up another nearly man due to the parts of his game mentioned on the blog already. He seems to make a lot of bad decisions for a young man who only has to concentrate on his football, Week in week out he does the same things. Doesn’t seem to learn from his decisions.
I have a theory that JF and McGregor spend more time concentrating on how they look when they run rather than what to do once they have the ball as both players have a bad first touch and usually follow it by a stray pass, What is it with the Aeroplane arms when they run?

You must feel like a school headmaster at times. ….
Always thought James Forrest would eventually be moved up front as he’s never been a great crosser, but his pace obviously makes him an asset out wide. To me he’d be much more effective as a Michael Owen type striker playing on the shoulder. It used to be young strikers would learn their trade out wide before moving inside, James has shown in flashes some good finishing when he gets himself in the box. I wouldn’t mind giving him a run up there, perhaps playing off Carlton Cole.

One of the best bits of my birthday yesterday.
My lovely wee mother-in-law(77) sent me a wee txt wishing me a happy birthday.
Brought a tear to my eye and a warm glow.
Family eh:)

Quits a few commented on the new centre half yesterday but I think most are wary as he’s unknown and don’t wish to comment until they see him perform
Erik welcome

Will it make any difference ?
The ole haun-shake will only be beaten by a Celtic board driven by, rebellious, unbowed, unbeaten, unbreakable, non-kowtowing Celtic uppitty Tim supporters.
Sadly,…it looks as though it will take…the return of the mibbery assisted, died(LOL) huns to ramm it up the Celtic fans for one season to shake them from their, snobby-conceited-slumber of 4 years which has seen, Celtic’s team on the pitch regress instead of putting the club into an unassailable lead….the board have parked the bus on the hard shoulder….waiting for their pals to return…imho.
A season of purgatory awaits whilst, sneering huns will laugh in our faces as they….walk away from the biggest ever sporting scandal.

Oh I get that, but that’s not who I’m talking about but. No big deal.
Tony I usually scroll past yer posts, I was highlighting that you had over stepped the mark and Paul has had to pull you up for it.
I used to love this site, not as much fun as it used to be. (Not you because of you Tony ;)
Anyway back to the fitbaw, Another Dane on the Radar. But what about another striker once stokes goes to Hibs. I think we all know Nadir isn’t up to it and Cole is miles off fitness wise to give our Leigh a challenge.
We need more than one striker, The yellows add up and the sfa are playing the long game, Would hate to get caught short against dons or hearts league decider because Leigh picked up too many Yellows.

There have been a few people on cqn that I constantly disagree with or just don’t get their opinions or attidues
When I realised that I don’t value their comments I simply scroll by when I see their names
Makes the site more palatable for me – used to say I get well paid to argue at work so not interested in doing it for free in my personal time.
BTW – in pretty sure the people I ignore feel the same about me and that’s cool with me . I’m old enough to realise I can’t be pals with everyone

There is no court that will defeat that sevco mob.
As far as im concerned, they will resume the cheating from where the old mob left off.
Next season will be like hell on earth.
You thought Manchester was bad, but it will seem like a picnic, once the dead rise from their graves.
Im getting some filming gear sorted…..I want proof.
Hell on earth:)

We def. need another striker, and they MUST have one under the radar, otherwise I doubt if they would have put Stokes out on loan, leaving the team short.
“TONYDONNELLY67 on 18TH JANUARY 2016 10:51 AM
Good Bit of transfer business done there by Celtic, the silence on it in here is ear piercing .although a few have commented on it.”
Whilst I agree that there are some on here who leap at the first opportunity to criticise, I believe it is too early to pass judgement on the new Bhoy. One thing is for sure, though and that is when I do see him play, I will be looking for the positives in his game.
Re James Forrest. He can be brilliant at times and, for that reason alone, I would certainly keep him and hope the Coaching team can increase his consistency . I would think, if he was playing for Aberdeen against us, we would be extremely concerned every time he received the ball.
JJ

Well, I think people will be happy to see the board spend money
Nobody has seen these guys play so it’s difficult to say more than that
The new guy was an automatic starter for a team that did better than us in Europe and eliminated Southampton. That’s a good sign at least.
