Strikers like Anthony

578

When Anthony Stokes picked himself off the ground having won a penalty yesterday his eagerness for a piece of the action was clear.  Having missed the majority of the season through injury he is a player with a point to prove.

The penalty correctly went to Kris Commons but Anthony still had an opportunity to remind us what a valuable player he can be.  He is not the strongest or most skilful player at the club but he is a natural goal-scorer.

Competition for a place in Celtic’s attack has seldom been more acute.  Lassad, Miku, Samaras, Stokes and Watt are all pressing for a place alongside Gary Hooper.  Each of them will have to consider the possibility of new arrivals in the summer, when securing a place in the squad, never mind the starting line-up, will be a challenge.

Anthony’s return to fitness, and form, is a timely reminder of what he brings to Celtic, and what we have missed once or twice this season.

On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

Your just one of those negative folk who are never happy unless there is some sort of negativity surrounding our GOOD club .

Don’t respond to anymore of my posts and won’t respond to any of yours …

  3. Maggie,

‘ You will get nothing from a pig, but a grunt ‘ has been a common expression in these parts all my life.

Rarely has it been more appropriate.

Damn right he let himself down…

Just as Margaret McGill did with her shawshank comment ..

I used to enjoy this blog and have posted on here for about 4 years now.. Though I am a bit illiterate…

But over the last year .. It has faded from the vibrant debates and togetherness that it once had and sadly that is why I do not post as much as I once did .

  5. Our board are made up of smart, successful, business people. At times like this I feel that we really need to start talking their language. We are the ‘customers’ of the business, many of us, as shareholders, are part-owners of the business. The board are therefore answerable to us !

It is the responsibility of the board to maximise income for the shareholders. By not addressing the GB issue directly they are putting at risk the clubs future income streams . These guys know their jobs and are far from stupid – the time has come for them to address this unacceptable situation. Time for the club to stand up and protect it’s ‘customers’ and ‘shareholders’, to do otherwise would quite simply be a dereliction of duty. Peoples patience is wearing thin and time is running out – with attendances as they are, and the league already wrapped up, it would be inconcievably stupid for the board to give people reason NOT to attend matches, yet this is exactly what they are doing by failing to address this issue satisfactorily !

001….if a cop can address you by your first name and roll off the names of your next of kin, partners etc….it’s open season I’m afraid.

I was once stopped going into the r****rs end years ago (pre-fergus) with a flimsy cake box containing 2 meringues, 1 snowball and a chocolate eclair and made to either chuck it away or eat it,due to it being a potential missile.

Excellent link about blacklisting, it still goes on today with the help of the government. When people moan today about the H&S brigade they forget that years ago a lot children’s parents never came home from work because of cutting costs.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Brigade

In November 2012, the Green Brigade organised a pre-match card display against Barcelona to celebrate Celtic’s 125th anniversary.[10] The display featured a Celtic cross, green and white hoops and 125 Celtic in written form, with supporters earning the praise of club chairman Peter Lawwell.[11]

Surely Celtic are not colluding against the GB w/plod ?

So a disclaimer should be easy.

  12. This is a concerted attempt to wholly disrupt Celtic, and if this ‘officer’ McCrindle is indeed being inflammatory on FakeBook, he needs to go.

Just because Klan F.C. commited suicide it’s no reason to take it out on The GB, and by extension, us.

PL needs to make an unequivocal public statement.

Paul67, it would be helpful if you wrote a comprehensive blog in condemnation of these police-state tactics.

    And good night.

Instead of unity, it is all very fractious.

A Tim on his way home from work in Wishaw comes to a dead halt in one way traffic on Kenilworth Ave, and thinks to himself that this traffic seems worse than usual. Nothing’s moving.”

He notices a police officer walking back and forth between the lines of cars so he rolls down his window and asks:

“Officer what’s the hold up?” The officer replies: “It’s a Hun, he’s just so depressed about Sevco, he’s threatening to douse himself in petrol and set himself on fire. He says his family hates him, his mates are all laughing at him and he has never had a job; I’m walking around taking up a collection for him.”

“Oh really?” says the executive “How much have you collected so far?”.

“So far,” replies the policeman”Only about three hundred litres, but a lot of people are still siphoning.”

  17. May I suggest that the GB ‘elect’ a delegate to act on their behalf.

This delegate can then make appropriate representations to the Celtic board if required.

Also, this delegate can take the matter to a lawyer to seek legal advice and advise members accordingly.

Harrassment by the police is not legal. There must be legal steps available to those who feel they are being subjected to police harrassment.

Endless complaints and postings on blog sites (such as this) and/or boycotts will achieve nothing. Indeed, such actions tend to be somewhat self defeating.

Bear in mind, these blogs are monitored by Sevconites who will take great pleasure in seeing & seeking disharmony among the Celtic faithful.

I think the GB generally do an incredible job supporting Celtic. But their actions should perhaps be coordinated with the club (as must have been the case for the Barca game).

    THE NARROWBOAT TIM 0124

Not a problem, bud. As you say,the H&S guidelines are there for a reason, and were improvements for which people suffered.

At least one member of this forum was subject to blacklisting,as were other people I know.

Hard to believe that such things could happen in a free and democratic system like ours,eh?

  19. Just a coincidence maybe..but this Tim from Wishaw was on his way home from work on Sat and ran into one wac on Alexander St.a lot…t of police arndit was a Republican march though…I guess it could they could have been celebrating Margaret’s sevconian right enough.

Sometimes it’s hard to see the error on a mobile phone.

Sometimes the excitement just builds and you post prematurely.

We all know the high and low of that. Or is it just me?

    :-))

Its probably something to do with me being night shift and out back in the cold dark night for a quick fag and quicker post : ))

  23. BTW my comment was not aimed at typos per se. It’s about posting additional comments to correct typos rather than proof-reading the original comment, thereby invalidating the need for follow-up comments to correct the typos in the original comment.

    Got it?
