Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

The Birmingham 6 where Irish and so was the IRA so they where guilty in your book ?

  2. Boyd on Shortbread talking about sectarian singing and fan behaviour about my club…what a disgrace! Kenny McIntyre in overdrive.

For months the problem for us is the tonic wine 90min revolutionaries who align themselves with the GB. They are hangers on and wannabees and are usually not GB members.

Sad day for the club. Sad day for the support and pretty sickened by the whole episode.

    HH

  3. Well I have now read the clubs statement. So they will not defend the support from criminalisation and now they join in the wit hunt while at the same time propping up open corruption with the game in Scotland.

I will send my season book back. I am not propping up sectarian Scotland.

If they don’t know who broke the seats they should have banned everybody that was at the game until they could prove it wasn’t them me included surely that’s a fair way to do it ?

  5. Shame on those who defend the indefensible…we shouldn’t have to share the stadium with a shower of neds and hooligans…good riddance I say…

  6. Stairheedrammy on

IPaddy- lets look at your evidence

Standing behind an ultras banner- as the banner was at the front of the stand there must have been thousands standing behind it- only 128 of the GB were there

Wearing scarfs over their faces ultras style- that must prove it was the GB then- as it seems only they are able to put scarfs over their faces- lucky for us then that anyone planning to wreck seats at the ground would be unable to hide their identity in this way

Stickers saying UTLR- every wean in the West of Scotland has those stickers or knows where to get them- they collect and swap them like we swapped football stickers

Do you have any real evidence?

Peter has acted and many on cqn get the wish. The GB are demonised and much of it is down to the work of Media house and the LL. Their plan worked to a tee. Play down any bad Sevco behaviour and do the opposite with Celtic. Fir park is turning out to be worse than Manchester 08. It all falls into place just when the disgraced Ibrox club needed bad Celtic PR like never before.

Well thats all fine but our board better remember this if and when the bigots come to Parkhead again and sing their vile anthems about famine and paedophilia, not to mention smashing toilets and breaking seats. A precedent has been set and many including myself will be watching Peter.

  11. Stairheedrammy on

Those suspended were not suspended because of evidence of their involvement in Fridays vandalism- it seems to be because of their involvement with the GB

    Why break the seats?

Why throw flares and fireworks onto a football pitch in a crowded stadium?

The flare that landed in FF 6 yard box was allegedly thrown from the upper tier of that stand.

What if it had landed in the crowd?

Panic, stampede to safety………………..injuries, a fatality?

It’s not rocket science, is it?

When did you last throw a flare or a firework at a Celtic match?

Or when did you last wreck a seat…….anywhere?

  13. Some important issues being discussed tonight which i don’t mean to divert attention from.

However, if anyone has a spare seven minutes check out the footage below of Yoichiro Kakitani, who I have been banging on about on this blog for a long time now. All 21 of his goals in this seasons J-League.

    http://youtu.be/vPok10DrJAQ

A mobile, skillful and imaginative goalscorer.

Hiroki Yamada, whom we are hoping to take on trial is a superb playmaker and I dearly hope we sign him, but I would love his signing to be part of the groundwork for the arrival of Kakitani. A world class talent in the making.

Presumably he doesn’t read his own paper.

    Hang your head in shame.

More interested in a knee jerk reaction at our fans than having the balls to confront the cheating and corruption of the organisation that you and your mate Campbell Ogilvie, are members of.

Please resign…..you are a feckin disgrace to Celtic.

    ===========================

I look forward to a ground swell of popular opinion amongst the support as a whole at the lack of action by Celtic re Ogilvie and the SFA at least equal to that shown with regard to the GB.

    Aye right.

  18. Despite what some on here believe today was a good day for CFC

Our club means far too much for tens of thousands of people all over the world for it to be tarnished by the selfish actions of a few dozen would be “ultras”

Anyone interested in football just needs to look at how this ultra carry on has wrought havoc in Italy

These guys see themselves a somehow the guardians of the club’s identity and soul

    Who appointed them?

    No-one

They bang on continually about what CFC means but constantly reject any view that doesn’t square with their myopic vision

I really believe that even if the PIRA, INLA and the families of the Hunger Strikers asked them not to sing the songs – they would ignore them!

The vast majority of CFC supporters want to follow the club by abiding with the club’s mission statement – these guys want to reserve the right to do as they want

The MSM will have a few days of fun at our expense but today’s decisive action means that will be the end of it – we cannot allow a few dozen to determine what happens to tens of thousands of decent ordinary football fans

At the end of the day – this is only football we are talking about – there should be no need for guys to hide their faces behind scarves and all that nonsense

    HH

  19. Once again our board lie down to the filth coming from the scottish rags. I don’t condone vandalism or flare throwing at any ground , however we must have evidence and facts correct before reacting.

The post match headlines says “Celtic fans vandalize …..etc..” – this was an away game – how do we even know if these were “fans” of Celtic? How can celtic influence who attends games and what their behavior will be. This is the responsibility of security and police at the match.

I would deliver a strong message to the MSM not to bring the brand of celtic into disrepute until they have evidence that the perpetrators are in fact celtic supporters.

IF Celtic fans are responsible then they must be dealt with – they are feeding the glutton media week over week with political banners and other nonsense.

Understand this – Celtic is about football and charity – Celtic represents worldwide countries & open to all – Celtic is not a vehicle for irish politics or other such like demonstrations.

Celtic board – weak in representing Celtic fan feeling toward SFA/Sevco shenanigans

GB – Brilliant atmosphere , wrong platform for demonstration.

  20. MFC stewards and police must accept part of the blame for this……congestion, double booked seats,,,,,why were the fans in an over crowded area not moved as other parts of the stadium were lying empty………………..yes Doncaster these are the questions you should be asking…..all of a sudden you’ve woken up……or is cambelt putting pressure on you

  21. Let’s all forget about brand Celtic in Europe and let’s get out of Scotland forever and I don’t mean playing in a league that’s still embraces imperialist values

    We don’t need Europe

Let’s apply to join the airtricity league and then we can really celebrate our irish roots and culture and display our banners and sing our songs celebrating our political convictions

Who knows in 2035 we could even be celebrating 20 in a row

  22. Remember Heysel….every fan in england was punished for the actions of a few hundred….unfortunate for the innocent majority but necessary in the interests of safety….sometimes it is necessary to do the unpopular for the greater good…

  23. iPaddy McCourt Supports Wee Oscar on

HamiltonTim, aye I read the GB statement. It didn’t wash I’m afraid. I’m sure you, as chief GB cheerleader and apologist, will have accepted it unquestioningly.

Stairheed, Hunskelper, we’re going round in circles here. I’ve pointed to all the evidence that presents a strong prima facie case of GB involvement on Friday. If you want to keep your heads in the sand and indulge in denial, deflection and whataboutery then fine, I’m done trying to argue with you.

If there was no seat broken or smokebombs thrown (after being asked not to) we would not be where we are tonight.

Ps I 100% disagree with the blanket ban every person in a broken seat should have their chance to state their case and if there is no video identifying someone throwing a smokebomb then no one should be banned for that .

Buuuuuuut somebody broke the seats and those actions have brought us to this point.

So IMHO the club should have called in everyone allocated a ticket in a broken seat and made a decision on a case by case basis.

  28. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    HT,

I thought the GB shot themselve in the foot with their statement.

It is not, nor has it ever been the responsibility of supporters groups to act like vigilanti’s,I think their statement should have been aimed at those responsible for the security and policing of the game, those paid to ensure order are 100% responsible for letting things get out of control, they alone have the power to intervene and take out the troublemakers, the statements on here after the game about steward telling the support it was a free for all and the police taking no action during violence and hooliganism makes me suspicious that this was planned.

    Thomthetim,

You made quite a statement earlier about accepting only one agenda, on that vein we should simply accept the SFA agenda and enjoy our place at the back of the bus, and be happy to get a seat on the bus eh ?

    spot on mate.

Celtic were the main victims of the football crime of the century, well until the guilty committed suicide. One of the main perpetrators is re-elected, actually rewarded for his part.

Did our board have anything to say on the matter?

Sticks in my gullet like nothing before.

  30. Joe Filippis Haircut on

On Friday evening to the best of my knowledge no board member threw flares or broke seats yet many on this forum are trying to blame the board.Wake up use your eyes watch the news clips clearly some of the Celtic support chose to act in a disgraceful manner and risk fellow supporters health and safety by throwing a flare and letting off smoke bombs and then wrecking seats and yes maybe the board acted quicker on this matter than they have in other matters in some bloggers opinion and so they should as if this carried on someone was going to get badly hurt. I support the Celtic board on this matter as I am sure many other Celtic supporters do we want all fans to be able to go to games in safety and the good name of Celtic football club to stop being tarnished. So section 111 is being broken up and that is a real pity however you cannot say the people who are supposed to sit in that section have not had plenty of warning from the club as to what would happen if they did not moderate there behaviour they chose not to listen and now will suffer the consequences.H.H.
