Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

Do you reckon you will be refunded the balance on your season ticket if you return it.

  2. Philbhoy,

He’d sell a few shirts of course, but he’s far better value than any English Championship player we may or may not be looking at.

£3-4m would probably get him, he’s 23 and will go to Brazil with Japan. A few good performances and he becomes £8-10m. Time to make a move now…..

Inconceivable the scouts will not be aware if we have been looking at Yamada, (who is also a fine prospect)

  3. I think it’s big Pete and his gutless board who should be served with banning notices.

It is they who have shamed our club.

They have remained silent on just about every matter the support want them to act on.

It is they who have disgraced our great club .

  4. earlier someone said sfa introduced new rule that seats damaged by visiting fans would be the responsibility of their club…..going to be interesting if newco will be able to stump up the 450k for damages……wouldn’t be surprised if spfl sweep this under the carpet

  5. Ok let’s have a poll.

  7. BBC`s report from Fir Park unable to show extent of damage as police have designated the area as a “crime scene”!!!!!!!

Keevins says no vandalism at Hamilton last week,so how come its deemed “a private matter” between Murderwell and Accies??

“Stairheed, Hunskelper, we’re going round in circles here. I’ve pointed to all the evidence that presents a strong prima facie case of GB involvement on Friday.”

That is the biggest load of bollocks posted about this whole affair, there is zero prima facie case, you obviously have zero understanding of the phrase you just parroted, squawk squawk

  9. Tbj – no I am not in section111. I can’t keep on hoping that those who run the club will act in our best interests.scotland is fast returning to the worst days of sectarianism. I mean I laughed at the BBC report that said that Motherwell would not show them the damage because it’s now a crime scene. Really the thin veneer of so called respectability is being stretched to breaking point. Celtic had an agenda here. They don’t want anyone to have a strong voice which the support could rally behind. Scottish institutions are falling over themselves to attack the celtic support and new laws are invented to criminalise us. Our club just joins in.

I have no desire to prop that up so they can have my book back.

There is now no one with a voice to defend us as a support. God help us.

Cheers. I disagree though with the suggestion that the anonymity of the GB is a necessity. They’re quite clearly entirely known to those in authority who pursue and harass them. They are anonymous (and therefore out of reach) only to the likes of you and I.

  11. stringer bell – no , the worst case of denial ever would be that of a rangers fan believing his/her club is alive.

how can i be in denial when i have simply asked for more clarity and evidence before calling on punishment to spectators. Whoever did this must be dealt with , simple.

My point re the board is the manner in which the conduct their outward communication – i think we as an institution are culturally trodden on and we accept it. John Reid didn’t accept it , the current board does!

  12. Shuggiebhoy the scottish media is no longer trying to pretend. They are now lying to our faces.

  13. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    JFH,

So your saying section 111 are 100% guilty of all the crimes you report and there is no room for error ?

  14. Do we want Celtic to be involved in something like this – hope the answer is no? If we are taking the lead and banning idiots then I would expect other clubs to follow and our board to insist on it.

A man whose father was killed by a flare at a football ground says “nothing has been learnt” from the tragedy 20 years ago.

John Hill, from Merthyr Tydfil, was standing next to his father, also John, when he was struck at the end of a Wales football game in November 1993.

Two Wrexham men were later jailed for three years but flares and smoke cannisters have still been let off at football matches in recent times.

Mr Hill said it was saddening that lessons had not been learned.

Speaking publicly about the tragedy for the first time, Mr Hill told BBC Wales’ Jason Mohammad how he had desperately tried to save his father’s life.

I was at the game rowM seat 42 right behind the goal at the right hand post and I couldn’t tell who was green brigade and who wasn’t, the smoke bombs where let off all over not just behind the goal seats where broken in the top tier and the bottom tier so who’s to blame for all that ?

  16. Croppybhoy you will look back on this day as a black one for celtic. When they come to take the tricolour because some find it offensive no one will be able to defend you. When the stands stay empty you will wonder where all of the support has gone.

  21. dr m

If you are found guilty of taking flares/smoke bombs into a football ground you should be barred, but only when you have been found guilty.

  22. People are surprised at the blanket negative coverage.

‘Prima facie’ means ‘on the face of it’. The photographic evidence here is strongly suggestive of GB involvement. Get your head out of the sand or do you still think Friday’s disgrace was the work of non Celtic supporting agents provocateur and infiltrators.

‘At the final whistle, two men on the opposite side of the stadium let off a marine distress flare that travelled over the pitch and struck his father.

“I can only describe what I thought was an aeroplane about to hit the stadium,” Mr Hill said.

“I could hear this huge rushing noise and I remember looking round and I couldn’t see anything – and the next thing I was aware of, my dad fell forwards.’

N.C.L.H.E. I am saying clearly I support the board in the actions against the 128 while they review the situation. I am saying quite clearly that section 111 holds the Green Brigade and these young guys were clearly identified through there banners and dress and it can well be the case that the minority spoil it for the majority I am quite happy to accept that situation in the interest of safety and the good name of Celtic and I am also comfortable that they have had plenty of warning.H.H.
