Sunshine amid murky football shadows

771

Before we get down to less important matters, let me know, did you buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?

There are so many reasons to be cynical about football people (players, directors and fans alike) in the modern era it is scarcely worth listing them but occasionally a pillar of strength comes along and changes all the rules.

This morning’s headlines that Georgios Samaras has attracted interest from an English slumbering giant is reason enough to highlight the dedication of this model professional.  Georgios arrived at Celtic on loan in January 2008 and was instrumental in the historic league win that year.  When he completed his permanent transfer from Manchester City he took an enormous cut in wages because he wanted to be a Celtic player.

Thanks for the great support for the CQN Annual. You can order online here, time is running out for shipping before Christmas!

His talent and effectiveness has meandered, a bit like those looping runs he would go on with the ball, since then and for a while he was subject to considerable abuse from ‘supporters’.  At one point he had the chance to leave but his message to Celtic was simple, ‘If you want me to stay, I’ll stay and fight for my place.  This is my club’.

The story of the rebirth of Celtic is also the story of the rebirth of Georgios Samaras.  He is the epitome of the modern footballer: strong, skilful and intelligent, he would get into any top squad in Europe.

There is no chance of him going to England, Celtic will not sell him and even if they accepted a bid, the player shows no inclination of wanting to leave.  He is currently prime candidate for Player of the Year and is our most feared player in the Champions League.

You have six days to buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer.  This is what we’re all about, don’t talk to me about football until I hear from you on the subject that really matters.

I’m using my wooden spoon as I apply the finishing touches to my lentil loop, now that I’ve bought some carrots.

It’s far too important to waste on here, and I doubt it would be needed.

How did your gardening go the other day? Did your plan for multiple tinny-breaks from passing motorists come up trumps?

I wish it had only been from 89,he might not have stolen Brian McClair from us in 87!

He took over in Nov 86.

What ever the point being that Football is a results industry anyone who

thinks other wise is kidding themselves on even Alex Ferguson said

the exact same thing last week on SSN

I can hardly believe some of what I am witnessing in The UKplc in 2012.

I am getting really disturbed by it.

He never got many goals last season either, how did we get on, oh aye that’s right we won the title, result eh

  7. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

So by changing the direction of the discussion your admitting defeat, it’s all about results and if we don’t get the result its all Sammi’s fault, yer scratching around now for validation.

What’s that got to do with Sammi ?

It’s you who keeps insisting he’s a centre forward, no one else in this discussion has claimed that but you.

Now have you looked at his stats on that link I posted ?

Did you notice the goals to starts ratio, 81 started 34 goals, no bad for a midfielder IMO

Not once in this debate all evening have I ever mentioned that your Mhan is a

CF I pointed out to you that he was a forward player not a CF

I did mention that he has been used in European away matches as the lone

forward he was signed as a forward player not a midfielder and his goal

return tally of 34 goals over five Season’s comes under piss poor record

Brian McClair & Henke scored that amount of goals in one Season for the

    Hoops let alone five Seasons

You can try and convince me for untold amount of time but you will never

change my opinion of said player he is an under achiever it’s as simple as that

  9. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

34 goals from 81 starts is poor ?

He was signed as a forward, says who ?

  10. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

I’ve already said I won’t change you mind, I know and knew from the beginning of this discussion I could not change your mind, I don’t pretend to even try and change the mind of haters, I simply try and counter your negativity.

  11. Even John ‘Dixie’ Deans scored over 120 Goals in said amount of Seasons

& Not a lot of younger hoops bhoys and ghirls have heard of him

    Only trying to help…..

Anyway, while you are correct about it being a results industry,it is NOT necessarily an instant,short-term results industry.

We’ve all seen plenty of examples of short-termism ending in tears.

In fact,Man City tried it and failed miserably in the late 70s/early 80s,and look hellbent on repeating themselves, while Man Utd had been guilty of it with every manager since Sir Matt, until Fergie arrived.

We could have been guilty of it with Sami too, butnow the decision to find him his place in the team has been vindicated,we should be grateful,IMO.

Because if anything it’s about future results and performances, not past ones.

  15. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

Apart from McClair and Henke who else ?

For someone you don’t rate you compare him to some of the best in the business.

No really a good strategy if you have to go to such extremes to try and prove a point, is it ?

Turns out I was right all along eh :oD))

I’ll tell you another player I think could move, young Matthews is going to be Browns replacement, until then he should be our right winger, far better than anything we have, until young Forrest goes to see the wizard of oz to get a heart.

@ Last he is begining to bear fruit but one only has to cast there mind back not so

long ago in-fact the cup semi against Ross County where on that day Sammy was

posted missing along with the rest of the team.

As I have said all along we all know that Sammy can play well when he is in the

mood and this Season so far wee Neil has managed to get him playing well and

getting him to keep focus for longer than ten minutes in a match but over the past

five Season’s that he has been with the Club that has not always been the case

regarding Sammy so yes lets all hope that long may it continue and we see the

better side of GS than the enigma that he has been found wanting in the past

Bobby Murdoch now he was another Great player to pull on the Hoops

    Bless Him

He could put the ball on a sixpence coin about the size of 5p nowadays

and he had a shot like a cannon ball being fired

I was fortunate enough to remember and see Bobby playing for the Hoops.

Yeah those younger Hoops Bhoy’s & Ghirl’s they can be very opinionated

and try to persuade everyone into there own little mind sets without
