I remember a situation several years ago when we had five full backs and converted-full backs out injured at the same time. The injured count for central defenders is not currently as high but the situation is just as critical.
Erik Sviatchenko joins Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer on the injured list. Kolo Toure is certain to be added to the Uefa squad before tonight’s deadline but will be pushed to be match fit for next week.
Fortunately, the man who has spent more time injured over the last two seasons than anyone else, Mikael Lustig, is fit and able to move from full back into the middle, with Saidy Janko able to deputise on the right.
More words have been written about Efe Ambrose than any other Celtic player this month. It’s quite possible he’ll move on towards the end of the transfer window but he’s set to be given an opportunity to make good his error in Gibraltar by leading an unfamiliar defensive line-up in Astana tomorrow.
If I had a choice, I would prefer Celtic in adversity than Celtic over-confident. We know we will have to protect the defence tomorrow so the match plan should be straightforward.
Astana are not without their concerns either. Kazak media are concerned Astana are weaker than a year ago, due to the departure of Georgi Zhukov the likely absence of captain and top scorer, Tanant Nuserbayev, added to the turmoil at the club this week, caused by Lyon’s bid for midfielder, Nemanja Maksimovic. They will battle tomorrow, but their preparations are far from ideal.

Selling Miller was and will be’s Lawwell’s worst mistake ever at Celtic. The out ball was no more, plan B no more, and there wasnt a player who could give you what Miller had for 10 times the amount we sold him for.
Selling Miller cost us three championships.

Peter’s worst mistake ever? Give him time – he’s still there! :-)
I remember KM as a guy who gave his all – his application could not be criticised. However, his absence from the team was not the sole reason for us failing to win the title in 2009/10/11. For example – in 2010 Robbie Keane was our top scorer. With 16 goals.
Therefore, I respectfully disagree.

NATKNOW @ 8:11 PM,
Very True… It’s not about the cash flow, its about the cash.
That also brings to mind the VVD money, he went too late to spend it…
Couldn’t we’ve just stuck it in the biscuit tin for the next window;)
Hail Hail

Exactly so – What’s the point of this facility if we don’t use it? :-)))
William Kennedy ( Irish American writer from Albany New York) is another writer I would recommend.
His best known books would be Legs ( about gangster Legs Diamond) Billy Phelans Greatest Game and Ironweed ( made into a movie with Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep)
Interesting insight to the Irish American struggles in the late 19th and early 20th century
worth a look

Is CM really not a Celtic player now?
I cannot dispute your comments on each of the centre backs we have but the point remains that we do have them ( except Charlie Mulgrew, apparently ! ).

Name the agents por cierto.
cheers bhoys – I’ll get on to amazon !
I have just had a cup of Lemsip but I think someone must have dropped LSD in it because some posts appear to be claiming that Kenny Miller was some player for us and selling him cost us titles !!
Enough.
Goodnight all,

I think the ground went against Winter Lion, ran no sort of race, lot of rain in Galway today
PL let Henrik leave, despite 100,000 + Celtic fans asking him not too. That decision by PL cost us 19 titles por cierto.

A great trilogy, fond memories of reading in my first flat in Glasgow town:))
You’re obviously an hombre of great taste:))

No argument from me on £20 million
And as a Celtic man you have my respect
But I take issue with the view that Scotlans can play a game of poker with Europe and the U.K. post
Brexit
Scotland had an option to leave the UK and make its own deal with Europe
Scotland democratically decided not to do that
So in the democratic world Scotland is part of the UK
The U.K. Then had a chance to stay in Europe but decided not to
So Scotland (right or wrong) democrtacilly is out of Europe
So we are part of the U.K.
Or do you just want to keep on having referendums until you get the answer you want !!
For clarity I live in London I voted to remain – like Scotland London did not get the result we voted for – I accept the voice of the people
So let’s think about doing what we do better than we did before

Hans Fallada.
“Every Man Dies Alone” is the US working title of “Alone in Berlin” which is its UK title.
I bought the US version in NYC. Sorry for the confusion.
Bloody hell, what a depressing site this has become.
Once the go-to site for Tims everywhere. Now, bitching and moaning and some almost wishing we lies. It’s pathetic and shames true Celtic people. The personal abuse dished out to PL and, in some cases, Paul67, is a disgrace.
Anyway, I, for one, look forward to a Celtic win tomorrow.
Can I say, I don’t mind Efe playing tomorrow, as long as we have someone playing sweeper behind him, so play Efe in front of central defence
Here goes :-)
Gordon
Janko, Lustig, O’Connell, Tierney
Efe
Brown, Bitton, Armstrong
Dembele, Griffiths
Many will disagree with Efe and Bitton, but brings height, and experience into team
Hail Hail
Cowie
Replace Bitton with Rogic and I think that is a solid team, that just may win in Asia.

Cant complain, I’m up. Just before the 8.20 at Galway John Jo done me a favour ;-)
Would it be to cheeky to ask on thoughts for 2mor?
DD
Bitton, holds/keeps control of the ball in these type of games than Rogic does
Granted Rogic offers a better goal threat, in my view doesn’t last full games, drifts out of game and at times gives possession away to easily
Just my opinion mind :-)

TR can be replaced by NB on 70 minutes after he has scored a couple. :)

Indeed, there’s no rush, let the English stage post..
Us Scots have a precedent to consider.
Bought and sold for English gold no less.
Alas all things considered we gained access to the world’s biggest market place in return. Customs tarriffs no longer an issue. England’s weak spot being flanked through Scotland no longer an issue.
win win deal at the time – 1707
Now then, 2016. Different story. I’d pack your bags if I were you.
Little Englanders difficulty is Scotlands opportunity.
Reap what you sow.

I like The Moore Factor in 6.40 at Galway ( Weld trains,1st time in a handicap, has form on soft and ran well at the track last year ) could be well handicapped around 7/1

God rest Father Jaques, he was ordained when I was 5 years old, to leave this world in such a way after a lifetime of service leaves me deeply sad. At least he is with our Lord now. Not just a saint but a martyr, closer to God.

You look at dimensions of play any club had and the decision Celtic took to sell Miller was a disaster. Both Burns and Strachan begged Lawell not to do it to no avail.
Defences feared Millers pace obviously. Without Miller Celtic never had that option. That gave the opposition a huge advantage when preparing to play against us.
It gave them a huge advantage when they played against them to.
It cost us 3 championships.
