Tannadice the scene for Cup quarter final

877

On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008.  The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out.  The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.

Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final.  We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution.  Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012.  We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.

United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup.  Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

How’s about the aptly named- A Shot At Glory, who starred in that I wonder?

  2. I know CQN has raised lots of dough for various good causes. I also know you can’t keep going to the well, however, if you would all be so kind as to dig out any old saucepans you may have, indeed any form of pot would do, and send it to Ibrox, I am sure they would be most appreciative. Just label it up as “a pot to pee in” Maybe we could call it a POt to P In appeal. Yes, a POPI appeal we can all be proud to take part in.

Would actually be funny to see thousands of pots getting delivered to the main doors eh!

  3. all good natured banter this morning lhads but we have a big game tomorrow; time to get the focus back on beating the minis.

Good that Kello is out, that Black is not available to hack us at every tackle. Wee Jamsie can be brought back and hopefully not be kicked all over the place.

I fully expect to see Templeton play so we need to look out for him.

The real danger men for me are Willie Collum assisted especially by Andy Tait. Our lads should be over Collum like a rash the minute we see any of his tricks.

Rant over; I see a 2-0 win for the Hoops.

Nearly needed one after reading that. Brilliant!

A win tomorrow and there will be no stopping us.

The role of the S.F.A. in this Rangers fiasco should be scrutinised e.g. Did they ever question the steady increase in the valuation of Ibrox, eventually reaching £140m. apparently for no reason than to avoid administration ?

  7. @ starry – yes, I think you get a 134 or a 43 as I remember. Do NOT want to miss the game!

I think we win it and we can start to breathe a little easier, which is nice.
