Tax cheats and self-serving Help

673

Well, at least we don’t live in Spain, where tax fraud convicts are lauded like some sort of distorted victim if they have a connection to football. No one really expected Leonel Messi to go to prison, accountability in Spain isn’t that exacting, but he will have to live with a conviction for defrauding the tax system of millions of euros. A shameful act for one so wealthy.

I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable at the politicisation (from all sides) of the poppy and charities like Help for Heroes. Society has been poor at looking after its literal cannon fodder in the 100 years since the Somme, but flag wavers around these parts have imposed political sentiment on these charities which doesn’t exist elsewhere in the UK.

Four years on from the infamous Rangers-Milan legends supposed charity match, James Doleman’s article yesterday, on the unauthorised use of Help for Heroes logos on t-shirts, gives us more to ponder. It’s impossible to damage a brand which is already at junk value, but activity like this makes it difficult for all good causes to make their appeals.

  1. hunbelievable refereeing keeper caught the ball a yard out of his box, no even booked.

Maybes Brendan asked the ref to officiate like hun refs do, just to get used to it

    Cifti – not for me!

Not for me and probably not for Brendan either on this showing.

Steven Fletcher would be ideal for the game against the Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar

  6. Good work out Christie should have had a hat trick Griff was excellent, not just his goals but

    distribution as well.

Brown looked fitter than the end of the season, and Saidy Janko should start a RB in the first qualifier.

Special mention for the referee, who was dreadful.

  7. Come on Wales – do it for Joe Ledley (first time ever supporting a British team – Celtic are an Irish club playing in Scotland)

  8. Well done Celtic. Another good result. I much prefer winning friendliest than being humiliated in them. Whole team good going forward but suspect in defence. Brendan will be learning a lot about his squad. Moussa Dembele looked good. Big, very fast and very strong. Let’s hope we keep building up these wins and increase player confidence.

  9. Ref was a total homer.

For the Nir fans watch their goal

Nir gets wrongside but recovers ball.,dithers and is weak so gives it away. They cross to back post and head down Efe does not close gap so is at fault but Nir who was in position to close also just stops and Guy gets free shot.

Nir is a liability in central defensive area.

  11. Celtic’s first trip to Gibraltar I think. Should be fun!

On a more serious note, is there a monument to the three IRA Volunteers that lost their lives whilst on active service in Gibraltar? If not, where best to lay a wreath?

Just do not play him in central defensive zone. Constantly wrong side of opponent and weak on the ball and tackle.

Cifti just does not look like a striker for me he adds nothing to the team but we are stuck with him over all a good work out for the Bhoys and another win to help confidence. Sparky doing the business again he has become a very important player for the hoops.H.H.

tsonga has really stepped it up and they are now in a fifth set. remarkable recovery from the big frenchman given his recent injuries and the effort he has expended in this tournament so far.

  18. Foxy: I could be wrong but I doubt that there is any monument. If there is, I would imagine it is on the Spanish side, in the vicinity of the crossing point.

  21. You cant fault Ciftci for effort tonight. Stress is causing him to snatch at efforts. Hopefelly he’ll come good.

It’s a clean slate for all players. Trust in Brendan. HH

  24. Apologies for the offer topic question but…

My sister has justed text me a question about Halloween.

Now, before the trick or treat tradition was re imported into the UK from America, we did this as kids…

We’d get dressed up, after dookin for Apples and other games, go out and annoy the neighbours.

Now she wants to know what we called this…

On t’Internet it’s said it was called guising but I’must sure that’s not what we called it.

    Any suggestions??

    There is no monument.

  26. At the end of the day celtic won . But still work to do , especially in defence .

  27. I really hope that we don’t spend a lot of money on Joe Allen.

  28. Was impressed with Dembelle’s touch and awareness.

He tried a few nice lay off’s and played with head up.

He and Griff could be a formidable partnership.

Glad game is over as they were a bunch of hammer throwers assisted by a homer of a ref.

murray holds off a break point in the first game of the fifth set, and follows that up with a break of his own… both men giving it their all. think fitness should favour murray in the fifth
