Taxpayers do not sponsor lazy gossips

I know what you were thinking; Zenden, like Ljungberg, but older.  We need experience in the squad but with Commons, Ledley, Samaras and McCourt all able to stake a claim for the left midfield position this is the last place we need to bring in a 35-year-old.  Best of luck to the player but I’m pleased he has left Glasgow.

Today’s Sun report that a senior policeman witnessed a crime being committed but instead of doing what he is paid to do, he reported the incident to Uefa.  You have to wonder about the veracity of the crime.  The officer will do well to explain his actions if they amount to anything more than a few lines in a newspaper.

We are all partisan in this city but Justice is blind to such emotions and taxpayers (that’s you and me) do not sponsor lazy gossips.

does that mean I can get in your gang with Ghandi and that

  2. ‘Arry done for tax evasion? but no, HMRC are just going to let the huns off with £50 million……. :)

as for this investigation by UEFA, we should welcome it; theyll probably see nothing wrong and hurting grass of a policeman will be shown up for the bitter wee hun bassa he most likely is; though unsurprising that the media will milk this for all its worth even if we get no punishment; more than a bit suspicious that this suddenly comes up when FAC is swinging into action, the police are stepping up their intimidation against the GB, the partiality of the MSP overseeing this car crash of a bill is being questioned as well as the bill itself; call me paranoid.

Personally I don’t approve of the RA stuff, but to call it sectarian is just plain wrong and willfully ignorant

  3. If Lawwell has any balls he should be instructing Levy & Macrae to deal with the UEFA charges.

They can reprise the arguments they deployed when, in their role as solicitors to the Scottish Police Federation, they defended PC Christopher Halaka on a charge of sectarian breach of the peace for singing ‘IRA songs’.

I’m sure Tom Devine would be happy to give evidence if required.

The present legislation is there to deal with sectarian acts in society. For example Orange Walks, Every home match at Ipox.

New legislation is about offensive singing at football games.

    Whataboutery, smoke and mirrors.

Singing songs, any songs, about the IRA at CP or anywhere away is unacceptable.

If it happened, we’re guilty and should take what’s coming (I doubt it will be much).

    If it didn’t, we won’t.

If you want to sing about the IRA, you’re no better than a hun. In fact, you’re worse.

    That’s it.

    Stop harming the club.

    Let the huns destroy theirs.

    Y’see, we’re bigger than that.

    Most of us.

This notion that the “Post ’69” IRA are somehow shameful and indefensible, is one that is increasingly giving me the boak.

What in the name of God were these people supposed to do in the face of a system that was set up and designed to screw them into the ground, and one to which the British government deliberately turned a blind eye.

Sure they made dreadful mistakes and did things that none of us, or they, could defend, but they, in their jeans and trainers, were left on their own, pitted against one of the most cynical and sophisticated war machines on the planet and one that was backed by a media that did not care what lies it told.

It’s now becoming accepted that the “old IRA” were ok. They had nobility.

    That’s because they won.

Winners always get a good press.

It’s those others, those Provisionals, who were savage, criminal.

    But don’t forget,

The Six Counties was the last place in the western world to ” achieve” universal suffrage.

The Orange state despised and sought to suppress Catholics and their aspirations.

Those young men and women who joined the Provisional IRA are rightly proud of the effect they have had, and will have on the history of Ireland.

I find posts such as yours to be depressing and sickening.

I must be worse than a hun.

But I’m determined that this creeping vilification must not become established fact.

Surprised at the naievety of a lot of fholk on here, when the bill is made leglislation they wont need the catholic vote, they will have bought the vote of every stinking hun in the land, chances are the deal was done with the lodge to make scotland an orange state, more attractive than anything multicultural britain has to offer.

  9. Good point ernie.

    Very witty Bloke.

We would be foolish to feel over confident about the UEFA case. You and I might well think we have no case to answer.

However, think how easy it would be for UEFA to buy the media line. It makes their lives all the easier.

    That’s my worry.

Why would they go out on a limb for a club in a low-ranking country.

The tit-for-tat argument was made ad-nauseum here in the 6 counties to such a success that there are some even on this blog to his day who still believe it.

    A fine post sir.

What i find most concerning is that some take it even further than the post ’69 IRA.

Some take it as a given that even a mention of the acronym in a song/chant makes the song null n void,

yet, they are not able to justify their assertions when challenged.

  13. It is quite remarkable that the arguments made by Celtic supporters in the face of being accused of discriminatory chanting mirror almost exactly word for word those made by Rangers supporters when they were first accused.

It is also remarkable in the similarity that Rangers FC themselves declared the Billy Boys unacceptable before action was taken by UEFA, and now Celtic FC have themselves declared IRA chanting unacceptable.

Neither club can make a legal challenge if action is taken against chanting they themselves have declared unacceptable.

There WILL be action on this, most likely a warning, but the game’s a bogey

    Good name.

Is that why you’re on here?

  16. I have heard no sectarian songs at Celtic Park this season, not even add ons.

At the St Mirren game at New St Mirren Park there was a rendition of Roamin in the gloamin – sectarian, offensive and unacceptable.

In the last game against Hearts at Tynecastle we had choruses of “Go on home British soldiers” and “Say hello to the provos” – both of which are really difficult to describe as anthemic songs of pride in culture and freedom fighting. In fact most reasonable people find such songs offensive and unacceptable. In the end adding in “ooh ah up the ‘ra” into a song about Celtic doesn’t really say much about the beliefs and views of the person singing it. It doesn’t convey a sense of cultural pride and political consciousness – “oooh ah up the ‘ra”. I really do have difficulty in seeing that chant in Celtic park, at Rennes or elsewhere as a mark of respect to Irish Republicans. I am open to debate about it.

Oooh ahh up the Ra = mark of respect to Irish republicans? Cant see it myself.

The question are such songs being sung at football games offensive and unacceptable. Jock Stein, Petter Lawwell and Neil Lennon all think they are. All of them thought they had/have no place at Celtic park or among the repertoire of songs in support of Glasgow Celtic Club. I also heard that some people attending games alter Glasgow Celtic Champions to Glasgow Celtic IRA – its what any proud Irish republican would do, i suppose.

The use of the term “hun” is only ever used as a cover for hate. Its not a term of banter. It is “the other”, “them”. Thats how hate and fear grow when we ignore people’s humanity. Does anyone who uses the term hun use it as a piece of friendly banter or as has been pointed out it’s directed as a term of offence to those we don’t like?

By the way I have been a Celtic supporter and socialist all my life. It is now a badge of honour to be called a hun here by some of the bigots. I am a Hun! :)

  17. I am Neil Lennon - LTPS on

Bring it on – UEFA will kick it out.

But for the avoidance of doubt I do not like any references to the IRA at paradise. But it is not illegal so each to their own. That’s what this country is all about (or at least it should be- ha ha)

  18. The Rennes game past at the time , with no comment from pundits or reporters about any offensive or sectarian singing .

Now their all comeing out of the woodwork to put the boot into us .

Is it a single polis acting on his own here or is this a Strathclyde Police action?

When they stated that they wouldnt tolerate offensive singing they also refused to say which songs were now criminal.

” you will find out when your arrested”

It all stems from the polis meeting with the huns support. They told the huns what not to sing and the huns told the polis that there had to be action against the Celtic singing.

We are now seeing the results meeting.

The present legislation if used by the police and courts would with education go a long way to eradication of sectarian Scotland.

    Now let’s see here.

The Scottish Government reneges on its promise to release COPFS data on religious aggravated offences from 2005-09. Previous data showed Catholics five times as likely to be the victim of a sectarian attack, and more importantly, the majority of these offences occur around Orange Walks, and not football.

This COPFS data, which shows were the real problem with sectarianism lies (or rather orange walks) thus rendering the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill unnecessary as there is existing legislation in place to deal with the problem, is deleted, despite repeated requests from various groups to see it!

    They are trying to stitch us up here. Anyone who hasn’t contacted their MSP about this Bill or the deleted COPFS data can use template letters available here;

Just read on follow follow, the rangers supporters trust are having a function inside Ibrox this month.Guest speaker is someone from the Dundee supporters trust about how administration effects the average fan.

  26. I remember very clearly the fans who said they can’t ban the use of the word ‘Fenian’ because it’s a political term. That argument went nowhere. It will eventually be the same with the use of the word ‘Hun’ As said above, too many use both words as a cover for hate.

It was always inevitable that the IRA stuff would catch up with Celtic. Rangers have continued to be introuble because too many fans said ‘this will never stand up in court’ and continued to sing songs that even the club would not back, and now it will be the same with Celtic. You will continue to have fans who will say ‘ a good lawyer will get us off’. Well, no good lawyer will even touch this. Celtic FC certainly will not try and justify it, they have already made that clear.
