Teenage kicks

946

So how do you feel about playing a couple of teenagers, Filip Twardzik and debutant Jackson Irvine, in central midfield, but dropping a couple of SPL points?  Good, I hope.  Welcome to the world of player development.

For a decade or more Celtic produced prodigious youth teams but watched as Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts even Hamilton Accies graduated more effective adult players.  Key to this is perhaps ensuring that players are tested at a higher level at key times in their development.  In short, if you have not played regular first team football by the time you are 22 there is a good chance you will not fulfil your potential.

There is cost to this development, you’re not going to win all the time, especially when the two teenage central midfielders are surrounded by other young players: Adam Matthews, 20, Tony Watt, 18 and James Forrest, 21.  Half time substitute, Victor Wanyama, is still only 21.

I’m looking forward to seeing more teenage kicks in the coming months.

  1. Hope Bent F.C. NEVER get to the spl…..why would anyone want them there. In fact, I hope they implode by Christmas under the weight of their sleekit corrupt practices carried over from their progenitor Scum F.C.

I really enjoyed the game on wed, score and qualifying apart.

Just knowing that if your players were fouled, in the main we got a foul, and knowing that there was no agenda against your team.

The only time I have felt the same when we have played a scottish game, was the day we drew against Inverness ,I think, with a referee from Luxemburg.

We has a good goal wrongly chocked off that day as well, but it really didn’t seem to matter.

It will always be the same with referees.Nothing will ever change it.The terrible defending yesterday cost us 2 points.

I know. When a foreign ref makes mistake which disadvantages us, I see it as just thatand those mistakes really do even out over a game/competition. That most certainly cannot be said of Scottish referees and is the main, maybe only, reason I do not blame James Forrest at all for showing his disgust at refs who blatantly ignore fouls against him.

  8. Right, which one of you Ayrshire Bhoys has been out amending pub signs today!! Passed three separate chalk boards outside pubs in Ayr that had advertised this afternoons game and all three had the home team scored out and changed to Sevco!!

  12. somewhat concerned by the news re Brown`s hip problems

have we left ourselves short in midfield?

selling Ki was good business , but, depleting your midfiled when you know that Brown is really struggling is foolish imo ….

We have Kayal.Ledley & Vic , however ,Kayal `s fitness record is questionable ..

if Brown is out longterm we may have created difficulties by redusing our squad so considerably
