Football reporting tends to follow trends and the Celtic support has been trending since the Barcelona game in November. Juventus have arrived ready to steel themselves against wave after wave of Glasgow sentiment, but Gianluigi Buffon is right, crowds don’t score goals, or win games.
We have a part to play in settling the Celtic players and ensuring they are encouraged when they need it most (i.e. after making a mistake) but Celtic beat Barcelona because Neil Lennon designed a game plan which out-manoeuvred one of the most effective teams in history. His players knew their tasks and stuck to plan impeccably.
If Juventus think that all they have to worry about are the fans they will lose tonight to players who have bloodied a few noses already this season. Bizarrely, our secret weapon is not a stadium full of screaming lunatics (no implication or offence meant), it is a group of players who have proven that they can beat anyone.
Celtic have been rocked in the opening minutes of European games in recent seasons. Starting with an edge is important. We also need to be alert to the fact that Barcelona scored two of their three goals against Celtic beyond the 90 minute mark. Games don’t end until the referee decides. The 80-odd minutes between these times will take care of themselves.
And, if you meet Gianluigi on his way into Celtic Park tonight, tell him he’s right about crowds not scoring goals, but Gary Hooper does.
On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.
The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

Sammi not even on the subs bench. Precautions maybe – we’ll need him more in the away leg methinks!
Sammi not even on the bench :(
The nerves just got turned up a notch
HH
Just had another wee look at this starting XI – could turn out to be a tactical masterplan!!!!!
Evening bhoys from a hun free mountain valley.
So nervous I don’t know if I can even watch, but I will !!!
Wow, very attacking line up
Kojo,.. Word of advice.
Go away & read Mein Kampf.
This is a Celtic night.
Ooh Daddy…………take me to Paradise……………..
Shame about sammi but more than confident in commons! He can supply that bit of magic that’s needed tonight I’m sure. Broonie and vic will win the battle and delighted that efe plays too, pure adrenalin will carry him thru if he starts to tire. I truly believe we can win this, our best ever chance of getting to the last eight, lets do it bhoys!!!
Sammi still recovering by the looks of it. I’m happy to see this – give him a chance of the 2nd leg rather than take a risk with this tie.
Bold team
Juve 3-5-2, Celtic 4-3-3 ?
just heard from bro in law in GOA.ge’s found a tele with game on..CARMYLE relatives can relax.emdi know SENGA let her know,.
Afternoon all,
The butterflies have really started moving about with the news that Sammi won’t feature in the game today.
MON THE HOOPS – NO FEAR!!
Hail Hail
Let’s have it…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JtRx_NQFJs
Matthews for Izzy and Ledley for Forrest for me,
First thoughts on the team line-up! This will NOT be the team Juve were expecting to face – that’s a cert!
I think Kris will have to take the corners, otherwise we won’t have much height in the box apart from Victor.
I second that motion bada bing! We’ll just have to see!
Let’s hope Forrest can take his chance and run them ragged down the flanks, this is the perfect stage for him to show what he’s capable of at the highest level! In Lenny We Trust!
Just trust Lenny – he got us this far and is watching the bhoys every day
If its not working he has players available to change it
We will miss big Sammi the God from Crete …but that leaves room for another hero to step up to the plate !!
Enjoy tonite and sing like never before
HH
Ye’ll never believe this : in anticipation of the night’s match and all the adrenaline a-buzzin’, I’m lost for words and have nothing left to say.
See yez on the other side.
HH!
COYBIG!!! x 100
I hope we can rename him BUFOON after tonight bhoys….
Very strong bench should Lenny’s plan A no work oot…
Big big night for James Forest.

On reflection,Lenny may be playing a 3 5 2 to match up with Juve.,HH

Yer pal…who likes ye aloater.
I’m only sorry that Dylan is not on the bench.
good ole woody allen on reporting scotland
patty hopes for a win for us
Hope to God that’s 4-3-3, not 4-4-2 as website has it.
With those players, 4-3-3 a much more natural formation, surely?
I can see the floodlights
Strong Bench by NFL. Well done sir!!!
KLV
Efe could just give us the lift we need here. The fact that he’s spoken to the gaffer and said he’s ready will for this will have had a knock-on effect to all the team. Everyone will be buzzing with the news – just what we need!
He may only play 60/65 minutes but we could be home and dry by then. Plenty of choices for the gaffer to change things around for the last 20 mins or so.
Agree Starry Plough – excellent bench should we have to change things around.
bournesouprecipe
No sight like it!!
the msm are so these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYOKMUTTDdA tonight
Got for ’em Jamesie bhoy – they don’t like it up ’em!!!!!
Pogba and Anelka on the bench for Juve.
Efe,is no bad.. but….
Ah still don’t believe that he is oor best choice fur a C.B.
He is.. in Ma opinion..
A Mid-Fielder.
and he wid mak a Guid wan.
Actually, Ah liked the cut o’… the new fellow..
Rami…
‘
He..
Again, in Ma opinion..
is..
A Strong Lookin’ C.B.ing. … prospect.
Yep.. Rami, could be the Guy.
Kojo
Still, Laughin’
