The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

Just a thought how would Georgios have got on with RK as his manager ???

A marraige made in hell – I think – and I am not sure who I would support in that senario

  2. Why have most of todays most successful Managers not had top, if any, playing careers? No ego, nothing to prove?

    Oh,how I agree!

The most frustrating player, probably, since Tommy Callaghan, who could start a fight in an empty house, never mind a supporters bus.

I wish him well, though. As of course,I wish TC.

67ECW-I will post my conspiracy theory on RK/ Sammi, when new article is posted,in 7 minutes time.

Ancelotti, Guardiola, Simeone, Blanc, Conte, De Boer to name a few would suggest otherwise

    Which De Boer?

The one who missed a penalty-good guy,haha!-or the other one?

PL and RK…..well that would be interesting.

Id say, that DD would have had to make a few promises to RK.

I just cannot see RK putting up with PL.

So…for that reason…I cant see RK being the new manager

DD&PL want someone they can control….I cant see RK being happy about that.

    Cue….Owen Coyle.

A more pertinent question is ‘Why is it that the very best managers were mediocre players?’

Apart from Cloughie and one or two others previously mentioned, your point is fairly accurate.

Maybe nobody passed to them-which have them the chance to watch the game unfold.

Though that would mean keepers would be star managers!

I don’t think colour should come into it. Disappointed in you, bud!

Brian Clough was an exceptional player, youngest Englishman to score 200 league goals i’m sure……

My recollection was it was WGS persistence in playing Jan Venegoor when he was struggling to recover from an injury that played a big part ie no goals.

Where McGeady came into it in my view is that the formation that WGS played in the LC Final in Veneegoor’s absence and McGeady free is one WGS should have persevered with. We won that game more comfortably than the scoreline suggests.

If we ever get WGS on CQN I would ask him why he did not persevere with the LC formation and line up.

  13. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

The Betfair market is now loudly saying that RK will not be the Celtic manager.

Now slight odds against, with virtually no takers.

  14. Taking CQN back to January 65.

Rumours are that the Hibs manager Jock Stein is to be offered the managers post at Celtic.

He was offered assistant job with Sean Fallon as manager but refused.

How will Sean react to that?

He was a decent player for us and has done alright with The Pars and Hibees. Only one Cup win.

Taking a risk especially as he is not a Celtic man.

  16. Tony Cascarino offering advice to Roy Keane on how to succeed at Celtic. Oh, my sides….

Just my usual feeble jest, old bean!

Glad I wasn’t around at 1712 yesterday though. Reading back,a post then really p’d me off.

Casual racism-which I don’t think for one second was intended as such-but still and all.

What would be the managerial equivalent of ending a drought with a sclaffed shin swipe?

That was back in the day when Celtic players were men’s men – except for when they got locked in the car at training…
