The football FX business, hounding a manager, Road to Lisbon

486

On Tuesday we covered the financial benefit Celtic experienced after Brexit due to the fall in the value of the pound against the euro – the currency Champions League payments are denominated in. Today Manchester United revealed a different aspect to the same economic calamity.

Much of Manchester United’s debt is denominated in US dollars. As a consequence of Brexit, the pound also collapsed against the dollar; this alone added an astonishing £88m to the club’s debt figure.

I see Newco fans are busying themselves debating who should replace Warburton as their next manager. Fans do this, it’s a Pavlovian response to unfulfilled expectations. Many feel it’s a right and appropriate discourse, but watching from the outside you can see how destructive it is.

When fans emotionally move on from a manager it is difficult to back his team when it needs it most. Should Morton [Celtic development FC] have the temerity to open the scoring at Ibrox this weekend all of this managerial window-shopping will fuel exactly what the home team don’t need.

There are few things we can learn from that lot, mostly ‘what not to do’ related items like this.

The Road to Lisbon May 2017 Cycle

The Road to Lisbon

I am genuinely in awe of the fans who will cycle from Celtic Park to Estadio Nacional, Lisbon, in May to raise money for your Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire. It is an incredible personal undertaking by each of them, which will bring aid and comfort to many in need.

The project is being driven by one of our own, Mouldy67 – who is a role model to us all. This is from his MyDonate page:

My name is Paul Muldoon, I am delighted to be part of a group of 28 Celts, who plan to cycle from Celtic Park to Lisbon. Each of our group will be funding the cost of the professional support company, accommodation, food and travel by themselves.

We aim to raise thousands of pounds to support three charities close to our hearts; The Celtic Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in crossfire.

The plan is to depart Celtic Park on Thursday May 11, 2017 and will include 13 cycling days, spread over 14 days. We hope to arrive in Lisbon on May 25, 2017.

This project moves a level beyond mere respect, please do what you can to support here.

After Dembele’s spectacular intervention against St Johnstone he is on 23 goals for the season and if he carries on at the same rate will be the most productive 20 year old in a debut season since McClair in 83/84. Last season Griffiths was the 1st player to score 40 goals in a season since Larsson. How times have changed for Griff and what does the future hold?

So the evidence that Americans aren’t gullible is that they have put their faith in a populist snake oil salesman, who told them what they wanted to hear?

“Oh really! Wow. like that is soooo amazing”

  11. Ernie Macjay Trumpet troubles me. Too much like Hitler. Having live in Bertchesgaden and had conversations with old German Catholics in my local I have no doubt that Hitler was very liked by many at the time. Couple of friends here, mancs, both have grandfathers who were African American GI’s during WW2. Both recently took time to go to the states and reconnect with their lost family. Some great stories however it surprised me that two separate African American communities, one baptist, one atheist are 100% behind Trump. The things the media talk about in the free west are not on anyone’s radar over there. They are talking about being gullible voting the mainstream parties before who promised much and delivered only to the very few. Trump is just a different try and they want what he offers. Reminds me of my Russian colleague who laughs at how easily we believe our own media who his people in Moscow view as more corrupt and untruthful than Pravda. Who to believe?? Time will tell.

Big win on the last of the treble cups against the highland hammer throwers will send shivers down our medya’s spine. How will they spin our total dominance and the fall of the evil empire. Hail Hail. Have a magic weekend.

  12. “We need Warburton style football coaches in this country. It’s the kind of thing Brendan Rodgers also tries to play” – John Hughes in today’s papers.

    — Sigh — If only Brendan was as good a tactical mastermind as Warbs. Then Celtic might have avoided this pesky slump we’re in…

That said, John – you’re right……….Warbs must stay!!!!

  17. My friends in Celtic,

How long has the Rangers / Sevco saga dragged on now ? Despite making a lot of people a lot of money , including armies of legal teams , are we any nearer to finding the truth; the real truth.?

I wonder if the 15 year Scottish government or the U.K. Government 20 year archived papers release will shed any light on this sorry saga.

Or if it goes right to the top will the papers be withheld ? IMO, It is patently obvious that there is a cover up that goes right to the top of the establishment.

Subsequently the thirst for real truth in all aspects of life is fuelling the highest sales of Private Eye News in its 55 year history. ( Now that’s a real untainted 55 )

Print is not necessary finished, it’s just lazy journalism that is killing it.
