Making the great leap between playing Scottish Premiership teams and the likes of Inter Milan will always be a challenge for Celtic. We have done so many times in recent years, Milan were held home and away in the Champions League knock-out stage, Barcelona were beaten, but whenever we have carried the game to opponents of this stature, instead of reverting to our own style of catnenaccio, we’ve lost heavily. Quicker, more skilful, players, could make us look statuesque by comparison.
This is not a criticism. If the only way you can compete with a team with ten times your resources is to defend your 18 yard line, you should do so.
Things could have gone either way on Thursday. We were defensively inept during the opening minutes as Inter found space goal-side of their markers. I don’t know if Ronny had a moment of self-doubt at that point, perhaps he did, but was simply unable to unwind the attacking instincts of his players, but Celtic are all the better for the way they picked themselves off the floor.
I’m sure the odds on Inter progressing will be short, but I’m also sure Ronny Deila will know his players can win in Milan.
I arrived home late last night to read that Tony Conway, son of our own RWE, lost his battle against Motor Neurone Disease/ALS. I met Tony, with dad John and brother Martin, three years ago. Tony was still fit enough to walk, but evidence of the pain the family shared was evident. The three of them travelled back from their US home two years ago, along with mum Pauline, to see Celtic, and meet some family.
They bought hospitality tickets and minutes before kick-off, Celtic’s Iain Jamieson nabbed Tony and asked if he was able to make the halftime draw. Tony knew this would be the last time he would see Celtic, so his journey up the tunnel and onto the park was, to put it mildly, a very special Celtic Park moment.

Post the tickets, worked for me last year.
Makes life easier on the day.
Geordie, that sounds right. It was around late1998 or early 1999.
I forgot Porrini was red carded. He played for two of Europe’s most horrible clubs, Rubentus & the former club that played at Ibrox.

Thots and prayers with you and ur family at this very very sad time. God bless and be strong!!!

They used to attack the Smiddy regularly mate , win / lose or draw .
We were usually to busy singing and drinking , win / lose or draw to bother with them :-))
Tallybhoy, thank you for your reply re Cassano.
I have lost track of who he has played for in Serie A. I remember he started at Bari and must be onto his eighth or ninth Serie A club.
My solution to there bigotry, sectarianism, and racism, would be to close all non denominational schools, and reopen them as Catholic schools,
There grandchildren will be educated as well as Celtic supporters. .

Be cutting it fine as I will not receive them until approximately 5th March.

Winning Captains I would love my stag night at CQN11 but far too scared in case it’s messy, I trust my brothers and nephews with my life but my pals are good guys but total eijits

LennyBhoy, 8 days, even the post office can do it:-)
A couple of people collected tickets from me in the pub, another couple I left the tickets for them with the door staff. One forgot his tickets, but the lhads on the door were great and let him in, I was there when he arrived and confirmed I had arranged his ticket.
Four Green Fields, a bluenose I know occasionally drank in the lounge of the Smiddy. He stopped going as he was as peed off as the Celtic fans about the dignified crew’s behaviour.
He told me the Smiddy was Partick’s best pub but could not bare the bears’ behaviour when they came along to say hello hello.
Is the bhoy Curran still running it?
As much as we love the feel good factor
after Thursday night it was a game we could
and should have won if it was not for defensive mistakes.

I would love it, as s youngster I listened to Tricia Ferns in Scruffy Murphys, backing up the Tones and then in the main stage in Coatbrigs St Patrick’s festival, that girl can sing a song of plenty of fallen heroes, CQN11 would be a dream for my stag doo, my 2 nephews still want to go to Prague or Amsterdam, av told the 2 dafties to knock themselves our, CQN11 & Tommy Boyd (St Ambiose Bhoy) would be good but not sure if o could vouch for my muckers…. Although it would be the best stag night ever

Not been in for a while now mate , not sure who’s running it but don’t think its the bhoy Curran.

I sometimes listen to SSB if I’m driving.
The one who really winds me up is that wee weasel, Wishart.
He may not be on official duty in his SPFA role but the fact he says hee haw about the religion & nationality of some SPFA members being mocked by the horribles on a regular basis shows he has no concern for the people he is paid to look after & support.
When the racial & sectarian abuse of Neil & Aiden was at its worst, Wishart who is the Scottish figurehead of Show racism the red card, offered no public backing for them nor criticised the nastiness shown to them both.
Nail on head sir.

I’ll get something organised next week.
It’ll be alright on the night as I always say…

Just got a text. An English red top is running with the front page story that one of those involved in the Paris metro racism incident is ex-RUC.
We’ll sing a song, a soldier’s song,
With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heavens o’er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning’s light,
Here in the silence of the night,
We’ll chant a soldier’s song.
Chorus:
Soldiers are we
Whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
From a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancients Ireland
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin’s cause, come woe or weal
“Mid cannons” roar and rifles peal,
We’ll chant a soldier’s song.
In valley green, on towering crag,
Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered ‘neath the same old flag
That’s proudly floating o’er us.
We’re children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
We’ll chant a soldier’s song.

Isn’t that a shock – not .
SSB this evening.
Caller mentions religion en passant and Delahunt jumps on him with ” what’s religion got to do with football?”
Keevins repeatedly calls us a Catholic club and Rangers Protestant ……. Delahunt says nothing.

On firm ground now will let you if that suits

Song of the South on BBC2 Shld be good!!!
Not tomorrow om the rip now pissed
Bada Bing, thanks for the reply.
Wishart gives me the boak.
The only times he is heard in his union capacity, apart from the occasional promotion of show racism the red card, is when something is happening at the stadium in G51.
He is another in a position of responsibilty in our game who regulary suffers from Wenger’s poor eyesight and is deaf when it suits him.

Gordon64, that has an element of truth, but what Thursday did show is we have a manager who can organise and motivate.
Given time he will iron out the faults in individuals, or replace them.
And remember, even the greatest of players can make a mistake, that is just human error.
We have progressed, hugely.
And we are playing without fear.
At times this could, and will, cost us.
But I’d rather have that than parking the bus.
Except against Barca, yet.
