The lesson from Arbroath

760

So what did we learn yesterday?  Primarily we learned that you can’t replace 8 players from a team which won 0-4 at Tynecastle while leaving the core element of the team in place.  It is justifiable to be critical of the performances of experienced key players who didn’t perform, but Wanyama, Brown, Matthews, Miku didn’t become bad players overnight, nor did Tony Watt, what happened is the essence of our team – the system – was missing.

The effort was there but the focus which makes this Celtic team wasn’t.  In many ways this was the perfect setup for a Champions League game against a team too many people are telling me we’ll turn over.  Our Christmas Cup Final on Wednesday will require every element that existed against Barcelona last month.

The knives are out for Spartak’s foreign players, who are taking the blame for the clubs disintegration since losing at home to Celtic, both in the press and online fan polls.  We may see a more Russian looking Spartak on Wednesday.  Which will be no bad thing.

Just saw the Arbroath goal. Our “wall”? Ive never saw a wall jump!! Stay on the ground and let the keeper deal with anything that comes over it. Basics!!!!!

  2. Met a guy I went to school with recently and hadn’t seen for 20 years or so.

This guy was 1 of a kind, an Oldco supporter in a Catholic school.

Our school in West Lothian was 99pc Celtic, a few Hibbies, couple of Jambos and this guy Stuart.

You can imagine how his school years panned out and the incessant stick he took for 4/5 years!

This guy would not buckle in his love of Oldco and paid the price for it many times.

Anyway when I met him and the pleasantries were over I enquired if he still had a season ticket for the manky mob?

Nah , he said , I’ve been a season ticket holder at CP for 10 years!

    Funny old world eh?

Impressively researched stats ;-) but they still don’t illustrate or reflect a Kilmarnock ‘attacking set up’ neither to they include possession against Celtic which I’m sure would

    weaken your attacking theory.

Simply put you can have more shots on target playing on the break (as Kilmarnock may have) than the attacking team (Celtic) who play all out attack.

I note you’ve skipped the Celtic Park game where they won with two breakaway goals (one a penalty ) they were even more defensive that day than the two games you mentioned with Cillian Sheridan on his own, and they switch between four or five midfielders or five at the back.

Kenny Shiels Steve Lomas (and Terry Butcher) repeatedly set out similarly against Celtic to good effect, but it’s not with attacking football in my eyes.

We are not as good as we think we are and along way off it too. But I still prefer Neil to be at the helm. Neil is Celtic thru and thru and I dont see emdae out there that can take his place. Neil will clear out the prima donna’s and the ones that arent listening.

I was in the main stand more or less in line with the free kick.

The scouse guy behind me kept yelling at the wall to stand its ground. He knew they were going to jump.

Same guy was giving BBJ pelters all through the game, about how useless he was, couldn’t hack it in England etc. He shut up when the goal went in.

Shook hands at the end though.

  22. I yearn for the day when new Celtic signings are achieving the pinnacle of their ambitions….. Something does not sit right with players , using us as stepping stone to the EPL

We are CELTIC and they all should be told this in no uncertain terms.

Maybe there lies the issue with our Up and down performances . This type of player can only be bothered in CL games when the world is watching and they can raise their profile!!

Having said that the money we could get ain’t half bad!

“I note you’ve skipped the Celtic Park game where they won with two breakaway goals (one a penalty )”

The first set of figures were for that game.

I am not out to suggest that Kenny Sheils has a mentality like the Benfica coach but he is, quite patently, not a 10 men behind the ball coach.

Last season Killie scored 44 goals, up there with Hearts and Well, only paling in comparison with United, Rangers and Celtic. They shipped 61 goals, only Hibs and the hapless Pars did worse, so he must be a failed defensive coach.

This year Killie have 24 for and 20 against. they have scored more than United, Aberdeen & St. Johnstone, and the same as Well. Only Hibs and ICT, plus celtic, have outscored them. Again their defensive figures are not as tight as Hearts or Aberdeen.
