The loss of our greatest living legend

1049

Sean Fallon was known as The Iron Man, a hard left back at a time when pretty much all footballers were hard.  I met him and his wife Myra at their home a few months ago to prepare an interview in advance of his autobiography, which is due for release soon, the hard-man reputation could not have been further from the character of the person.

He was the most generous spirited man I have been in the company of for years.  Myra is a force of nature, unquestionably the wind in his sails.  You have never met a happier couple.

The stories he told about how Celtic were transformed from a sporting irrelevance into one of the most powerful and feared clubs in Europe were incredible.  His story was one of huge and dramatic achievement.  You and I are the beneficiaries.

The players he signed are legendary.  Kenny Dalglish, who was in tears in Sean’s home the night he agreed to go to Liverpool, Danny McGrain, a person Sean could not speak highly enough about, and countless more.  He was a committed Celtic man but took no pleasure in the death of Rangers, such was his generosity of spirit.

Sean described Jock, himself and Sir Robert Kelly as a three man team who had the vision to drive Celtic forward.  He believed that when Sir Robert died in 1971 the club’s loss was significant. Nothing was the same again.

His own parting from Celtic, in 1975, was far from satisfactory, but if he told me once, he told me 10 times, “I don’t want a single word said against Celtic”.  The club that you and I recognise is the creation of Jock, Sean and Sir Robert.  They transformed an amateurish football club into a legendary movement.  He, more than anyone I ever met, never wanted a figurative goal scored against this legend.

Today we have lost one of the architects of all we hold dear, a man who achieved the Miracle of Lisbon.  His insights reach back into the depths of our character.  His decision to author an autobiography is a gift to you and me.  I’ll share many of his anecdotes between now and when it’s published.

My sincere condolences to Myra, son Sean and all the family.  We have lost the man who was our greatest living legend but they have lost a great husband, father and grandfather.  A remarkable life has come to an end.

Epl gone mad today Adkins getting sacked is shocking, might help Lambert keep villa up and £100k per week for Walcott plus nearly £3mill sign on fee for an average at best player.

    Hail Hail

I am not a sufferer but know a wee bit about the illness as one of my friends has it.

I could be wrong and do not mean this the wrong way, but I suspect that Darren Fletcher’s treatment would be day one and full on, not dependent on NHS timescales and treatment availabilities, because Man U would be footing the bill.

If he was a brickie or an office worker I suspect he would not be able to maintain the level of health and fitness he has.

However, I wish you two and darren Fletcher all the best.

Could I draw the blog’s attention to a matter concerning a number of guys who post on here?

Over the last 48 hours a number of long time posters on RTC and TSFM have had their posts removed, now no longer being able to post, I assume banned. Other long time posters have stated that they have ‘walked away.’ TSFM himself has had very high numbers of Thumbs Down for his posts and there has been the most amount of Sevco supporters on the blog in the last 48 hours than I have ever seen before.

Would any of those who have been affected care to comment?

(Auldheid, what is going on over there??)

Eddie Waring is buried in Bramhope, just up the road from me. A beautiful little village on the outskirts of Leeds.

Bramhope is more noted for having a railway tunnel which was dug out by, amongst others, Irish navvies in the mid 19th century.

    Just thought I’d mention it.

  13. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Keevins is now telling us that the SFA /SPL/SFL “BOTCHED UP” by allowing a new club to start in SFL3 …..is that not where new clubs start, you stupid little cretin.?…….only in Scotland.

They actually did this new club a favour by not considering the other SFL3 candidates….

……and he has joined the rest of them trying to promote (pardon the phun) this new club as a Tribute Act of the club who brought shame on Scotland before they were EVENTUALLY Liquidated….

Him and his fellow fuds would be better employed keeping an eye on the finances of this new club……. 2 liquidations in Scotland in 1 year would have me scampering for my sedatives

  15. Kept schtum all day out of respect for Sean Fallon, one of our true legends.

I watched Reporting Scotland, fully expecting them to, at the very least, give a true great a passing nod.

    Nada, zip, zero, nothing.

    I was scunnered.

At least, on here, and in many other places he’s received much deserving respect and there will be much more in the coming days.

Shame on those at the bbc for their paucity of decency and their lack of humility.

They are in div3/fourth tier because every rule in the book was broken to get them there by them big bad boys at the SFA, SPL, SFL. Herr General Jabba is now dictating the language and the agenda that the poodles are to speak. His bunker is closing in on him and the candle is running out, how much is he getting paid? I jumped ship over there months ago in a right huff about moderation turning into outright censorship, and I told them to lose my email address, in no uncertain terms. I had tried to link a piece explaining the photoshopped stitch up re. the GB ‘zombie’ banner and it was removed; that was the final straw from a bale of them.

tsfm is no rtc….that’s for sure, and the site has been slowly sinking : probably orchestrated with impending truly crap news all round for sevcovians in the post.

Auldheid, of all people, should be able to enlighten us.

  23. What are the chances of, over the weekend, once the Lance Armstrong scandal has been exposed, and the world’s press pore over every nuance of his deceit and corruption, that the UK media turn an introspective eye upon any UK sporting “institutions” alleged misdemeanours?

What chance that vision I have of playing left midfield, (I was a centre forward )V Stenhousemuir, on trial, at Celtic Park, hitting into the Jock Stein End, and Tommy Burns was the manager, it was raining, I made a bad first touch, but then came onto a game and set up a goal, left footed cross, for BJMac to score with a diving header, is true?

  24. from tsfm site- the impending pendulum for sevcovians, the ratbags:

“LNS to rule soon on club status & future scale of punishments,

Perhaps this particular subject matter is too emotionally delicate & has created a conflict of interest situation with the individual mod or mods..?”
