There is a spreadsheet on file at every club with the anticipated sale value of each player on it. This value often has nothing to do with how important the player is to the club, or even how good he is, it is a hard assessment of what the market will pay.
Kristoffer Ajer, for example, could end up at a tier one club next season, but his price tag will be inhibited by only having 12 months left on his Celtic contract. James Forrest is also a talent and has two years remaining on his current deal. James, though, will turn 30 in July. The time Spurs managers travel to Glasgow to watching his passed.
Younger players with plenty on their contracts are not assured money either. Ismaila Soro (22) has three years left on his contract but the spreadsheet at Celtic is unlikely to have a figure as high as we paid for him last year; Ismaila just has not played enough football to merit a reflective increase in value.
Market health is also a factor. There is seemingly endless supply of debt to those tier one clubs, but the game in most of Europe is on its knees. What would we expect from a French club for the likes of Olivier Ntcham, after the collapse of their TV deal?
Which brings us Patryk Klimala. I like Patryk, his willingness to show for the ball and bust a lung to get back and find space was a refreshing change of pace from much of what we watched this season. Various coaches didn’t think he had what it takes for Celtic, so his chances were limited and an exit increasingly likely.
We paid £3.5m for him; I expected to collect around a third of that when he moved on, not the entire sum we got back from New York Red Bulls. That’s nothing, to the £10m Bayer Leverkusen paid for Jeremie Frimpong in January, a player I wanted dropped and replaced. The keeper of Celtic’s spreadsheet has enjoyed updating a column this week.
I wonder if New York or Bayer want a goalkeeper with Champions League and European international experience?

St Johnstone have a very real chance of winning more trophies than Slippy this season. Wonder if their manager will be linked with the Liverpool job…
Watched most of that game. Once more I’m frustrated that we let that shower of dung beat us.
Also laughing my head off.
THAT’L DO

What score in the penalties.
A Celtic Board and the Support, United, would be unstoppable.
I’m afraid to say this Board is not fit for purpose.
Amazing!! Absolutely delighted 👍🏼
heard fire works going off locally and assummed that the huns had won.
Naughty tims trolling the huns?
Tavernier (missed pen)
I just can’t get enough…….laughing so much.
If only we had not thrown in the towel…if only…if only….if only.
St Johnstone for the double and confirming their place as second to Celtic in trophies won in the last ten years…..think I’m correct.
Still Invincibles remember….
Fekin Ram it Bunty.
That’s one of the few good moments this season.
Some fireworks going off in Hamilton too. Someone at the wind up hopefully
If we showed half the commitment St. Johnstone showed it might have been us playing a Q final this weekend.
Announce Eddie Howe tomorrow please…
I’m raging that I’ve only got alcohol free beers left in the house. I could have fair raises a glass
I know it’s not the same club but it’s the same fans can’t beat a bit of hun rage
Just shows how piss poor we’ve been this season.
Deary me.
Our incompetence has allowed a team that cannot handle pressure to canter to a league title. Galling.
Yes yes they won the important one, but 1 trophy in 9 isn’t a great return for Gerrard
Maybe all those trebles against rubbish opposition weren’t so difficult after all
Selling for a friend hunners o fireworks pm me for details.
Easy, not difficult!
Just raising a wee glass to St Johnstone. Just made my day, week and year. (Sad, I know, but that’s how I feel.)
John Kennedy to be announced tomorrow.
Not had a lot to smile about this season but today is one of them
Good riddance huns

Just called my Dad to tell him his childhood home team had done its duty to mankind.
Hard work, togetherness, application.
St J’s efforts only serve to further shame our own (lack of)

The Big Two = Celtic and St. Johnstone
Manager of the year = Callum Davidson
Will the racist abuse Roofe will get, be reported?
Cue the following comments from SMSM.
“Excellent result for the wider game in Scotland”
“What a truly wonderful story”
“It’s always refreshing when a provincial club wins a trophy”
“Smaller clubs matching bigger clubs in one-off games is a sign of real strength in depth in the national sport”
……… Or perhaps not.
The regression in Europe in the only games that Celtic Supporters truly Love, has been shocking whilst there has been a burgeoning bank balance – ST’s going up in price All the Time.
Seriously. Whats going on?
Tav (pen) missed was Ironic.
I’d say Iconic. :)

GEEBEE, been thinking roughly the same thing for ages.
This no-mark has been here three seasons, gone for NINE domestic trophies and has won only ONE of them, yet we are to believe that he is the new hot managerial property in Engurland! In whose dreams?
If any club takes a punt on him (only because of his Liverpool playing record, lets be honest) they are numpties and will regret it big style!!
how many seconds till sportscene?
Did a favour for an old family friend over the weekend.
It was a big job but got it finished today. The poor bloke wanted to pay
me but I told him instead to say a wee prayer that the Huns would get knocked
out. Seems to have worked!!!! As has been said, sad to think this is what we celebrate this
season but there it is. GIRFUY you Hun *a$t!rds.
