There is a spreadsheet on file at every club with the anticipated sale value of each player on it. This value often has nothing to do with how important the player is to the club, or even how good he is, it is a hard assessment of what the market will pay.
Kristoffer Ajer, for example, could end up at a tier one club next season, but his price tag will be inhibited by only having 12 months left on his Celtic contract. James Forrest is also a talent and has two years remaining on his current deal. James, though, will turn 30 in July. The time Spurs managers travel to Glasgow to watching his passed.
Younger players with plenty on their contracts are not assured money either. Ismaila Soro (22) has three years left on his contract but the spreadsheet at Celtic is unlikely to have a figure as high as we paid for him last year; Ismaila just has not played enough football to merit a reflective increase in value.
Market health is also a factor. There is seemingly endless supply of debt to those tier one clubs, but the game in most of Europe is on its knees. What would we expect from a French club for the likes of Olivier Ntcham, after the collapse of their TV deal?
Which brings us Patryk Klimala. I like Patryk, his willingness to show for the ball and bust a lung to get back and find space was a refreshing change of pace from much of what we watched this season. Various coaches didn’t think he had what it takes for Celtic, so his chances were limited and an exit increasingly likely.
We paid £3.5m for him; I expected to collect around a third of that when he moved on, not the entire sum we got back from New York Red Bulls. That’s nothing, to the £10m Bayer Leverkusen paid for Jeremie Frimpong in January, a player I wanted dropped and replaced. The keeper of Celtic’s spreadsheet has enjoyed updating a column this week.
I wonder if New York or Bayer want a goalkeeper with Champions League and European international experience?

I just started series 3 of Breaking Bad – happy days.

At least six of our opponents will be in receipt of ‘parachute payments’ from EPL1 – these payments last three years.
All three relegated teams will have lower revenues than us this year even allowing for parachute payments, which will be higher than the teams spending a second or third season in the championship.
Even before covid the championship was full of clubs with their arses hanging out of their trousers.
does anyone really think that having a starting XI made up of 6 or 7 scottiah players would finish anywhere near the top of the english championship these days?
no chance
its the squad that needs to change before we think about changing leagues
I have longed for years for us to play in another league. We all know only too well that things are stacked against us here. That is not going to change. While it might take a few seasons for us to move up the table(s) hopefully we would enjoy a level playing field for once.
Bamboo,
You are a madman. No use beating about the bush.Stone mad,no other explanation.
Talking of the championship Brentford won again today but Toney didn’t score. 1 goal in 10 now if you exclude penalties, 21 in 41 in the league.
Maybe not the cure all he was made out to be
Celtic Park to host this seasons Scottish Cup final with % of fans allowed?
Celtic40 me,
Toney has scored 29 goals and has had 12 assists this season.Voted MOTM,again today.I watched the game. His runs, link up play, work rate,,even his defensive headers at set pieces for Brentfordare invaluable to them.
Edouard’would have been ashamed watching the guys effort all season after his shocking ,lazy performances.
Yes we most certainly screwed up.
agree re Ivan Toney , and to think we had to coax that imposter ajeti to join us and as for Eddie , what a waster this season
Edouard had to overcome the obstacles of, (in no particular order of importance)
– testing positive for Covid
– Living in a foreign country where English is his second language
– Neil Lennon’s aversion to coaching or tactics
– the signing of Duffy, Ajeti & Laxhalt
Despite these handicaps he will finish the season as top goalscorer & remains by some distance our best player
Ivan Toney’s goals have propelled Brentford to the same play off position they failed to profit from last season
I know who will have the better career in top level football
LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE on 24TH APRIL 2021 8:11 PM
On price tag and reputation we would have had four scots in our starting line up this season
Brown, Macgregor, Forrest and Christie would be in any team in the championship. Pukki and McLean are first team starters for Norwich.
Pukki is actually one goal off Toney for goals scored less penalties.
Turkeybhoy
He’s stopped scoring from open play. He’s got one more goal than Pukki this season if you exclude penalties
Whether he’d have done better than Edouard this season, who he’d have replaced, we’ll never know but it’s by no means a certainty that scoring goals in the championship fir a small club translates to goals for Celtic. You only have to look at Pukki to see that
CELTIC40ME on 24TH APRIL 2021 8:00 PM
Are you aware that the payout for the bottom three clubs, the relegated clubs in the EPL, is c£100m EACH per season? The CHAMPIONS in Scotland receive c£3m.
Parachute payments for EPL relegation are c£100m spread over 3/4 years. So in theory there could be SIX, or, even, NINE clubs in an EPL2 getting an equal share with us (if we happened to be there) PLUS their residual parachute payments from the EPL.
Maccargo: Condolences to you on the death of your father.
Ar dheis lámh Dhé go raibh a anam uasal.
Brown, Macgregor, Forrest and Christie would be in any team in the championship.

honestly mate
do you ever watch the championship?
brown is the only one of them that could have maybe done a job there with the right players around him
as for the rest?
no chance, they would fall over in the tunnel when they seen that they were up against proper athletes

if we had any baws we would say naw
but we have nae baws
We don’t need the Huns and would improve in every aspect without them. Dump them, and ditch the lie of the OF, the 2 sides of the one coin, one side is as bad as the other, and all the whatabouttary and the other lies that go with it. They only became a ‘big’ club when they saw the opportunity to replace Queen’s Park as the establishment club and an expression of hatred for all things Irish and all things Catholic. They only get away with it because of the corrupt establishment thinking on Scotland. Proof of it is how the Big Lie of 55 is now pushed by the MSM – sad.

Statement by EFL Chairman
“We have six clubs in the Championship receiving parachute payments which means on average they get £40m per club; the other 18 get £4.5m each” 5 May 2020
Great!!!!
There is no doubt how easy it is to get used to it – and no doubt how much good it does. Regularity is the key!!!
Brown isn’t good enough to be in our poor team, no chance he’s making it in the English Championship
JHB on 24TH APRIL 2021 9:03 PM
Yes, I did know they made 100m, but that has no relevance to the amount they receive in the championship
In the first year the parachute payment is 55% of the share of base amount from the deal, reckoned to be 40m.
Fag packet calculations, from memory Bournemouth had revenues of 130m, of which 105 was tv revenue. Our revenues would be higher than 65m before tv income
the parachute payments actually make a bit of sense
i can see why they do it
though that doesnt help the rest of the teams in the championship when they teams get relegated back down there
Brown isn’t good enough to be in our poor team, no chance he’s making it in the English Championship

not now obviously
but in his day playing with the right players?
yes

…..and im thinking of objecting justt so i dont have to go to the Alistair McCoist complex!
LETS ALL, I was there on Wednesday for my second jab, but couldn’t see the Fat Gardener anywhere in sight, so it’s safe enough!
I’d assumed the comment was about today’s team not the past.
Forrest would’ve made it, and should’ve went down south. Same with Calum. Both players are better than Armstrong, and McCarthur, McCarthy etc.

Quite
Norwich’s turnover was 33m the last time they were in the championship with no covid and no parachute payments

Suspicious of these people.
Another Union Flag up a new pole in THE FRONT GARDEN now. What are these quiet respectable neighbours trying to tell me.
SAINT STIVS, they’re trying to tell you they are Huns! Wonder how they would react if you put the Tricolour up?
LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE on 24TH APRIL 2021 9:10 PM
Kenny McClean has 36 appearances for the runaway champions of the championship.
Do you really think none of our three Scottish midfielders would get a game ahead of him

SAINT STIVS thanks for putting that up, one of the GREAT night from the BLESSED MARTIN’s reign.

a matter of opinion
but who would i rather have in my midfield?
forrest and mcgregor
or any 2 from armstrong mccarthur and mccarthy?
easy answer for me
but we will agree to differ
no proof either way

still cant believe they named it after him!

—————-
Their parachute payments(PP) from 2016 had ran out. They were one of the 18 clubs with no PP – however there were six with PP.
The point I make is supposing Celtic turnover of £70m – remember no Europe – there would still be at least six clubs with current PPs with larger revenues.
in fact the championship clubs cant complain about parachute payments for relegated clubs
because they know they would need the guarantee of parachute payments if they were to get promoted to the premiership
so they all know the score

I know. I’m showing what they turnover (including tv money) in a season in the championship without a parachute payment. Leeds turnover 40m, probably higher than anyone else. Bournemouth’s revenues were 25m out with the tv money in the prem,

We’d be in Europe for the first season.
That’s a very arbitrary figure. You’re taking off 20m for Europe and adding nothing for extra tv money, increase in match day sales, merchandise sales, better sponsorship deals.

Good God when you analyse the squad the next Manager will have to dig deep
HH
I’d love to see Celtic play in the EPL, but to think we could win it is unfortunately pie in the sky.
The very top teams down there are either heavily subsidised by a sugar daddy or are up to their neck in debt.
1) Desmond never has or never will bankroll the team to that extent
2) Desmond will never allow us to get into debt ever again
3) Desmonds operandi is simply to tread water as far as the actual football goes and hope to make lots of money with “projects”
He’d be quite happy with mid table mediocrity
Good God when you analyse the squad the next Manager will have to dig deep

which might be the reason why we havent got a new manager yet
any top manager with season ticket selling abilities wouldnt touch the job with a large stick because the squad isnt great and they wont be given the funds to sort it
so i reckon our new manager will have a bit of the ‘mehhh’ factor when he or she gets announced
a new ronny deila moment is coming….
