The Talismanic Trip and the Holy Grail

287

Celtic’s world has changed greatly since that moment during the first half at Ibrox on 2 January, with the team well on top, the commentator mentioned they were off to Dubai after the game.  Celtic’s dominance did not produce a goal and the game was lost.  In the days that followed, a second lockdown was announced, Dubai’s status in the Green Corridor was rescinded, Christopher Jullien became infected and 13 players were forced to isolate.  The dominoes continued to fall with Hibs added-time equalise, while we await the outcome against Livingston.

We knew Celtic were off to Dubai for weeks before the post-match flight.  Personally, I did not bat an eyelid at the prospect.  Very few of us did, remarkably so, considering the angst expressed post-defeat, post First Minister’s “I don’t know, but…” innuendo.  After event-ism is often fertile.

I have always thought it is the manager’s job to ask for what is in the interests of the football department irrespective of wider consequence.  Of course Neil wanted to go to Dubai, last season’s trip is seen as crucial to winning the title.  Similarly, it is Peter Lawwell’s job to ensure that what the football department gets is only what is in the best interests of the club, and on occasion, wider society.

A public apology from Peter is a rare thing, so we can be sure where responsibility lies on this matter.  He should have said “No”, but like so much of what has gone wrong recently, wider considerations were set aside in pursuit of the Holy Grail.

With Celtic playing well and the title still in their own hands, Peter was never going to stop the Talismanic Trip, not this season, anyway.  Would I have said “No”?  Would you?  It is an easy question to answer on 14 January.  Reality is, I am as confilcted by pursuit of the Holy Grail as much as anyone.  I know I would cross lines that would normally be observed, so would we all.  Maybe this would have been one, who knows?

Leadership involves making difficult calls and apologising when you miss them.  This is not Peter’s first mistake and despite the political grandstanding it permitted, it is not remotely his most onerous.  History may regard blind pursuit of the Holy Grail as more consequential.

If one can’t wear a face covering for a 20 minute shop then get someone else to shop for them. There are numerous options out there from on- line to support organisations.

Better being uncomfortable for 20 mins than spreading on the virus which may result in a death.

Call me a barstewad if you want but I’ve seen at close hand what this pandemic can do.

    …………………….

GENE, You are so wrong on so many counts.

I live alone and I have NO ONE to rely on to do my shopping, as I dont have any family etc to speak of. Its FACT that DAVID66 and his good lady were kind enough to do my shopping last year for food when i was having serious problems trying to get Tesco delivery Slots due to those SELFISH People Panic Buying….However, In recent months ( maybe ONCE every 10/14 days ), I do venture out to my local shop 40/50 yards away, IF I need FRESH Milk/Bread etc. I DO wear a mask as that ” Shop” is only for a couple of minutes….unlike before Christmas 2020 when I was shopping in Town for new Bedding and New Clothes etc.

During those shopping trips I was maybe in some stores for a lot longer than 20 Minutes, so therefore due to my poor health, I really struggled to keep a Mask on, and would ask Staff for a Chair etc. I did my best NOT to breath on anyone while in the shops.

I can NOT Justify asking DAVID66 to drive all the way here to my home and back home again just to get me a Pint of Milk ?

The other ” Factor” that you havent considered is this…..Apart from maybe 3 trips to the shops in the Town before Christmas, and popping out for Fresh Milk etc…I have been in ISOLATION alone in my home since October 9th 2020, so as uncomfortable as those shopping trips were/are…It was just a relief/JOY to actually speak to another human being ” Face to Face” after WEEKS of NOT being able to speak to anyone.

BEFORE you or anyone else suggests that my shopping in town for NEW Bedding and some Clothes before Christmas was NOT essential….I would strongly disagree as I alone…KNOW what my situation was in relation to needing new Bedding and some T shirts and Joggies at that particular time.

I cant NOT go out for ” Exercise” as my health issues do NOT allow me to ” Exercise” other than very short periods of walking very slowly, so I am literally stuck at home ALONE for over 3 Months now…and counting.

I will continue to wear a Mask for 5 Minutes or so in a shop, IF that is how long the shop takes….and I also feel that I do NOT have to go shopping in Town at this time for maybe 2 hours or so, so there is NO Need for me to carry an Exemption Card at this time…However, if I am somehow ” Forced” to be in a shop for 10/15/20 minutes or more, I KNOW that I will struggle to wear a Mask…and I will ” USE” the Exemption Card IF I have to ?

A good wee read back and many thanks again for all the kind words.

Livvy tomorrow at paradise bring it on. A chance for our B – Team to make amends.

I never look at anyone losing their job as anything other than disastrous but to lead to that point the employee must have fecked up.

Unfortunately Lenny and his management team have had a disastrous season and have been enabled to do so under PL’s watch.

So if and it’s a big if heads are starting to roll then so be it, it will allow us to start building for the future.

Hail Hail and stay safe out there guys.

Can’t remember if it was 7/1 or 9/1!!!!.

If i bet a winner at 9s I’d have the slip framed and up on ma wall..✊

    ……………….

Over the years I have had ” Single” Bets at ODDS of 150/1 to come up. in 2008, I had a Horse Racing ” Forecast” at Aintree come up that paid out at Odds of….801/1…When my selected Horses finished 1st and 2nd. The winner won at odds of 25/1…and the Horse that finished 2nd was odds of 40/1…..

I was the ” Talk” of the Pub when THAT Bookie Line came up LOL.

One Saturday when Paddy Roberts was with Celtic ( Around 2015 ? ), we were playing against Aberdeen at Celtic Park.

I had ONE football bet that day…” Paddy Roberts to score 1st…and Celtic to Win by 3-2…FIRST goalscorer and Correct Score ” Scorecast” and, wee Paddy DID score first, and Celtic raced to a 3-0 lead and in complete control. I thought my Bet was beat, although it didnt matter as I just wanted Celtic to win obviously…but THEN Aberdeen scored TWO Late Goals…and all of a sudden Celtic were ” Hanging On”…and we did, for the 3-2 victory.

So my Bet came up at at Odds of 112/1.

When Aberdeen pulled one goal back, one or two Guys offered to but my Bookies Line from me…I resisted.

When Aberdeen scored their 2nd Gaol with just a few minutes left..those same Guys were offering me even more Money to ” Buy my Line” from me…again I resisted and the game finished 3-2 to Celtic.

That was a Sweet Victory that Day especially with the Winning Bet LOL.

    ……….

    Cheers mate.

I WILL wear a Mask as often as I can, because I do try to think and consider others well being due to this Covid. But I do struggle after 10 minutes or so, and I cant breathe and I get into a mini Panic.

Sadly, there are people who do NOT live alone and have NO Family etc to speak to ( even outside) during this Pandemic, who FORGET how difficult it is to live like this ?

I am the first to admit that I am ” USED” to being on my own, so I am Luckier than many folk….as I can just about get thru each day of being on my own…WITHOUT going Nuts LOL !

However, I must admit there have been some days ( and there is many more to come)…when I feel that I would GLADLY Pay £10 for a Pint of Beer in a Pub…and maybe have 5 or 6 Beers…JUST to actually speak to other Human Beings…and maybe even some… Hun Folk …LOL ?

I hope that my Pub Landlord isnt reading this…..or he may be tempted to raise his prices in future ?

    Stay safe Mate.

  17. I heard on RTÉ Lyric FM radio this morning a story about a woman in Waterford. Every morning she takes her 88 year old mother to visit her husband’s grave, the route means passing a Garda checkpoint who enquires every day ‘where are you going?’. Her 88 year old mother is sick of repeating the same story twice each day so decides to make a sign, which she holds up to the car window as it approaches the Garda checkpoint. On the way to the graveyard it reads ‘going to the grave’ and on the way back she turns it round and it reads, ‘back from the grave’. It gave me a good laugh any way and as she says it gives the Guards a good laugh too!

I’m not religious so don’t care about the Pope thing ( although it would be a laugh) but I did predict to mates on Whatsapp that my hopes for 2020/21 were, 10 IAR, an independent Scotland and to get a redundancy package from work. I hope the other two don’t go the way of the 10 and still have hopes for 21.
