This, my friends in Celtic, is what you call a journey

889

The heat was suffocating, it was 35° and city was heaving.  On the long walk out of town some enterprising locals were selling water or cola to the increasingly dehydrated caravan of people.  I passed a few, not willing to succumb to extortionate opportunism, but soon gave in.

I walked into an orange tree earlier that day.  Caught between taking directions from a policeman and setting off in a new direction I’d overlooked the towering obstacle a yard in front of me.  There’d been a spring in my step, I must have bounced into the bark.  Trees are hard.  I fell.

The return journey was made in the cool of the night.  For the first few miles we were a uniformed flow of humanity but eventually the crowd thinned.  We walked through residential streets with locals at their doors and windows.  They applauded as we passed.  Few of us are ever part of something substantial enough that uninvolved observers openly applaud you.  Such memories endure.

I’d an early rise and a long drive with a full car ahead the next day.  The bedroom was packed, floor space was given over to spare bedding, the hotels must have shipped mattresses in from a hundred kilometres radius, so with the others in the bar, I took myself off for a shower.

I met a German couple in the elevator.  “Are you disappointed?” the woman asked.  “No, we played well and were beaten by a good team.”  It was the perfect answer.  These people must have been horrified when they noticed the throng which would dominate their trip, but they’d become part of the story, part of the throng.  The answer was honestly given, although disappointment would come later.  I went on, “We lost a minor cup final nine years ago, that was real disappointment”.

I surprised myself by what my memory spontaneously threw up when asked about disappointment.  Looking back now, that minor cup final is no more than a touchstone, and indicator of where we were before the Generation of Domination got underway.  It’s lost its power to inflict negative emotion.  If I met the German couple once more I could again tell them I wasn’t disappointed with that day in the blistering heat.  It’s one of my proudest memories, and we soon learned we were beaten, narrowly, by a great team.

This, my friends in Celtic, is what you call a journey.

I spoke to fan liaison manager John Paul Taylor yesterday and mentioned I’d not renewed my season ticket yet.  I promised him I would today and that I’d pass the message on.  Deadline is tomorrow, after that people can ask for a move into your seat.  Consider yourself reminded!  We walk the next mile of the journey soon, with hope in our hearts, as always.

Many thanks to those who donated to Mary’s Meals yesterday, and to Magners.  The money raised in one day alone will feed over 30 of the world’s poorest school children for a year.

Ok give us your money and we will tell you after the new club come up where you will be sitting next season

Well that’s exactly what they have done to mini

  2. Does anyone really think that Mike Ashley is about to allow the £5M debt to lie unpaid – especially as the new club has broken the loan conditions.

And why would he renegotiate the merchandising deal when it currently makes him a nice profit?

    Sounds daft.

There’s pleanty of examples mate. Not happy about your supporters being called “sectarian”? Just change the meaning of the word “hun” to even things up. Look everybody! They’re just as bad as us!!

Well Dick King thinks so, and as I read one paper today, he says he is digging his heels in on the £5m loan,

Me thinks Dick is taking a revolver to a tank fight, and he will get his Dennis Lawes blown off, just my opinion .

I’m with you. The only thing that I can think of that justifies this is that even if they limit it them to 2k, they’re not sure how to place them with regard to stewarding etc.

I’m going to wait to see what actually transpires before I waste too much energy on it.

” Now that there’s a possibility of Newco being promoted, the same season tickets only cover 17 games as opposed to 19 with the option of buying tickets for the other two games at a yet to be confirmed price.”

    Is this confirmed?

    Is it section specific?

I think he’ll expect his money back with interest. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Interesting to look at King’s language talking about looking at the whole relationship with Sports Direct and not just the loan. He’ll obviously try to get out of any deal that’s currently in place. Whether he can or not remains to be seen. Whatever happens, a compliant press will simply report whatever good PR they can for sevco.

Yep that’s a definite. The missus’ Bhoy is in this category. His ST will only cover 17 of the 19 league games.

Personally I think it’s an easy for the club to keep most supporters happy. It would indicate that we’re treating them just as any other club.

I respectfully disagree that THEORIGINALSADIESBHOY is using the type of language you suggest for the reasons you suggest.

You know better than most my mineshafter credentials, but I’ve always qualified them in relation to the depth of feeling that others such as yourself have.

Equally, while happy to slate PL and the rest of the board over many many decisions that,as our board, they have taken in,as I see it,our name,I have never once advocated boycotting the club.

(OK,once. A personal one. Over the Rennes illicit singing fiasco. But DENA29 and !BADA BING! got me out of that bind.)

There are fewer and fewer happyclappers nowadays, bud. It’s a fact. You’ve witnessed criticism on here from posters you would not have believed, say, five years ago would ever do that.

Now,let’s have a wee fantasy scenario.

We all withdraw our financial support of Celtic so we can force out the board.

    Drive them to the wall.

So hard and fast in our resolve to get a board of real Celtic men on board.

That we send the PLC Nipples North.

Nae problem. Job done. Celtic men on board. On the board.

You are playing with fire on this,CANAMALAR. We cannot starve the club of funds because they f….d up-and I believe they did-because Celtic will be the losers. And we won’t get the hauners the huns got.

Though we might get owners like they got.

    Now,one final point.

If you want to buy into being a Celtic fan,do so. Whichever way you see fit. Buy a ticket or don’t. But don’t tell anyone they’re an idiot for doing so.

I spent years being told I was an idiot for still supporting Celtic. But that was from huns.

  20. BMCUW,

So what your telling me is the current board is the best we’ll get and we just need to get used to that and let them get on with ripping the soul out of the club, good for you, I disagree, I also disagree we would automatically end up with the same type of shysters that the hun like, I don’t believe our support are as stupid as the hun but obviously you don’t feel the same if our default would be shysters in charge.

Mustaqbal lost out last time to a nice type who went on to score by 5 lengths next time out despite a 5lb rise in the weights.

Last supper is a decent hurdling type but has decent turn of foot on flat. Think eady track tonight will be right up his street.

For some reason I’ve got two copies of The Godfather in the house.

You’re correct to a large extent. There are one or two parts of the book which are rubbish. For instance, the Las Vegas surgeon and Sonny’s ex. Adds nothing except that the mob could have a struck-off doctor re-instated.

Don’t forget that the rest of the book formed half of The Godfather II. Couldnae have been that bad!

  28. BMCUW,

My argument today was started by watching Morissey being told to buy his season ticket, so by the same token that you demand I stop advising why people should think about who they are actually supporting as opposed to who they want to support, maybe you need to look at what you are saying.

Res12 happened because this board abdicated responsibility beyond a token gesture to protect the shareholders interests, res12 is still ongoing because this board refuse to resource it even after they have received all the evidence they need to make it stick, is it any wonder I’m a bit miffed and seriously disillusioned by their inaction on all things to do with the support and shareholders ?
