Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

    On a more important matter.

Any recommendations for a tasty bite in the Byres Rd./ Ashton Lane area?

Would strongly recommend this place, Bar Gumbo down bottom end of Byrnes road on left as you walk down towards Dumbarton road. . Great setting, great food and live music, what’s not to like :))

    Good Evening all,

Can I just say how touched and grateful I am for all the messages, prayers, thoughts and stories of my dad which were posted yesterday.

My family were all knocked out about that.

Some have asked that I write up some stuff about him, which I will, but I am very conscious that this is not the Jim McGinley blog and that many people on here will have or have had fantastic parents about whom they could write or tell a story.

However, at another time, I will write up some of his stories and tales re Celtic, Glasgow and Ireland etc with some of the very funny escapades and people he knew.

For now can I just say a general thanks again. I have had many personal e-mails from so many good people and I will get round to answering each one….. honest.

Lastly, I know that some of my dad’s friends ( or their sons or daughters ) read these pages and so can I just say that his funeral mass will take place at St Peter’s Hyndland Street, Partick and 10:00am next Tuesday morning 25th March, and at 11:30 we will throw him in the fire ( his words ) at Dalnotter Crematorium Clydebank before going back to the Grosvenor Hilton at the top of Byres Road to have some lunch and generally tell stories about him in the most irreverent manner possible.

All welcome — especially those who knew him of old.

Cheers and thanks for yesterday again.

  3. Campbell Ogivie, Stewart Regan, David Murray and some geezer with mind boggling eyes have asked for more pictures from the bampot convention last week. Their dartboards eagerly await your cooperation in this matter.

Actually Mr White would probably have attended the bampot convention had he been invited.

A wee bit of background on the “wee Ranujurs” and this comes from a “Wick Academy till I die man” (so may be a bit biaised)……..

About 2yrs – 18months ago Brora were fortunate enough to be “sugar daddied” by an ex-committee member (not the Chairman) who’d made it big thru construction and with ties to Roy McGregor at Ross County.

Brora proceeded to snap up all the best talent on offer in the HFL including enticing several ex-SPL players with offers of semi-pro contracts.

Brora enticed/poached/stole unjustly, Academy manager Davie Kirkwood, under similar controversial conditions. It’s still a sore point in Wick yet.

The above has added a bit of spice to the Wick-Brora derby matches (next one this coming Weds night at Wick).

Brora are in line for a never before Treble this season, but this spoils it.

The Wick crowd have been rehearsing “Where’s your treble gone” for days now!!

    :-)

  17. What is it with some company’s in britland, trying to buy an Arbor Press from either ebay or amazon, and most won’t ship to Spain.

All they have to do is write a different address on the feckin thing, just can’t get the head around it, their loss, bought one from America @ half the price, and only 15 euros shipping.

Before I buy two new season books, I want someone at my club to ask the SFA or UEFA for a definitive statement on whether or not they legally view The Rangers as a new club with two leagues, or a continuation of the liquidated club. Simple as that, 2 or 56 leagues.

There can be no more fudged answers like ‘its a highly complex issue so lets leave it at that’ (Wishart)…no more radio pundits shouting down Celtic fans with ’54 and counting!’ (Johnstone). We know its all lies but the more the huns get away with these arrogant claims, the more they believe it.

Having cheated us out of trophies, they now laugh in our faces. In fact they get away with everything we never would.

So it seems PL is content to let the huns and their media lackeys shout all they want, content that they are a new club. Well its not enough. Next season the 56 banners will be flying over there, and got forbid ’34 cups’ too.

If this blatant flaunting is allowed to happen, I will regard the SFA as complicit in the whole scandal, and Celtic FC too by their silence.

I will not attend another football match in Scotland until I’m convinced that every club and company is treated equally.

The whole farce has gone on too long. Put an end to it once and for all and let them get over it.

Have Celtic played Middlesboro in a competitive match? Working with a great bunch of Boro fans this week. Four of the five like Celtic. The wee ugly mouthy one, likes a two year old Glasgow team. :)
