Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Photos are in from CQteN, great work by Geo, as usual. Click on the photo to see hi-res. More to come:

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

    This could get interesting.

    Just seen on TSFM

Doubt this would have happened if they were ‘THE’ Rangers.

I am holding out some hope that Brora will perhaps put forward the Bryson defense if the SFA and HFL the lad’s original registration was accepted and the error was discovered later. It was clearly discovered after the game was played.

That would throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

Perhaps a email from Auldheid and others to the Brora Chairman may be in order??

    http://www.northern-times.co.uk/News/Brora-Rangers-consider-legal-action-over-cup-expulsion-20032014.htm

BRORA Rangers are to consider taking legal action against the Highland Football League unless the club is reinstated in the Highland League Cup.

It follows a decision taken at an emergency meeting of the HFL on Monday night to expel the team from the cup for fielding an ineligible player.

Youngster Liam Watt came on in Brora’s 3-0 victory over Clachnacuddin in the preliminary round earlier this month.

By a majority vote the committee decided to award the tie to Clach – a decision which has angered Brora Rangers club chairman John Young.

He said: “Liam was brought on in the dying minutes of the game. Brora were winning 3-0 at the time. We later discovered that the player was not properly registered, due to an oversight by the club, the first such occurrence in over 20 years.

“While we fully accept this oversight, it is only right to expect any sanction to be fair.

“This decision simply beggars belief. We have been subject to a decision being made behind closed doors.

“We are even denied the basic right to appeal by both the HFL and SFA (Scottish Football Association). There is no justice in this whatsoever.

“This is about fair play in sport. We have sought legal advice and will be asking the HFL to revoke its decision.

“We fully intend to take this all the way – our players, management and supporters deserve nothing less.”

The club have instructed a solicitor, who has written to HFL president Finlay Noble, demanding that the decision is rescinded.

    HT,

Is T M’s in byres Rd or AL?

    PS.

What the huns practiced was despicable, but, sad to say, wasn’t against the rules of the game or the law of the land.

What the SFA have sanctioned falls foul of both of these criteria,.

Therefore, in effect, it is worse and despicable.

    Yes.Agreed.

But that is not going to demonstrate why their revenue is down.

Negative publicity is what is required.

The involvement of other clubs would be very helpful.

I love Italian food, I should, as my mother was Italian, but I never enjoy it as much as I do at home…..and the helpings are bigger.

Depends what you like. HT and Hebcelt’s choices are fine but if you fancy something fairly traditional you could try The Bothy which is in Ruthven Lane opposite Hillhead Subway.

If you’re not paying Bovine is good for steaks. It’s part of the Hilton and is at the top of Byres Road. Oh and it also does sea food.
