Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven. Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans. He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.
It’s all about the system
Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy. He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.
I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game. The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.
United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.
This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season. They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.
It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.

FROM ACCIESS WWW – looks like game ok
SATURDAY 8am UPDATE – Pitch is being cleared of overnight light snow. This isn’t presenting a problem. All main road access routes to stadium are fine. Parking at Caird St / Beckford St then a 5 min walk to the ground. As it stands we are ok. [There is slight snow flurry forecast for 9am ish, but it is forecast dry and temperature +1 thereafter till kick off.] There is no inspection planned as things stand.

Disgraceful (but not surprising) response from the police last night, and the usual cover up from the media. Not being paranoid but it would be a whole different story if it was us, though I genuinely dont think our support would conduct themselves in that manner.

Any news on how the SMSM are reporting the disturbances in Govan last night? The SKY guy last night was well into one’s as bad as the other mode. He was about to say that the hun hordes attacked the Hearts fans inside the ground, checked himself and said instead that fighting broke out between the rival fans. The BBC, as far as I am aware, ignored completely what happened inside the ground and merely reported that the home support called for the dismissal of the Board outside the main entrance.

I can honestly understand your dilemma. I was resigned to watching the semi on TV and was happy at that. I wasn’t getting a ticket so no decision to make. Then my son and I received a letter from Celtic offering us tickets. We discussed it and finally decided, we’re Celtic supporters. We go to all home games and some away. We go to see and support Celtic. The opposition is irrelevant.
Decision made. We’re going. We will wear no colours and take the car and hopefully enjoy a Celtic victory in their first game against the other mob and then look forward to the final.

The media are covering it up , the police are not carrying out their duties and the football authorities will do nothing about last night incidents at Ibrox .
The semi final will provide these animals with another platform to express their rage at the fact that they let their club die .
Celtic should be demanding increased levels of security for the team and our supporters for this game and making sure our club are not dragged into another shame game style scenario where we end up taking most of the blame and our supporters suffer the consequences.
It’s time to force the police and the football authorities to do their job .
