Trashing a historic football club in two easy steps

605

I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year.  They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.

With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club.  Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.

If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top.  Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion.  Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.

Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision.  ‘Mad’ is another word you could use.  Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one.  John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions.  Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.

Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

  1. Good evening CHAMPIONS

Just read Angela Haggerty’s tweet re Cardinalll O’Brien has been accused of inappropriate behaviour in his past life. How convenient for tomorrow’s tabloids.

  2. TET, sometimes both opinions, however divided can be right.

The Bill is at the heart of this, mention the IRA on a Celtic blog or at a Celtic game will see you criminalised, Paul67 has to abide by the law. Is that law a good law, Hell no.

Should a mention of the IRA see you criminalised, Hell no.

    Pragmatist v Idealist.

    Neither are wrong.

The general public demonise the IRA, rightly or wrongly they do, this come into the “I’m offended legislation”

Sometime this legislation will be challenged in a European court, they will throw it out with disdain, on many levels, the songs break a law contrived to make them a crime at a football game, this law is the issue, in my opinion.

  3. Going to bed now, I expect there will be thousands of doors getting kicked in at 6 o’clock tomorrow after the vast minority of TRIFC’s fans hate filled racist/sectarian singing yesterday and I need my beauty sleep.

  4. Hail hail all have been reading back and my two penny worth is … Let the people sing…. And impeach bawface… And COYBIG tomorrow … Does this add to the debate? … Nah not really but it’s who I am ….hey ho and good night all celts everywhere

  5. Doc

The legitimacy of this law is questionable, it is in my opinion woolier than a highland sheep, is that intentionally so? Perhaps, but that is akin to to the vast majority of statute, my difficulty with it all is how this piece of legislation is being so vigorously enforced in certain parts of the country. Only those who are participating in such enforcement can enlighten us to why that is so.

    Night all

  6. While we moderate our own

    …on this Dear Green Place,(generally)

…………..we have no idea who sleekitly monitor us.

Such is our significance, to scoddland’s shame.

We must be doing something right.

  7. Doc

Aye, I agree the bill is at the heart of things, I just can’t get my head around why we have to fight with each other all the time.

I keep hearing the all inclusive mantra, bollix, all inclusive if you leave this bit out, and this bit out, and all inclusive as long as it is in keeping with the way I think….Some folk need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

  8. If Sevco are truly embarrassed and shamed by the behaviour of the fans, even if it were only ‘a section of their support’, they should come straight out and say it.

    No mincing words.

No prettying it up to make it more pallitable.

Make an unequivocal statement, specifying precisely the songs in question and the offensive features of each one, directing the support to cease singing such songs immediately. Instruct the fans who wish to sing such songs that they are not welcome at your games and direct them not to come.

    Aye right!

Chuckles is a business man and knows only too well that if he did so he’d have no support whatsoever.

Be honest Chuckles, you have fed this fire ever since you took the reins.

Almost everything you have said and done since you took charge has poured more fuel on the bitter, seething, burning fire of hatred at the heart of the Govan club.

But be careful Chuckles. Playing with fire gets your fingers (& a whole lot more) burned….

  9. Che, the legitimacy of the law will fall at European level, it is being persuade at this level because the Government of the day have an agenda,. How would the European Union accept a newly Free Scotland with with sectarian crime figures, especially the ones they lost.

Do you want me to email them to you? Not the exact stuff, but the raw material is available.

I emailed my local councillor with this, waste if time.

  10. My favourite radio broadcaster is the Arab-Jim Spence. I love his enthusiasm, his love of ska and his mad barnet. Even better he frequently took on Jabba and showed him up for what he is…a sevconian!

I have no love for Dundee and I’ll spare them no thought tomorrow; Spencey informed me-via the airwaves- they were they original ‘establishment’ club and now ole bummer brown is in charge. “Hell fire it intae them” as my auld gran would say.

The dive of Shiels to cheat and get a penalty from Murray is pathetic and I am glad it was live on TV.In the lowest tier of Scottish football but we’ll bring in the usual Masonic clan to sort it out if we fall behind. hahahahahaha

  12. …just read the Binman’s, rubbish

    collars an’ cuffs don’t match!

He of limited ability is allowed to obfuscate and underplay the vile issue at hand. Repeatedly.

    …Collusion.

    Shameful.

  13. TET,

Let the People Sing! but not this song, or this one, no sorry not this one.

Do they break laws, well yes, but only the contrived one.

As I said I defend Paul67’s stance, it is understandable, the blog is a great one, the best for me. It has to live within the laws of the land, so what to do.

The Bill is a bad piece of legislation, in needs to be rescinded, but will it be?

  14. Just back from Cork v Tipp hurling game played in Cork to-night. Cork won so I’m happy but I’ll refrain from posting any lyrics to celebrate the occasion.

So the Govan brigade have been caught singing sectarian songs in Berwick?

It must have been more extreme than the suggested 30 seconds or so for espn to give it such air time.

    You watching mr salmond?

    Cos your cabinet secretary isn’t.

    ……………..

Must be time for a summit or summat?

  16. From a fools mouth…

Asked him about the singing today, and he said that they were told by Strathclyde Police to listen out for Sectarian singing. He said the Northumbria police had no idea of the bad songs. But the police sent down from Strathclyde were guiding them and pointing out the songs.

He also said that some of our fans will get a knock at the door in the near future, as they have loads on film. The other thing he told me was while at the game today 2 men with Rangers ties on came round to where our fans were. He said one of them was a David Melville, whom he said was something to do with Rangers security.

He said fellow Rangers fans were grassing to Melville about the songs that some of our fans were singing. Also people were phoning up about the songs, and that is why he came round and spoke to some of our fans and the police.

Do we break the law by posting these songs on here?

Do I break the law living in England by pasting these songs?

    I am confused?

  19. Corkcelt,

You are one of the few posters I don’t scroll by.

    Let it go man.

    Paul’s site. Paul’s rules.

By the way, stick to the hurling cause ye won’t be beating Donegal anytime soon at the football ;)

  20. Mr Spence is an extremely bright professional proponent of common sense.

He despatched the boul’ jum with ease.

  21. Doc

We as posters are responsible for what we post.

The host is NOT responsible, be it CQN, Facebook or FF.

A host site may well be asked to moderate the contents, but it is not responsible for what posters post, that falls on the poster.

In saying that, I have no wish to give our host any grief at all.

You have said it yourself, a contrived law, a law that has no standing other than in the minds of the offended, challenge it in any court that has any standing and it will be thrown in the trash where it belongs.

My problem is why would people want to pander to their contrived laws, they won’t stop at the songs…….. it will be the wearing of the Green next……………

I am not willing to give them that opportunity.

  22. If you get a chance, and if it comes to a theatre near you go and see #rabbitskin by a good friend of mine. Brilliant monologue. “Rangers Eddie” gets chinned as well. What’s not to like?

  23. Rieperman, am I not allowed to make a little joke about it. This is the first time I made any reference to it and only did so ‘cos I scrolled back and saw the issue featured strongly on blog tonight.

  24. I see we have the usual Saturday night aggression tonight. Grow up the lot of ye.

Paul’s site……Paul’s rules. Seemples. Night night Timland.

  25. Having had time to reflect over the past week

it is my conclusion that there is an effort

either directly or indirectly to neuter the Celtic support.

    Celtic should beware.

Do not take our support for granted.

  26. Big Cup Winners, Twas Natasoola, he & me have a bit of previous. One night a few months ago he was having a bit of argy bargey with The Exiled Tim (a self confessed alcoholic) and one of his replies to TET was “Have a Drink”. I got really offended over that post and left him know about it, since then we are not the best of friends.
