Trashing a historic football club in two easy steps

605

I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year.  They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.

With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club.  Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.

If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top.  Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion.  Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.

Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision.  ‘Mad’ is another word you could use.  Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one.  John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions.  Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.

Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

    roy croppie,

The most important remaining game this season is the quarter final of the Scottish Cup.The title is in the bag. This is an utter must for our fantastic fans.A green final in May doesnt bear thinking about.

Agree with your sentiments about celebration and remembrance. But if you don’t mind me saying the worst thing that anyone can do is isolate themselves and their contributions. Keep posting what you believe, their is still enough Celtic supporters who remember and will not be cowed into becoming just another football club.

I agree we have thrown away too many trophies in recent years that really should be on our hours list.

A nice double this year would be toasted all over Tim Land.

  7. The Exiled Tim,

I have often enjoyed your posts, your pool photos etc.

Tonight you talked about keyboard hard men, which , IMO, demeans you.

I live 20 minutes from Paradise, my life is in the west of Scotland. My family, my friends, my job, my reality.

I do not have the luxury of being somewhere else whilst pronouncing what it should be like back where I once lived.

I do not have the luxury of never having to pay for standing up for the courage of my convictions.

Being pragmatic does not require compliance or cowardice, it can mean intelligence and strategy.

My view may differ from yours, that is ok.

What is not, IMO, is those who abuse the privilege of posting on this site to spout bullying, political rhetoric, with no thought to the effect that it has on others. ( I am not blaming you here).

CQN is intrinsicly a very good thing.

Those who chose to abuse it, well, that/ they re unfortunate.

If that explains the use of the skull on the GB’s banners then I’m a very happy man :)

You will have to go a bit deeper, why does it demean me ?

I have never demeaned anyone who is an honest Tim, never would, I live where I live, my choice obviously, but geography has no bearing on my love for Celtic.

You will have to enlighten me, I am at a loss.

The blog is full of keyboard hardmen, as are all blogs, let everyone post what they want as long as it conforms to the rules, if some are complete whatevers, well they will be sent to the place where they are sent.

And I agree. CQN is a top quality blog, a bit slow sometimes, but once it gets going, there is nothing that can compare.

  11. 19 years ago Fergus McCann got smart regards some of the songbook.

19 years later some fans still ain’t got the smarts from Fergus.

Think smart. It won’t diminish your sense of self, nationhood, nor Celtic credentials.

But it WILL out-manoeuvre the enemies of Celtic, like Fergus has had Celtic doing for 19 years.

And look where we are now compared to then.

We’re clean, and loved far and wide; they’re wallowing in the filth of their own self-destructive stupidity.

All because we got smart. So catch up and shut up. And stay smart. ‘Cos we’re winning.

  12. There is absolutely no doubt that Celtic

    will continue to flourish.

My fear is that if they rip the heart out of the support

it will be diminished as a club inexorably.

Absolute cracker I’d say him and Boyce will be going the way of Donnelly in the summer with nice transfer fees. Couple of good strikers on the fringes as well & the best thing is all of our players WANT to play for the team most have turned down the 30 pieces from Windsor.

  14. Evening fholks,

Am going to stay away from the debate that was outbreaking this evening, but it’s a bit concerning, and I feel some are right to remind who was behind the issue in the first place, ie Anal Stools.

Back to what we all love….still hurting from the Juve game, and I think we all knew exactly how that would pan out. We play great football only to see mibbery undo us.

When we lose games, there are many criticisms of Lenny and the squad, ranging from player selection, to player commitment, and even to how to handle the mibbery.

Since Lenny took over the mibbery is handled with all the power we have on the pitch. Players take turn, carefully displaying that their open hands are on show as they approach the MIB because otherwise, they would quite simply be booked or worse, as happened to Lenny in a strange incident outwith public view, be reported afterwards for a miscellaneous charge.

This is my own video, but I don’t share it for “views” – couldn’t care less- the 2nd half demonstrates what I mean.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44Ta8ekk9k8&list=UU0z5apok_7R_L0YSu6rjTsw

Bearing in mind Lenny had the Juve defence running around like headless chickens in the first half before the MIB stepped in – bearing in mind he was the first manager to show how to counter the powerforce of Barca football – bearing in mind the relentless attempts of the hun collective to get him out of Scottish football – can we please take all this into account, and remember what a special manager we have running our club.
