Trashing a historic football club in two easy steps

605

I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year.  They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.

With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club.  Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.

If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top.  Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion.  Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.

Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision.  ‘Mad’ is another word you could use.  Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one.  John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions.  Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.

Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

He made the contrast between censorship of a certain Irish folk song, against the lack of censorship applied to the posts made by Kojo, and TSD. Personally, and I think Canamalar would agree with me, all should be free to post, and then we can all cast our judgements thereafter.

That an Irish folk song was deleted due to an argument raised by Ntassolla should be a concern for us all. It’s a sign of the times.

Censorship is being applied subjectively, which is a clear sign of regression if you associate it with 20th Century fascism, or an even more worrying scenario that it’s rearing it’s ugly head – 21st Century Oppression.

And on that note, time for me to hit the scratcher as I must head to the sheepie land tomorrow, where the grass is green, and the sheep are grey :))

I really feel that due to the turmoil at Dundee with Barry Smith’s departure and with the hunger and confidence in our squad, tomorrow will see a thrashing of October 57 proportions.

See you all for the game

As usual,a thoughtful and considered post.

Your comments reminded me of N.Z.,where men are men and sheep are nervous.

    Hope the censor`s not about.

The old Roman quote:Quis custodiat custodies?

    Who`s censoring the censors?

Can we have a small dose of fascism on the blog to balance the opposing viewpoint?

    How about Horst Wessel?

Am not going to ask you who Horst Wessel is? I’m going to assume that he’s the father of the finest breed of Aberdeenshire sheep…..and no doubt also produces some good sausage !

    A wee techy tip.

Celtic site:http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk – will furnish you with all mentions of the word Celtic on CQN only.

For the site archive which CQN maintain public.

Substitute the word Celtic with “Neil canamalar” and you will behold all occurrences of the word “plonker”.

Bloody annoying sheepies >:(( Before I eat half of Aberdeen’s Sunday shoppers alive I need to get rid of the rozzers. Very simple. I tell them the truth, and that I’m on my way, and they suddenly find a need to answer the 999 calls coming from the other end of the city. Got to love the rozzers :)))

The other half of Grampians’ Finest will be reading this and quickly applying for overtime under the new United Rozzers of Salmondville act, for work at Celtic Park tomorrow, where they can get bullet points for lifting 10 yr old Tims for wearing a smile during these years of hun tragedy.

  11. Morning all, small snow flurries in the cooool Chiltern…

If Dundee wanted to escape demotion you’d have thought several weeks ago they would have replaced their Manager with one of the many wylie, experienced ex-SPL mangers who seem to be kicking their heels.

How about during the mini break, when a veteran could have come in, got to know the squad and strengthened the team for the challenge ahead.

Seems a strange decision, the fact that John Brown was part of the team whose defiance, intransigence and obstuctivenes meant when Dundee got the nod they had no time for proper preperations for life in the SPL.

Still adds to the pleasure of a Tic victory this afternoon!

    From the Sunday Herald.

    Rangers sorry over sectarian chants

    Helen McArdle

    News Reporter

    Sunday 24 February 2013

RANGERS Football Club has apologised and spoken of its dismay after two fans were arrested amid controversy over sectarian chanting by its supporters during an away match against Berwick Rangers.

A number of offensive songs were heard from the section of Shielfield Park housing travelling supporters at the Irn-Bru Third Division match, which was broadcast live on ESPN.

Northumbria Police said there had been two arrests over sectarian chants and video footage was being reviewed. Officers said legislation covering sectarian chanting applied to travelling fans and was enactable outside Scotland.

Rangers issued an apology while the match was still ongoing after ESPN microphones picked up the offensive chants. A Rangers spokesman said: “The club is disappointed by certain outbursts of inappropriate singing by a section of the support at Berwick.

“Our fans have been excellent this season both home and away and we do not want to see this tarnished.”

Rangers boss Ally McCoist said after the 3-1 success: “I didn’t know anything about it until I came in after the game.

“Our supporters have been nothing short of sensational home and away this season. If they were a little bit out of order today, I apologise.”

He added: “I think we’ve all come a long way in recent years – We have to continue the good work that’s been done before.”

ESPN presenter Ray Stubbs said the broadcaster was contacting the police over the issue.

Rangers TV presenter Andrew Dickson also tweeted during the game, urging fans to “grow up”.

He then replied to other Twitter users: “If those who think what was sung in the first half is acceptable, they should look at 99% of the users on Twitter who disagree with them.”

Superintendent Tim Smith, of Northumbria Police, confirmed that they had made arrests and were reviewing footage of the match.

He said: “We identified that some chanting had taken place, we’ve taken video evidence of that to do follow-up inquiries and, in addition to that, two people have been arrested for that offence today.”

Smith said video footage would be passed to the Focus (Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland) team from Strathclyde Police.

However, the force also praised the majority of fans at the game, who it said were “by and large” good-natured.

  21. Morning all.

    Burnley78,

I agree with every word. Simply supporting Celtic doesn’t seem to be enough for some people. Poor them. They miss so much, imo. Let the other lot obsess with matters extraneous to football. Mr Stein and Sir Robert Kelly set the standard, again imo. Our manager has asked them to desist too.

Let’s hope we win and handsomely this afternoon.
