Trashing a historic football club in two easy steps

605

I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year.  They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.

With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club.  Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.

If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top.  Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion.  Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.

Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision.  ‘Mad’ is another word you could use.  Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one.  John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions.  Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.

Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

Celtic, the pope, uvf, pedos, police, tartan army, Catholic Church…any chance of a song in support of the team? No wonder we get bad press

I think this says it all really…

wee nevin and mcclean never heard a thing as they were getting their ears syringed. Too many briefings from Jabba has clogged up their ear canals.

My point is its a bad law, it is obscure, no one knows when they are breaking the law.

This law is confusing, that makes it bad law. In my opinion.

You are right. It would seem that you can be done for singing offensive songs in another country if you are “habitually resident in Scotland”.

So I am ok given that I do not get a vote in any referendum?

When we meet up at Wembley in CL final I will take the blame for any slightly offensive song you may sing.

    Farcical law.

    Hail Hail.

  5. Corkcelt: Thought it would be him. Actually think he is a bluenose myself. Remember his snide jibe at TET, lower than low. The guy has a lot of traits not often found in CQN Bloggers or Celtic supporters in general for that matter.

  7. No problem at all Rieperman, p.s. re Donegal football its hard to win an All Ireland but even harder to retain it. Slagging aside I can’t see Donegal doing it again this year, not so sure about Cork either. Don’t tell WITS but I actually fancy the Dubs to do it.

Don’t you even think about not posting, and don’t pay heed to anyone, you post from your heart.

I thought I knew the site rules, I have always stuck to the site rules, I wouldn’t be posting otherwise, but I was a tad taken aback when the song lyrics were deleted, it was a new one for me.

I have been surprised at some of the keyboard hardmen tonight, telling some posters that it’s Paul’s site, Paul’s rules, and so you better respect them, a few have crawled out of the woodwork to have a go…thing is, it’s a new rule that has never been intimated to anyone, so how were you, or anyone else to know.

When it comes down to the wire we are Celtic.

It’s our club and we should decide who sings what.

We will be here long after those in the boardroom have gone.

  12. Corkcelt,

Nobody could see us doing it this year either, but I take your point and it’s a good one. That said, I’d rather see your Bhoys do it than the Dubs if it’s not us.

But it will be us. :)

Can CQN really complain about the sectarian bile spouted by sevco supporters when it allows and encourages sectarian bile by kojo and his other nome de plumes to be posted and remain on here? On a very frequent basis

I’ll let the usual apologists explain this.

That has been proved on many occasions; we are the constant and the next few months are vital for us. I hope the board and the fans sort out any differences, and there is some fresh thinking, because we need a united front and bums on seats in the SPL. Europe takes care of itself.

  19. Thanks TET, must admit I considered quitting, I had close relatives involved in the struggle during that period. A very close friend of mine who is the son of one of the most prominent members of that Brigade travels to Glasgow to cheer on the Hoops. Its hard when a song celebrating his fathers heroics of over ninty years ago is banned from a Celtic site. Anyhow as Rieperman suggested I have decided to let it go for the moment. We will see how things unfold. Anyhow thats it from me for the night. Good Night & God Bless All.

I agree with a lot on here why should we pander to oppression of our heritage just because others have been taught to fear & hate everything about us ? It’s their problem not ours we will continue to sing our songs and express our views through them as we have done for generations – it’s one of the great things about our club and why we are ‘ more than a club’

However we must also respect the wishes of our host who without we wouldn’t be here discussing our views and listening to others views every night.
