Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Dena, the only buses that go from the bus stop, not the wee bus station next to Govan underground, are all McGill’s.

The visiting at the hospital is 2pm to 8pm but the hospital prefers no visitors for patients for meal time, 5pm to 6pm.

There have been issues with grid locked traffic in and around the hospital between about half four and six, but hopefully, that situation has been resolved.

The First Bus 77 can take between 30 to 45 minutes to get to the hospital depending on traffic in Partick and how busy the Clyde Tunnel is.

Add in our now cowed obedience and we really are uncle tims now aren’t we?

  5. Cowdenbeath being physical with the young Bhoys.

    Young Crossan makes it 2-1.

    Beauty triumphs over the beast.

  6. Thompson hit a great shot of the bar, Miller forced a save from the rebound and Crossan knocks the rebound home….

  10. Didier Agathe

I recall when we signed him from Hibs the usual info came out bout Didier, age, date of birth, place of birth etc,

Didier was born inthe Reunion islands in the indian ocean.

This stuck with me for some reason, a couple ofyears later I was talking to a young youth leader from South Lanarkshire. The lad was under pressure as he had just.found out the french exchange was really from a french speaking island in the indian ocean, not from france.I asked him if he thought bout contacting Celtic/didier.

Didier not only responded, taking themalll out to eat, match tickets, toursetc.turns out they were neighbours and knew of most of them

    One successful visit

    Hail hail Didier

A wee tale about the trophy .

I bought and paid for it out of my own pocket.

I didn’t have the brass neck to claim it.

So it was left in Styx ,never to be seen again.

  13. JamesF, VFR – the ‘what-about’ argument isn’t strong. I would suggest that yes, if someone felt strongly about any of those causes they should have the courage of their convictions and act.

The problem with the position taken by those who are sympathetic to Palestine saying the price of protest is too high for Celtic and the benefit too small to Palestine, is that we could all say the same about every March and protest we ever take part in. To surrender where when and how we protest is to conform to the dominant narrative.

I disagree that it will have no benefit for Palestine. If Celtic are punished (I have my doubts that they will) it will offer an opportunity for public discussion about why Palestinian flags are banned, why Israeli participation is allowed in UEFA comps, it will reach Palestinian activists around the world.

I could go on but whether there is any point I don’t know.

  14. VFR800A8

You obviously didn’t read my post properly then.

I never said anything about agreeing with flying any flag, all I said and I will say it again for you.

” The only harm that will befall the club will be financial ” the reputational stuff is bollix imo, unless you can tell me anyone that matters that will be damaged by someone flying a flag, or anyone that doesn’t matter for that fact.

FINANCIAL Damage, you obviously don’t agree with that then.

Dena, a taxi might be your best bet.

I attend that hospital four times a year and use public transport to get there so its the worst case scenario with the travelling time to get there.

  16. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

Interesting one there for budding referees….

Cowdenbeath player was being subbed and gestured (GIRUY) to the Celtic crowd and sat down on bench. Referee then went over and ordered him off for the gesture and the substitute had to leave the pitch meaning Cowdenbeath down to 10 players, as quite rightly, the substitution had not been completed when the ordering off took place.

U20s 2-1 up with 7 mins to go and especially like the look of the two young guns up front Jack Aitchison and PJ Crossan, both on the scoresheet

  17. Bad enough a James Forrest revival,but now BSR a Hun. :)

Only a good win tomorrow will get the World back on its axis.
