Unpredictable Celtic lineup

109

Hibernian were on a run of three consecutive wins when they lost 4-1 to Celtic in Glasgow on 6 December.  Their seven league games since have produced a win at Livingston, two draws and four defeats.  Their last two home games were brutal 0-3 hammerings by St Mirren and Newco.

With Livingston and Ross County both circling the drain Hibs form might not be a relegation worry, but they are only two points ahead of a rejuvenated St Johnstone, who sit 10th.

That game at Celtic Park in December was refreshing inasmuch as the visitors at least tried to play football in the Celtic half.  Whether they will be so bold tonight while in such a poor run of form is doubtful.  Manager Nick Montgomery arrived in September with a strong reputation earned in Australia.  He can afford to lose to Celtic, but there is a limit on how many absolute batterings you can take in front of your own fans before the natives grow restless.

The Celtic line-up is often predictable, but I have no idea how Brendan Rodgers will go tonight.  I have been an advocate of Maik Nawrocki’s but he put in a poor second half against Aberdeen on Saturday before being replaced by Stephen Welsh.  Either one could start alongside Liam Scales.

Alexandro Bernabei also made way for Tony Ralston at left back.  My gut tells me Tony will get the nod from the start tonight.

We now have genuine options on the wing.  Nicolas Kuhn began and ended the move that led to Celtic’s goal on Saturday and will surely get his chance from the start, with Liel Abada dropping to the bench.  The welcome return of Daizen Maeda gives the manager a further option, for either wing.  I expect we will see Luis Palma start on the left, Nicolas on the right, with Daizen and Liel making an appearance at some point.

Kyogo was a spectator until Adam Idah came on at Aberdeen.  Thereafter our Japanese talisman was able to contribute significantly more.  There is no way Brendan will start with Adam on the field but neither of us will be surprised if that changes after the hour mark.

  1. always fascinated me this obsession with indoor pitches.

    as per mad mitch productions.

if i was ever good enough to be a professional i would want to train outdoors, all the time, everytime.

  2. Good luck to the bhoys tonight. I hope Welsh gets the place in the back four with Ralston at LB. I know it’s a lot of change, but it’s a solid defense. The rest will likely be the same as the starting line-up at the weekend. Daizen and the new bhoys will come on from the bench.

  3. Celtic’s Lennoxtown Training Centre, which opened in 2007, will continue to be the dedicated headquarters for our men’s first-team football operations, including the Celtic FC B team.

Further improvements are also currently being made at our Lennoxtown Training Centre, with first-team changing areas being fully refurbished and extended, the introduction of a new medical/treatment, sports science space and staff offices, and the extension and refurbishment of B Team areas.

    PLO songs in the jungle.

Are you sure it’s not Electric Light Orchestra ( ELO ) . Easy mistake. 🙂

Mr Blue Sky was fab at the time as was Don’t bring me down.

    ………………….

It usually came in a trio of songs best was at Ibrox from the Broomloan road end…it was late 80`s early 90`s….police were charging into fans at Fir Park and Love Street when it was being sung arresting dozens.

    It went like this…

“PL, PL, PLO, PLO, PLO, repeat…” ___ not Peter Lawwell lol

    then….

“Gaddafi`s in the RA, Gaddafi`s in the RA, ee aye adio, Gaddafi`s in the RA…”

    then…

“OOH AH UP THE RA, repeat repeat repeat…”

At that time the news was full of stuff about Gaddafi supplying weapons to the IRA but in truth Gaddafi was going to bring in a Libyan currency which would have seriously dented the banking scumbags…hence the later imperialist invasion of Libya which is now a slave market being used to fulfil the `Kalergi Plan`…invasion of all white Christian western countries.

Just saw your message on last thread.

Please do give Old Tim my best wishes.

Re tonight I have not got a ticket either but probably just going to go to main stand along with a few other Celtic folks. There seems to be plenty of tickets for the lower area there. Not the best but to be honest I have had more joy watching us from there than at the Celtic end this past 10 years lol. So maybe good luck. Hope you get a ticket for the Celtic end ok.

    We agree on something.

Aitken is one of the worst.

When you prefer Dallas to him as var then something is not good.

  7. From the beeb:

Manchester United want to focus on data and youth in their summer recruitment, United manager Erik ten Hag will have reduced influence over the club’s transfer strategy from this summer.

    Hmmmmmmm

  8. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

They should just have cut to the chase and said “ Eric ten Hag will not be manager from this summer” 😂😂

  9. Re LB problem tonight. Did BR not have a Blackadder cunning plan a few years ago and played CalMac at LB in Europe? I recall it backfired but I may be wrong.

He certainly did it against Sevco. Hope he’s not thinking of repeating that.

A discussion for another day, but it will be interesting to see how Dave Brailsford gets on at Man U.

He had tremendous success with Team Sky with the introduction of “marginal gains”, but that was in a sport that was still quite amateurish in a lot of respects despite being professional.

The fact that so many posters think that because Celtic had a bank balance of £70m on 30th June 2023, they must have £70m in the bank today, I find very touching in a “aw bless em” sort of vein.

    Such naivety

I know we were all upset when Brendan left, and rightly so, but the man is a good coach. A little luck here, a wee bounce there and we would have been up by a right few in the last two games. Remember back In TB’s tenure as manager. He had us playing some brilliant stuff but we kept drawing games. Players struggle at times and go through some periods of not playing to their potential, but keep the faith as someone once said and support our BHOYS. Yes the Huns are on a good run right now, but we are still top!!! I am no Hun interloper or board lover, or team basher, just a guy who loves his team, win lose or draw as the song says, and has always said. I get upset when we lose, my auld man used to not buy the papers for 3 days after a defeat as he knew they had moved on to the next game, but he never stopped believing.

The league will not be won or lost tonight no matter what the score. Win or lose, I’m still going to wake up A Celtic fan.

  16. ST Stives You mentioned about Celtic Upgrading Lennoxtown Training Centre,do you know if they are building a new indoor pitch ,also can I ask you about what Chris McKay after the AGM said regarding a lot stuff need to be done inside Celtic Park .

  17. Chance to clear at the top at least till next Wednesday.

Callum needs to show more in the way of leadership, and more forward passing.

We’ll create chances, need to take more of them.

    Celts to win
